“When I walked into Holy Water, I felt like I’d stepped inside my favorite kooky aunt’s house. She was the black sheep of the family who made me laugh a little too much when we were forced to go to church to appease my grandmother. Eventually, we were forbidden to sit next to one another because we’d both be in tears and giggling so loudly that the entire congregation would turn to stare us down. That sort of irreverent (yet respectful and funny) vibe is part of Holy Water’s DNA. This place immediately makes you feel welcome. It doesn’t take itself too seriously- that is except for the food. If only my kooky aunt was as good a cook… The staff is amazing. They were patient when my lunch companion had to make some bizarre alterations to his order. (He’d just had a wisdom tooth pulled a couple of days before and needed softer foods.) When we were ready to leave and still had way too much food on our plates, a staff member saw the look of surrender on our face and quickly boxed up the remainders and told us that she’d added some extra gravy (yum!) for us to take home. (Who doesn’t love extra sausage gravy?) I love this place. The food is great but what really makes this spot shine is the people. I can’t wait to go back.“

“I always have a fun time at the Bethel Saloon! The drinks are good, the beer is cold, and they have the best (homemade) Clam Chowder on Fridays! (OMG! Soooo good!) ? On Thursday evenings come play " Bar Stool Bingo!", hosted by my cousin Joyce! “We were looking for a Thai restaurant that offered more of a sit down setting than a bare bones take out place. We went around 6 pm and were seated promptly. All 4 of us had amazing meals and the prices were reasonable. Our waiter was professional and friendly. Many of the dishes are made with rice noodles, making it perfect for those of us with gluten intolerance. The menu dishes were described in detail and all the dishes we ordered were delicious. Mine was pad pong kari talay, a seafood based dish with mussels. shrimp and the tenderest calamari I've ever had. The sauce was delicious and spiced to my request. Thai iced tea was a perfect accompaniment. There are dozens of Thai restaurants in Seattle- Nua is the place to go!“

All of it was delicious, in particular: the green salad had an interesting smokey dressing that I desperately need to know the recipe of, and the pork chop was cooked to perfection. “We tried the draft beers, classic burger, and tacos. The beers were excellent! The burger was decent but small for the price, with more fries than burger, and the tacos were just okay. The atmosphere is cozy, especially on the corner. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, though the outdoor area didn’t seem fully set up yet for cold weather (maybe it is still early). I’d like to come back to try their brunch options. Restroom was very clean and funny with all the memes playing on the displays.

The cranes on one end of each lock are there in case any of the lock gates fail, to lower temporary flow impeders across the lock and prevent the lake level from dropping until repairs can be made.
