“Alo Restaurant does stand for its reputation as 1 Michelin Star restautant. We had a ten couse meal last night and were very satisfied. We nearly missed it because its location is a bid hidden, tuck in an old building at the third floor with no significant sign nor billboard. But the food and service were excellent. You cannot go wrong with the Hokkaido Scallop, Shrimp Toast, La Canardierre Foie Gras and the East Coast Lobster.
Two of the staff, Marcus and another young smaller guy were excellent, providing really good service.“

“Fine Dining and interestng shops“

“The food was delicious and the menu has so many great choices. Lovely staff. We were there for lunch and we are looking forward to going back soon for breakfast or brunch.“

“Came here for Sunday brunch and really enjoyed the overall experience. First off, I love that they take reservations — always a plus for brunch. It also wasn’t overwhelmingly busy for a Sunday, which made for a much more relaxed meal. The space is super cute and the service was decent.

We tried a few things. The eggs Benedict on a croissant was good, but honestly the breakfast potatoes were the highlight for me — so good and probably my favourite thing on the plate. One small thing: the tiny little jars they give you for ketchup and mayo are ridiculously small. You basically have to dump the whole thing out to get anything 😂.

The burger was tasty, although slightly dry, and the fries were good.

The French toast was another standout. The blueberry sauce was honestly one of the best I’ve had — really delicious. I wasn’t a huge fan of the whipped cream on top and wish the French toast itself had been served warm, because I think that would’ve made it significantly better.

Overall, nothing was perfect, but it was a really enjoyable brunch with cute vibes, good food, and some definite standouts. I’d come back, especially for those potatoes and that blueberry sauce.“

“Chantecler is easily one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. The vibe is always great, the service is fantastic, and everyone is incredibly knowledgeable about both the food and wine. I love French food in general, and Chantecler does such a good job of keeping it interesting without making it feel overly fussy. They work with seasonal ingredients, which I really appreciate, and always seem to have unique French wines that you won’t find at the LCBO.

I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever had a bad dish here. Some favourites are the steak tartare, duck confit, and the eggplant au fromage, which was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. The peach pavlova was also to die for. Their flavour combinations are always so well balanced and thoughtful. It’s also very reasonably priced for the quality, especially compared with a lot of French restaurants that can get a little over the top. Always such a good experience.“

There was an error in my order, (understandable at 7 pm on a Friday) but the team went the extra mile to make it right. “The experience at BIFFs is unparalleled - this is a real dining experience, with mature and experienced staff - from the host, to the sommelier, to the wait staff - who anticipated our attendance of a show, offered some quick options for order, was quick on delivery, and clean up as we ate. LOVE eating here. In and out in under an hour, with half price oysters, wine and the prix fix - a GENEROUS amount of food.“

“This restaurant is outstanding, exceptional experience. Met the Manager named Brad, struck up a bond instantly, he was a host with flair, attention to detail, and ran a finely curated experience. The food was exceptionally good, be sure to try the grilled jerked chicken, coconut rice, mac pie, fritters, and of course... the Lickle Patties. Very tasty food, well presented and the hot pepper sauce is euphoric.“

“Amazing! Welcoming, quaint little establishment, with an open kitchen. Connor, our server is FANTASTIC! He was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. Every dish was excellent, perfect portions of escargot, cheese, foie gras, duck confit, fries with homemade mayo and the elk, YUMMY. Plus the desserts were spot on, a small perfect after meal bite. I'm highly recommending this place and will definitely be back. Also, BONUS, there is Green P, right behind them with plenty of spots. 💜“

The tasting portions were small but the mushroom toast alone made the trip worth it, so rich and earthy we ended up ordering a second round. Our server took real time explaining the menu and pacing the courses for us, which we appreciated since neither of us speaks much Spanish or French for the wine list. It's a cozy little spot, more of a house than a restaurant really, and exactly the kind of low key evening we look for after a full day of sightseeing.“

“It is a great hidden French beakary/restaurant. They have a small menu but their food, pastries and drinks selection is great and tasty. Prices are reasonable for being Toronto $$$. Staff is friendly and attentive, especially with kids. A drawback, the location is small and noisy, this is unfortunate because conversations, in case you plan starting long, get loud and unpleasant . In a nutshell, it is hidden gem for those looking to experience authentic everyday French cuisine.“

“Valeriia, I want to thank you for a perfect evening on May 2nd. You made it easy for me pre-event, in terms of your help with planning. You answered my questions as we went along and provided good advice. The event itself was a huge success. The staff were excellent in terms of knowing when to bring out food, when to pass it and when to place it on the buffet table. Staff kept the gluten free food separate which made it easy for guests to find it - you even placed the gluten free cards I had brought. Beverage service was professional and the wines Valeriia selected were enjoyed by all. I had one guest with some very specific dietary requirements and Chef made a small plate for her which was ready when she arrived which was very much appreciated. The guests commented on the quality of the food and staff. Several people said that they would now come back to Le Select for dinners. I would strongly recommend Le Select for events.“

“A very cosy uptown restaurant ! I have been several times over the years and it never disappoints. Was there again last night and have to say the veal scallopini was excellent. It was a tough choice as there are so many delicious things on the menu. The friendly and excellent service, food and ambiance was perfect. A big thank you to the staff for such an enjoyable evening. “I occasionally order the blackened branzino to go and through various delivery apps when I’m too lazy to cook at home. Avant Gout has some great picks especially when you’re not sure what you’re in the mood for. The branzino is cooked to perfection, nice sauce on the base, roasted potatoes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Interior of the restaurant is a little out dated however it doesn’t take away from the good food they serve.

I’ll continue joining them, as it’s consistent and healthy compared to other options out there. Little on the pricy side.“

Update* The service here is so friendly and welcoming still and food is still so delicious. Every visit is worth the commute. Do wish there were more parking spaces in the area but overall one of my most favourite french restaurants.“

“Had a latte, my friend had a chocolat viennois (the best hot chocolate!) and we shared a gateaux basque. Each item was très délicieux, and the gateaux had an impeccable texture. Pretty place to eat, friendly staff and efficient service.“

I think it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, possibly because of limited advertising or its older-style design. But the quality is exceptional. Steak was perfectly cooked and juicy. Wings hit the spot and the calamari friti hits without heavy oil.

“We visited the Au Pain Dore in Front Street near St Laurence Market. A real treat for our breakfast. Sadly only discovered on our last morning. Such a lovely atmosphere in this Cafe with French music playing. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. There is a long history of really fresh bakery items and you taste it. We had a croissant with cheese and ham as well as sourdough bread with ham and cheese all accompanied with an Americano coffee. The food was so delicious and the coffee strong.
There is a good choice of different food available from pastries, muffins, yoghurt with granola and bread with different fillings as well as croissants, which are fresh and fluffy with a nice crunch to it.
Definitely recommend this cafe. Would love to come back.“
