“Was looking for a brunch place and found Gramma’s Oven Bakery. Walked in and got a whiff of the breads and the coffee. The owner gave us briefing of what they bake. 11 different types of breads and various cold sandwiches.

We ordered coffee, croissant and sourdough sandwich butter and jam. But if you can see the image below we inhaled our breakfast unfortunately there was no time to take the pic. Thank you.“

“Greatest Dannish pastry I have ever tried, even better than Tehran, that's the only statement I can make about them.

Obviously this is one of the oldest Persian confectionaries in GTA, and the smell and taste of Dannish pastries are unique, and it remined me of my old days when I was a kid and pastries were tasting like this.

Highly recommended, just one thing, be specific and simple with the owner about what you want, he might got confused a bit and pass you different pastries.

They have 4 various Dannish pasries, all of them are great and hits the spot with hot tea.

“We stumbled on this Chinese bakery which served the best egg tarts and they made them fresh as you could smell them wafting throughout the area. Although as a personal preference I liked my crust to be like the Portuguese egg tarts, the contents had the same delicate creamy custard texture which reminded me of my days in Hong Kong. Overall, it was delicious. At times they do run out so get them while it's hot.“

“Had our wedding recently. We received so many compliments for our wedding cake made by dearDeer. So many guests told us the wedding cake was unexpectedly delicious and fluffy, and some engaged couples asked us which bakery it was from. My husband and I actually didn't get a chance to eat the cake because we were too busy moving around! We needed to try for ourselves so we ordered a tasting box afterwards. Our wedding cake consisted of three tiers, each with a different flavour: Black sesame, matcha, honey yuzu. We included these flavours plus mocha in our tasting box. I personally like matcha the best.

The price for the wedding cake might have been a little expensive, but it was well worth it. Let alone the fact that everyone at the wedding was pleasantly surprised by its taste, the handcrafted figures accompanying the cake were so heartily made, cute, and very similar to the pictures I provided.

“Richmond Hill Deli - who knew what treasures lay within? While in the neighbourhood one Saturday morning, my curiosity was piqued by the outdoor pictures of culinary delights, outlined in red, declaring: "Healthy and Tasty", "Homemade with Love". Once inside, I was greeted with a panorama of products from Eastern Europe and Central Asia - including my favourites:

• Plov (Uzbek-style rice pilaf),
• Samsa (Uzbek samosas with beef/lamb filling),
• Khachapuri (Georgian cheese-filled "pizza"),
• Pelmeni (Russian meat dumplings of various fillings - I like the turkey and lamb pelmeni),
• Lülə Kebabs (minced meat kebabs from South Kavkaz),
• Kefir/Ryazhenka (similar to yougurts),
• various Mineral Waters,
... and the list goes on.

I had the good fortune to meet the owner, Alik, who welcomed me to his store as if to his own table. The staff at the hot food counter were warm and hospitable. To experience the world of Eastern European and Central Asian delicacies, this is the place to come to.

The only thing missing was my most favourite item of all - Chebureki (deep-fried turnovers of Crimean Tatar origin), ideally the lamb-filled variety, but the spinach/cheese ones are okay too. If Richmond Hill Deli could stock these, my joy would be complete.

As the can of Uzbek Plov said on its label: "Вкусно - нет слов" ("Tasty - no words".)

“It started with the Youth League, and every time I came to Toronto, I would book a bunch of them with the boss and take them back to the village. Never disappointed. The latest Oubao I tried is the one with the most fillings I have ever tasted. Unlike those made in some stores, the fillings are as big as egg yolks. It is just a cake.

A colleague and I were in desperate search for a last minute cake and through some sort of divine intervention, we found Egidio. As unconventional as it was, he was so supportive in helping us. If you are looking for the best desserts and service, look no further.“
