“Anyone can seemingly make sushi seem better by making it more complex, but the real test is whether they can take the simple and make it excellent. Sushi-Ki-ichi does just that. They stick to the simple offerings, leading to an experience that feels less Americanized than other Japanese restaurants. That's not to say I don't love some level of creativity, but you don't need it here. That's because the family that owns Sushi Ki-ichi wants to create an authentic meal - a notion that was confirmed for sure when we had a conversation with the owner. In fact, they take quality to the next level with their equipment and efforts they take to make sure that what they serve is the highest quality, including specific freezers for the fish. We didn't try Sushi Ki-ichi for the first couple of years because we figured that the previous restaurant, a Chinese buffet that had gone downhill and fallen off the cliff, had rebranded and reopened as something new. Now I feel that for those first couple of years, we missed out. This has quickly become my favorite place in Portland. I look forward to any trips I take across town from Vancouver to Tigard, and make a point to stop in and grab a bite.“

“I've always had decent food here at Bannings. This morning I ordered Pumpkin pancakes.....what a disappointment. The pumpkin batter needed salt added to it and it also could have used a bit more sugar in the batter. The syrup was not real maple syrup but table top ad says, "warm maple syrup," so I expected real maple syrup. It also says, "whipped butter." I asked the waiter about the maple syrup and he told me it was "artificial" maple and argued the fact that the restaurant never said "real" maple syrup. Maybe the butter is whipped margarine...who knows what liberties are taken in menu descriptions. I'm a "real" maple syrup customer.“

“The iconic jbcs I somehow lost its mojo. There's been a high turnover of staff and I think that's caused some serious issues. Service lately has been lackluster and the food has taken a downturn too. It saddens me to see this happen.

“This is my second time coming to Mugen Noodle Bar and my experience hasn’t changed. Absolutely LOVE the theme of a ramen bar, the owner is incredibly nice and helpful, plus they just introduced sushi to their menu! (Saturdays only from what I believe.) My BF and I got the curry and shoyu ramen.

“I absolutely LOVE Cascadia Restaurant & Bar! It's a must if you're looking for good food, fantastic service, and a warm and friendly atmosphere. We started with drinks. It was difficult to decide because they have a really nice cocktail menu (along with great selections of beers and wines). We went with a Peach Fizz and a Kentucky Honeysuckle. Both were delicious! We got mozzarella sticks for our appetizer which did not disappoint! For our main meals, I got cheese pizza and he got the mushroom ravioli. The pizza was soooo good, crispy crust and the perfect ratio of cheese to sauce. I tried some of the ravioli too and was impressed - creamy sauce and super flavorful! For dessert we got chocolate fondue... and let me tell you, I was in heaven! It tasted like brownie batter and I couldn't get enough. All of our food was fresh and came out quickly. Overall, such a lovely experience. You can tell the staff are upbeat and that they care! I love that there are several vegetarian options on the menu! I left full and happy. “The people were great. I'd have to say the pizza was in the top 2 of my choices. The price is more than fair and I like that they have the largest and best choice of toppings. They have more toppings than any other pizza places. My other choice has less choices but their toppings are larger sized. Still I do like MOD better. They have salads and other things too.
