“Horrible experience. The descriptions on the menu are inaccurate. I went and had lunch with my 86-year-old mother. We ordered salads. She ordered Cobb salad and I ordered the fried chicken salad, because the description says it's served on a bed of "mixed greens". I hate iceberg lettuce. When my salad came, I ate the fried chicken tenders, but complained, because the salad was nothing but iceberg and romaine lettuce. The young, so-called manager, named TJ, was very rude and unapologetic and told me that lettuce is mixed greens. He told me if I wasn't happy, I could go to cooperate, in which I did. I was truly embarrassed by how I was treated in front of my mom. Update: I spoke to the owner Bob, he was super apologetic and embarrassed at how his employee treated us. He said the menu has been the same way for 30 plus years. We discussed how lettuce and mixed greens are NOT the same thing, and is misleading on the menu. I know after speaking with him that he will do the right thing.“

“I decided to stop by New Year's eve to get something in my stomach before drinking. They were full but I was offered a seat outside and took it. The food is all great here. Tonight they had a man carding at the front door. A customer came up already with a bad attitude. He didn't want to be carded and was insulted for he had been coming here for years. The gentleman minding the door whose name was Chris handled it very calmly with no attitude even though the guy calmed he didn't like Chris's attitude. the customer was clear trying to start something but only received politeness. I saw that same guy trying to start it up with another gentleman watching the door. Great job to Chris. He was also nice enough to stop and chat with me and do his job. I was the only one sitting outside it was nice to be acknowledged. Thanks“

“Absolutely, hands down one of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure of dining in. From the very friendly and helpful staff to one of the cleanest restaurants I have seen. While in town on October 24th and the 25th, had dinner on Friday and was so impressed, I had to go back Saturday before leaving. Needless to say, when I return to Roanoke I will be staying in the same location to only have this restaurant 3 blocks away.“

“I really can't say enough nice things about this place. The food we've had has always been outstanding. The beer selection has good variety (unlike other places that seem to almost entirely focus on IPAs and sours, which we hate) and there are lots of options for the non-beer drinkers. They were so gracious and accommodating recently when we came in for my husband's birthday - kept our ice cream cake cold, and brought it to us with serving utensils when we were ready. Seriously, who does that? And when we brought our pup in recently, one of the staff members brought us (out to the patio) a bowl of water and a biscuit without even being asked. Add in the atmosphere and frequent live music, and you've got a winner!“

“My husband and I ate here for the first time today. As soon as we walked in, it felt very comfortable and relaxed. We ordered the nachos with taco meat for our appetizer. It was very good! Everything was fresh, especially the jalapeños. You could tell they were not pre-sliced food service jalapeños. My husband ordered the smash burger a n d I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It was the first time ever he didnt have to tell the server to tell the cook to burn it just so he could get his burger well done. It was cooked perfectly. Let me say first, I am from the deep south (much further south than Virginia) and I am picky about my pulled pork. This pulled pork was perfect. The BBQ sauce has a nice, smokey hickory taste and the pork was not over cooked. The slaw had a very nice flavor that complimented the pork.It is the best pulled pork I have ever gotten that didnt come out of my own kitchen! To say we were very pleased would be an understatement. “This was our first time eating at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, and we stopped here while on a road trip. We had never tried this restaurant chain before, but after this visit, we would definitely eat here again.

I ordered the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. The country fried steak was really good and had a nice crunchy batter on the outside while still being tender inside. There was plenty of gravy over the steak, and the mashed potatoes and gravy went perfectly with it. The portion was also huge, so you definitely aren’t leaving hungry.

My wife ordered the steak and shrimp with green beans. Her steak was cooked well, the shrimp had good seasoning, and she enjoyed her meal as well.

One of our favorite surprises was the croissants they bring to the table. They were warm, sweet, buttery, and almost tasted like a dessert. We loved that the first ones were complimentary, and honestly, charging about a dollar each if you want more afterward isn’t bad at all. They were good enough that I could see ordering extras.

The service was also very good. Our food and drinks came out in a timely manner, and we never felt like we were waiting around for anything. Everything from sitting down to getting our food went smoothly.

Overall, this was a great first experience with Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. Good food, large portions, good service, and reasonable prices for what you get. Since this was just a stop during our road trip, we didn’t know what to expect, but we were glad we gave it a try.

We would definitely visit Cheddar’s again, and when we get back home, we’ll be looking to see if there’s one nearby so we can try some other things on the menu.“
