The food at Umi was outstanding—fresh, beautifully presented, and paced just right—but Yael is what made the experience feel special. While I like adding different flavors to enhance foods, I wanted a Cubano and that is exactly what I got! The yuka frita was delicious and even better the next day. On top of the great food, we had the pleasure of chatting with the co-owners, Bonita and James. They’re incredibly friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. “My family stumbled onto Mandola’s ItalianKitchen in Odessa Florida. What a delightful restaurant! From the moment we walked in, the customer service was excellent. We were greeted at the door by the manager, Chris. He explained how the restaurant ordering and seating worked. We ordered at the counter, where the young woman patiently took our order, clarifying along the way. The wine selection for the casual environment was impressive. We were given a table number and we found a seat. Immediately someone brought warm focaccia bread and Italian oil to dip it in. Our food arrived at our table surprisingly quick. The portions were huge (luckily we were provided to-go boxes when we were ready to leave) The servers were friendly and professional. The chefs were visible as they prepared the food. Our used dishes were removed promptly as we finished one course after another. Then Chris, the manager who first greeted us, came to our table to ensure that our experience had been not just satisfactory, but excellent. Which it was! We are putting Mandola’s Odessa on our favorite restaurant list for when we return to Tampa. Thank you!“

“The best old school Tex Mex in town. Fajitas are so much better than Chuys or Maudie’s. Then there are killer items like shrimp ala mexicana with chipotle and classic lengua. Green enchiladas crush the ones from other places. Margaritas are super tasty and there’s no better staff at this family run place. It’s all very reasonably priced. Can’t recommend it enough.“

I put 5 for atmosphere, even though it’s a food cart. I added that because the people are great and they’re great chefs too. I’m really satisfied with what I ate and I feel full and happy!

It’s also in the same parking lot as a store (Hula Hut) that has a great selection of beers and wines.
