“Happy hour menus have been making a comeback with the weakening economy. Planta’s menu is one of the most extensive and offers great value to boot. While beer and wine ring in at $6 and $9, respectively, it’s the $10 cocktails that wet my whistle. You can’t go wrong with the lych please, a gin cocktail lightly sweetened with lychee, lemon, and pineapple with a hibiscus sugar rim that delights.
Planta also provides a huge food offering that doesn’t skimp on portions. With the lettuce wraps ($12) being half off their regular menu price ($23), I expected a shrunken helping the equivalent to two or three wraps. So, when the full plate arrived with enough of the gochujang covered crispy fried tofu and roasted Brussels sprouts to make seven wraps we were flabbergasted. Oh no, we ordered way too much food!
The menu offers no description with the chick’n fried mushrooms ($7) but they turn out to be lightly battered oyster mushrooms that’s dusted with salt and pepper served with a thinned sweet chili sauce. They’re dangerously addictive and so tasty that I could swap these for a chicken nugget any day.
In a similar vein, the crust of the cauliflower wings ($8) was so crispy despite not being overly battered. Drizzles of unagi sauce and sweet chili mayo covered the vegetables giving each bite a burst of flavour.
For a lighter nibble, the summer rolls ($6) are an option. It’s just filled with a lot of carrot and rice noodles and needed more of the other ingredients (papaya, tofu, and herbs) to stand out.
The crispy rice ($9) would work better left intact, so the starch doesn’t become cold and dry. At least they put plenty of the spicy ahi watermelon and guacamole on top to balance out the tasteless rice ball.
I preferred the spicy crab hand roll ($5 each), which was stuffed to the gills with shredded hearts of palm tossed with ponzu and spicy mayo. It’s more of a taco than handroll so it isn’t the easiest to eat but does mean there’s little rice and tons of filling.
The sole dish that threw us both off was the spinach and artichoke dip ($11). How can you mess up a creamy dip? By adding so much coconut oil into the recipe that coconut was all we could taste. It felt like I was eating a savoury coconut cream pie with chunks of vegetables. Its only saving grace was they don’t skimp on the tortilla chips… too bad we didn’t need more than a few each.“

“Hawker on Augusta Avenue was a standout Summerlicious experience. I’ve never eaten at a vegetarian restaurant like this or experienced a culinary chef’s vision so clearly. Executive Chef Leah Steduto’s creativity and intention come through in every dish, making the food thoughtful, memorable, and truly transformative.
Executive Chef Leah Steduto is known for her creative naturalistic approach to plant-based cuisine, earning Hawker local acclaim for beautifully composed dishes that redefine vegetarian fine dining.“

“If you are looking for incredible tasting food, quality ingredients, environmental sustainability, a trendy and tranquil café vibe, detailed dietary accommodations, and complete transparency, this is your spot. You can tell that Chef Ishan and his team truly care about the food and experience they are offering to their guests and go out of their way to offer suggestions, provide any information you need and offer delicious bonuses throughout your meal. There is a fantastic range of options on their menu making it an excellent spot to stop for a specialty drink and appetizer, breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert or cocktail hour. With every bite you can taste the quality of what you are eating. I ate there with my 3 and 6 year old recently and they loved it just as much as I did. I highly recommend everyone visits this unique spot and appreciates their ethos for themselves! If I lived in Toronto I would definitely be a regular customer.“

“Delicious vegan Caribbean food in the heart of Kensington Market. Veggie D'light hits the spot for lunch on a weekend. I had their meal with jerk saitan, veggies and basmati/quinoa. I asked about the soup of the day and was promptly offered a taste by the friendly chef. Had the medium soup as well--a delicious rich soup with yams and coconut milk. Now I have a new favorite lunch spot.“

“I had the most incredible mushroom udon noodles they were so yummy I definitely recommend! I also ordered the new Brussel sprouts on the menu and I don’t usually like Brussel sprouts but these were incredible! The portions were great! And honestly I find every time I go to fresh I always like everything on their menu. They are very trustworthy and authentically vegan. The service is incredible, they never have you waiting and they are extremely kind. The atmosphere makes you feel safe and is very beautiful and homey. Overall I really recommend you go to fresh and also try their new feature menu. ❤️🫶⭐️“

“Our dining experience was excellent and we enjoyed every single bite of the dishes We had the tasting menu and upgraded with A3 wagyu and added a portion of duck on top of it. The food at Alo is exceptional, especially the dessert. We particularly loved the Ontario apple dessert and the trio. We celebrated a birthday at Alo and was given a small chocolate mousse cake on the house. It was very sweet and we really appreciated it. Overall it was a fabulous dining experience and we look forward to coming for another special occasion.“

“The food was incredible. We ordered this while at our hotel waiting for our flight. We're from a smaller town where these options aren't available to us, so we always appreciate seeing fully vegan restaurants and options. We loved what we ordered. Tasted great and was very timely!“

“We stopped at Stefano’s for dinner and started with the Brie. It was excellent, but sadly it was also the highlight of the meal. The New School Salmon was interesting and definitely fish-ish but the texture was quite dry and I think a creamy sauce would have helped. The muffuletta was a big letdown. It didn’t have a good strong olive relish, it was cut with too many other veggies like celery. The tiramisu was good. Updated from previous review on 2025-12-20“

“Tasty comfort food with good portions, very polite staff and quick service. We tried the chicken and waffles and the seitan steak. Will definitely visit again. Taking a star off as one of the steaks was in a bit overdone and was a bit tough.“

“First visit at the Bloor West location, received good information addressing my dietary concerns. Ordered the 7-veg soup and wedges. Outdoor Cafe is nice for seasonal. Kids seem to be wild about the acai bowls. It is VERY RARE to find no canola plant based options in Toronto these days - this place is a Gem 💎“

“What a fantastic restaurant. Atmosphere and service were both on point. Dishes & cutlery changed before every new dish, water always filled, and all the items were described in wonderful detail. They even gave us an extra shrimp for the shrimp cocktail! For the stripped bass dish, they also gave us 2 separate portions of fish, which I noticed wasn’t how they served the dish to other patrons. I’m not sure if this was because they noticed we were sharing all the dishes, but it’s a really nice touch that’s easy to miss if that was the case. This is how you make an extraordinary experience. Grey Gardens does it almost on the level of Alo.
The menu is small but all the dishes are very creative and offer good variety. It’s underrated but the bread here is delicious. The red tail grain they use to make their bread is really delicious and the bread comes out so soft in the center but crispy and chewy on the outside.
Another highlight was the maitake dish. The barely they use at the bottom resembles a chewier risotto and the mushroom itself comes out so smokey. Not sure if this was from the cooking or from the addition of the black garlic in the sauce.
Striped bass was also cooked exceptionally well. I’ve never had fish skin that wasn’t battered and fried come out so crispy like I had here before. I just wished there was more of it. The hand torn lamb noodle dish was also very flavourful and the lamb essentially fell apart within the dish.“
“First of all I will say that I am not a vegan but inspire to be and these cheesecakes are to die for, like honestly! I have tried all of the flavours and I personally like the Espresso Choc. Chip and Raspberry. I highly recommend this company for gluten free, soy free, dairy free and refined sugar free tasty desserts.“
