“I had a very enjoyable dinner at this location on a Sunday night. I was alone, so I sat at the bar, and Zac the Bartender was extremely friendly, gracious, and knowledgeable about the local Waco food and beer scene. He also made a wonderful cocktail called the "Whale Hello There" that includes Gray Whale Gin, cucumber syrup, and Fever Tree lime & kuzu mixer. It was fantastic! There is also a tap handle from Waco's own Southern Roots brewery that you can't get anywhere else (including the brewery), and it was really good! Unfortunately, by the time I got there, they had run out of redfish for the day, but my mahi tacos were amazing, I would highly recommend! Overall, it was a great experience, and I will definitely be back on my next trip through.“

“Fabulous food and the staff is friendly and attentive. Wonderful atmosphere with creole music playing. It's Cajun flavor but not hot and spicy. Flavor that leaves your mouth happy and wanting more. Desserts looked tasty but we were too full to try them. Locally owned by a vet and his beautiful wife. Will definitely be back!“

“The food was amazing! We ordered the Nashville hot chicken tenders (which came with slaw, fries, and a hot bun) and a side of Mac and cheese. Everything was cooked perfectly and the chicken was so flavorful! Staff were super nice and establishment was very clean. We happen to stumble upon it while visiting Waco. If we are ever here again, we will return!“

“We were wanting fried chicken then Yelp lead us the way but upon entering the smell of the fried catfish is annoyingly (in a good way) messing up with our head. Haha. Ended up getting a basket of 3 catfish, 3 shrimp, and 3 oysters with fries and red beans and rice to share. This combo is good for 2 people already you can probably add another side, a la carte for more food but this is enough for us. Our order came out piping hot, fresh out of the fryer. No frills spot, upon entering you will be greeted by a nice lady to take your order and she will pleasantly wait for you to decide which one to get. Yes, it's chicken, and fried seafood but the combo is extensive. You can also asked for your basked to be grilled if you'd like for an extra. The place is what yours expect from a southern, catfish place. Open sitting and patrons hanging out just gossiping. They also have a drive thru window for the convenience of not having to get out of your car.“

“Looked up seafood on Yelp and wanted local , not chain. This eatery is in old Waco and gets all the locals. It's not glam but very neat and clean. Roxanne recommended several items. Hubby loves fish and got catfish fillets and said they were hot, crispy and huge portions. I got a Shrimp PoBoy snd it had fat flavorable shrimp. Bun toasted just right. We will be back. Great service that is rare these days.“

“After a business trip to Fort Worth concluded, on the way back home to Austin, I decided to stay the night in Waco. While there, I enjoyed a delicious meal in this hidden gem, 1424 Bistro, fit for a romantic evening for any couple. The service was exceptional and timed perfectly. Anissa, the bartender was very professional with her recommendations, and I was immensely impressed by her knowledge of running any sector of a restaurant. My selections for the evening included several new special appetizers and a Chef's Special Entrée which paired perfectly with a Pinot Noir from 1424's new Wine Menu.I very much enjoyed the traditional Greek selections for appetizers which were the grape leaf wrapped Dolmades served with a delicious Tzatziki sauce and the Kasseri Cheese served flambé style at table. Also, I enjoyed several of the Fried cheese portions as a side. The Bone-in Pork chop was cooked perfectly and adequately balanced with the delicious serving of garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetable medley. For dessert, I enjoyed a Vanilla Crème Brûlée that was fired perfectly to form a crisp and sweetened crust and garnished deliciously with blueberries and strawberries. To finish, the bartender and owner got creative on the spot with a Tiramisu Martini and let me try this as it is a newly developed bar drink. The atmosphere was eclectic and definitely a vibe to be enjoyed by anyone who appreciates delicious food that is reasonably priced and expertly prepared with an attention to detail that was unexpected, but a delight to experience. Live music, as I understand, is an added bonus for an enjoyable night.I must say, I will be bringing my girlfriend back to this perfect spot for a lovely evening away from the big city.“

“When it comes to menudo on a Sunday after a night of drinking lol.. This is the place to go if you want big meaty pieces of tripe. I have double meat in this photo, prices are very affordable and their tripe taste so beefy. You know it has to be the real deal. The only reason I gave them four stars is because in my opinion their flour tortillas are not the best that I've tried here in the Waco area. But their food I have never had any complaints. Open on Sundays till 10:00 p.m.“
