I’ve been going to Cakes by Robert for well over 10 years, ever since moving back to Thornhill, and it has become one of those local businesses that I genuinely appreciate having in the community. Over the years, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to try their cakes and baked goods, and the thing that keeps bringing me back is simple: they consistently deliver tasty, reliable cakes without charging the heavy prices you often see at larger or more elaborate bakeries.

There is something refreshing about a bakery that doesn’t seem interested in becoming a huge operation or turning every purchase into a luxury experience. Cakes by Robert has always had the feel of a small, family-run, mom-and-pop business, and that is part of what makes it special. It feels like a neighbourhood bakery rather than a chain or a large commercial operation.

The biggest compliment I can give them is consistency. When you’re ordering a cake for a birthday, celebration, family gathering, or any other occasion, you want to know that what you’re getting is going to be good. Cakes by Robert has delivered that consistency for me over many years. The cakes are tasty, enjoyable, and dependable, without needing to be overly complicated or extravagant.

I also appreciate the value. There are plenty of places where you can spend a significant amount of money on a cake simply because of the name attached to the box, the presentation, or the overhead involved in running a large, trendy bakery. Cakes by Robert has managed to keep things much more down-to-earth. You get a good-quality cake at a reasonable price, which is exactly what I want from a neighbourhood bakery.

After more than a decade of going there, I think that says more than any single visit ever could. Businesses don’t become part of your routine for that long unless they consistently provide something worthwhile. Cakes by Robert has done that for me.

I also hope they remain the kind of business they are now. There is value in having small, independent businesses that serve their local communities without trying to become something bigger than they need to be. The mom-and-pop character of Cakes by Robert is part of its charm, and it’s exactly the kind of local business I’m happy to support.

In an era when so many independent businesses struggle to compete with large chains and high operating costs, I think it’s important to support the places that have been serving their communities for years. Our friends and family said it was hands down the best cake they’ve ever had! And to top it all off - it was absolutely STUNNING!!!!!!! “***I DO NOT RECOMMEND *** The customer service at the head office is awful. They messed up my online order and didn’t pass on the message to the store on time for a specific date cake order for my kids birthday. I ordered cakes for Oct 21 to be picked up. I went to the bakery and was told that they don’t have the cakes. I called and emailed the head office and they said they are small business and mistakes happen. That was the lamest excuse! Mistakes happen but they didn’t even try to fix the issue. Just saying “we are sorry, it happened, we are small business and mistakes happen” is not the right reply at all. If a communication didn’t happen between head office and the store, that is not customers fault. Running around, trying to find alternative solution, and buying another flavored cake was the worst experience celebrating my kids special day. I wasted my time, energy and money on finding cakes, I had to go back to the bakery on the same day at 9pm. The fact that they just wanted me to forget and let the problem go by really frustrated me. They said they tried to make it work, but I don’t think they even tried and think of customers perspective. I needed those 2 cakes on that day, and I placed the order 3 weeks in advance for a reason. I will most likely not order from them again and will pass my awful customer experience to my friends and family. Very irresponsible and unreasonable. Simply didn’t care. They ignored all my emails.“

Service when picking it up was not particularly good. I stood under a sign that clearly said PICK UP ONLINE ORDERS HERE
I stood there and servers just would look and serve someone else. FINALLY someone said…are you waiting for something? Ummm yes and I pointed to their sign. She said OH! “As I was looking for Korean Croquette last 2 weeks. I could not find anywhere from Mississauga. Finally, there is a bakery in PAT North of Toronto and selling old Korean Croquette style to smell in home town South Korea. Mill Bakery is amazing tasty Croquette. I bought 10 of fresh ones and other bread which recommended by staffs. Don’t waste time to find good Korean bakery just like to me. Just go Mill and get good tasty bread and Croquette and made your day big day. Anyhow I visited in July 25th 2026.“

They care a lot about their customers being happy and from the bread that they personally make fresh with their own hands to the smallest thing in this shop, it is fresh and of excellent quality so that they can keep their customers happy which is very important and isn't rarely seen in other places. “Great food and portion size. Good value for money. Great service from Julianna. We ordered french toast, egg Benedict with salmon, sandwich with avocado, tomato and fried egg chalas, pancakes, fresh orange juice and hot chocolate. Orange juice was freshly squeezed, hot chocolate was delicious and sweet and thick, pancakes were fluffy, french toast was fried to perfection and complimented well with the syrup and the salmon was nice and fresh and egg chalas was full of flavor!! “I've eaten a lot of Koobideh in the GTA and this is definitely one of the best, especially at this $15 price point, which is one of, if not the least expensive. The only other comparable spot is Little House of Kebabs, which at $16.50 isn't as good of a deal (2 kebabs, only 1 tomato, rice, tahdig and thats it).
Here's what you get at Pars: 2 kebabs over lots of rice, butter, hot pepper, onions, 2 grilled tomatoes, lemon slice AND one of the best tahdig i've had, crunchy but not breaking any teeth.
This place ticks all the boxes for me: made to order in 10 mins, plenty of rice, and tahdig, which is not that common but separates the better establishments from the mediocre.“
