“Very kind and accommodating for my Gluten free needs. Even brought me my own GF soy sauce pot. Beautiful presentation of food and very good food and fresh fish. For GF I did the special on the board of K-skewers chicken no sauce, a veggie roll that they left one thing off that wasn't GF, and a Hawaiian roll. Hubby got a couple other rolls that were great. The wasabi has a pretty good kick to it LOL the ginger is really good.“

“This to me and my partner in life who just happened to live in Japan, is by far the most authentic tasting food ever. I know it's hard to do but slowly taste the food with your mouth, smell it before you eat it. Everything is so fresh and well prepared. This place reminds me of a show I watched, Midnight Diner. I almost forgot, they need to raise their prices, sooooo affordable.“

“As a frequent visitor to Japan, I long for the authentic intersection between food, atmosphere and service. But mostly food.
Yuzu brings a good majority of this to the table. I found myself flashing back to an izakaya in Morioka (minus the tabaco filled air). Atmosphere is a check.
I started with the karrage, which came out perfect. Using the Japanese double-fry method, it's more of a steam than a fry. This leaves you with a thin but crispy outside and very juicy, not dry chicken, with very little grease. The aoili sauce really added to the overall flavor.
The sashito peppers weren't overly seasoned nor overly spicy, but rather had a good umami flavor.
The kimchi cheese spring rolls were the only non-Japanese item I ordered. They were unique and very flakey, but the flavors and textures did not mix too well.
I also ordered the cold soba. This is one of the rare time I enjoyed a cold soba. The flavor wasn't overpowering and the texture had a somewhat firm but melt apart texture.
Finally, they have a rotating donburi and this visit I scored as they had my favorite Japanese dish - the Katsudon. This was one of the best Katsudonburi I have had in the US. The seasoning had the perfect umami balance with sweetness. The Katsu was crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle, and most importantly the egg was just set and a little runny (I prefer more runny but in the US this is a good compromise to the usual scrambled egg you get on top)
Overall fantastic food and atmosphere. The staff were friendly, quick, and attentive.
Finally, we arrived 30 mins before they opened on a Saturday night, and it was practically empty when we entered and still had tables available when we were leaving.
Highly recommend!“

“First time trying & don't know what took me so long. I'm a big fan of Katsu Chicken but rarely order it especially if done with chicken breast. It's rare to find chicken breast not overly dry so avoid ordering it. They told me they use thigh meat for all their dishes so went with it. This was wonderful, cooked to perfection, & a huge amount of food. I will be eating on it for two days. The place was super clean & put the food out quickly. I can't wait to try some of their other dishes.“

“If you’re in the area and love Japanese food, this food truck is an absolute gem you shouldn’t miss. I’ve been a regular customer for quite some time, and it has never disappointed me. The quality of the food is consistently excellent—every bite feels fresh and flavorful. Their California rolls are perfectly balanced with creamy avocado, crisp cucumber, and fresh crab. The spring rolls are light, crisp, and make a great starter before diving into their sushi selection.
The sushi itself is where this truck truly shines. The fresh salmon practically melts in your mouth, and their spicy tuna rolls pack just the right amount of heat without overwhelming the flavor of the fish. You can tell the ingredients are carefully chosen and handled with pride, which makes a huge difference.
One thing to note is that the staff’s English is limited, so placing an order might require a bit of pointing or patience. But honestly, that small language barrier is part of the charm—it’s a reminder that this food comes straight from people who know their craft and pour authenticity into every dish.
For anyone who enjoys good Japanese food at great value, this food truck is a local must-visit. It’s earned my loyalty, and I’m sure it’ll win you over too.“

“I’m not kidding when I say, my partner and I can not stop talking about how much we love this place. It’s ruined all other sushi restaurants for us because it’s just not like Shoten. Even their other location isn’t quite as special as this little place! Slight changes have been made over the years but we will always haunt this place as long as we are around.“

“Perfect sushi! Fresh fish and all rolls were tasty.
Special japanese seats in addition to the tables and bar.
If you ordering Nigiri and you don't like Wassabi remember to ask them not to spread Wassabi between the rice and the fish.“

“On March 6, 2021 we ordered catering services from Zen teriyaki and Beaverton. The quality of service and food was amazing and the price point was spot on as well. We ordered their standard catering package and added on salad and 20 Eggrolls total cost before tipping was about $170.00. This was enough good for about 16 people. We only had 12 people, we ate the rest the next day as leftovers. I will use them in the future and I would highly recommend them to anybody who is looking for high-quality food with great service.“

“It's essentially what you'd expect from a casual teriyaki restaurant. Don't come here if you want the highest quality authentic Asian food, but if you want something pretty fast and affordable while still being tasty and filling, this is a solid place with options. The interior is clean and comfortable, but it's also a good place for takeout. I like their beef bulgogi a decent amount, especially for the price.“

“Great (mostly) authentic Japanese bakery goods. Does cater somewhat to American/ethnic tastes for some products without impacting the authentic items and everything tastes great. Their anpan and melonpan are perfect representations of tradition, while the edamame curry donuts are great twists for vegans.“

“I stopped by on the very day they reopened after the renovation, and it was absolutely worth it. We ordered the tonkatsu set and the ginger pork set, and both were outstanding.
This place is nothing like the “Japanese-style” restaurants you often find in the U.S.—the flavors, presentation, and attention to detail all reflect genuine Japanese cooking.
Honestly, it’s surprising to find this level of authenticity at around $20. A truly great value and a spot I’m excited to come back to.“

“Very impressed. Ordered a fresh hand roll with yellowtail and avocado — fish was clean and fresh, rice properly seasoned, and the texture balance was excellent. The ginger and soy were well portioned, and the overall presentation was simple and honest.
It’s not flashy — it’s focused on quality. If you appreciate fresh fish and straightforward execution, this is a great stop“

Thank you
Awesome cook
Awesome owner and son
(The lady with the glasses that is there often on the computer with dark hair is interesting. She has a foul energy when women come to sit and eat when their skin doesn’t match hers… someone else I know said they noticed her side eyeing them also. I thought it was just me..)
Her attitude does not exceed the establishment. I just ignore her dry demeanor.“

“Love their $8 chicken teriyaki lunch special. $8.32 if paying with a card. Can't beat this price, and it keeps me full all day. I also love that that they have thick teriyaki sauce. So many places water theirs down, this place doesn't! They have all their sauces in squirt bottles on the counter, so you can squirt as much on as you like for free.“

“The sushi has been alright. The two times I've visited were off-hours, and both times I had service issues (awkward interactions, slow service, having meals served 5 minutes apart despite both being raw) that irk me given the combination of price tag and the restaurant not even being busy with plenty of staff around. Makes me think I should avoid going when it's busier.“

“Nice place with a wide variety of Japanese dishes. I stuck with traditional Nigiri and enjoyed it. The rice was well packed and didn't break when dipped. The pieces were well sized for one bite. Each of the pieces I had (Hamachi, Sake, Saba, Maduro, and Unagi) were beautiful and tender. Next time I plan to have a spider roll along with one of the wide variety of other rolls they offer. The house variety green tea was very gentle and didn't overwhelm the nigiri.“
