“Ok, so I’ve been to SoHo Standard for brunch many, many times and it is my absolute FAVORITE dining experience in Birmingham. We stopped in yesterday afternoon for some cocktails and they were having a happy hour. It was absolutely incredible! We enjoyed the feta dip and the bacon wrapped dates. Delicious and you cannot beat the price!!! I was wishing that we didn’t have a dinner reservation for later in the evening so that we could just eat there! The drinks were also fantastic. I had an espresso martini and a Moscow mule. One of the best espresso martinis I’ve ever had. Stephanie was our server and she was amazing! Super sweet and attentive. Yes, the decor was low budget plastic and the disposable plates were still the usual for Covid, but the food was very good. No better fried shrimp and oysters. Everything was cooked to order and hot from the fryer. I think some previous reviewers were expecting Captain D's prices for very good seafood. I will definitely be going back when I want good seafood.“

I bought a family-pack of fish for guests that I did not know were coming over. I needed a quick solution. The guests loved the food so much, one of them called me weeks later wanting info on the restaurant because she started craving the food.

“I was genuinely excited to try this restaurant after passing by it so many times while traveling through Downtown Homewood. Unfortunately, my experience was a bit of a letdown. That said, it wasn’t terrible by any means, which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. A friend and I dined here together as most of my readers know, I often bring someone along for reviews to offer more than just my own perspective. Appetizer: We started with the Tallulah Wings, opting for the Sweet Heat Dry Rub with Alabama White BBQ sauce. The first surprise was that the wings arrived already coated in the sauce. In my opinion, when a sauce is meant as a dip, it’s best served on the side, not as a coating. Unfortunately, the wings themselves were quite underseasoned it reminded me of drinking a LaCroix, with just a faint whisper of the sweet heat flavor. That said, the little flavor I could taste had a nostalgic charm, reminiscent of Golden Flake potato chips and those are undeniably delicious. I just wish the wings had packed more of a punch. Entrée: Next, we tried the Social Stack, essentially their version of a McDonald's Big Mac. I have to say, it was significantly better than a Big Mac. The sauce was flavorful, the patties were fresh and well-seasoned, and everything came together beautifully. It’s a rich burger, but the crispy, seasoned fries helped balance that richness. The freshness and flavor made this burger a standout I’d absolutely order it again. If it weren’t for the disappointing wings, this meal would have earned a solid 4 out of 5 stars. As it stands, I’m giving it 3 out of 5. However, I do plan to return and explore more of their menu. I believe there’s potential here, and I’m hopeful my next visit will be a more satisfying experience.“

“Went to 2 different locations before visiting Prive/Palace. You get entry to the restaurant for free and the club in back for $10. Security will check you before entering and parking spaces were nice.

The bartender was very nice and the people eating were also very nice. We ate wings, fries, catfish nuggets and had some drinks in between visits to the back club“

“We had a phenomenal dinner at Brock’s. Huge shoutout to Chef Mark and our server, Diamond!!

Almost as soon as we were seated, the manager came over to talk to me about my dietary restriction. He explained that Chef Mark had seen the note on my reservation that I can’t have added salt and had already taken it into consideration. What really blew me away was that they actually went out of their way to prepare a special potato au gratin for me with no added salt. That kind of thoughtfulness and attention is so rare, and it meant more to me than they probably realized.

Chef Mark is truly AMAZING. My filet mignon was cooked absolutely perfectly. It was incredibly tender, flavorful, and honestly one of the best steaks I’ve had, even without added salt. The asparagus was also cooked perfectly, and the special potatoes were unbelievably delicious. It takes a truly talented chef to make food taste that good while working around a restriction, and Chef Mark absolutely nailed it.

And then there was Diamond, who made the whole experience even better. She was fantastic! She was attentive, funny, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. She took the time to give us detailed descriptions of different dishes and told us which ones were her personal favorites, which we absolutely love when a server does. It made the experience feel much more personal rather than just ordering off a menu.

Between Chef Mark’s incredible care and talent, Diamond’s wonderful service, and the manager making a point to personally check in with us, we felt genuinely taken care of from the moment we sat down. Brock’s should be very proud of this team. We will absolutely be back!“
