Wineries in Angwin

“I don't post about wineries very often, but when I find one that blows my mind - I got to share. Cimarossa Winery is one of the most scenic estates in Howell Mountain, with terraced vineyards and olive groves. The winery is located at 2,100 feet in elevation on the Vaca range in Napa Valley. The name comes from a beautiful translation of "red hill top" in Italian. The winery's owner is Dino Dina, who studied at the University of Genoa and helped cure diseases prior to his time running a phenomenal winery. I can't just speak highly of the wines themselves, but the experience is great. We received meats, cheeses, and nuts from local producers to pair / elevate the tasting experience. In addition, they grow their own olives that they press into some of the best domestic olive oil I have ever had.In our tasting we had four wines, which we ended up having shipped home to us after the tasting! 2019 Rive di Cimarossa:A blend of 100% cabernet sauvignon from all vineyard blocks of the Cimarossa estate2019 Rian:The grapes are sourced from two vineyard blocks split by a creek lined with olive trees. The vines are planted in a porous volcanic base with thin top soil, providing excellent drainage and therefore, very small, intense berries.2019 Riva di Ponente:The grapes are sourced from a 1.4 acre vineyard block with full western exposure. This is one of the warmest blocks due to the afternoon sun. The clusters are hand-picked and this single vineyard wine is aged for 22 months in French Oak, 50% of which is new.2019 Buriana:Buriana is a true reflection of the distinct vineyard from which it hales, named after a word from Dino's Genovese dialect which describes gales winds and wild summer weather.“

“It is an intimate experience at Summit. We brought along lunch to enjoy under the shade of a walnut tree while sitting with Heather as she shared her family story of the winery. It is a low-key environment with delicious wines to be tasted! I'm typically not a Zin fan but ended up ordering Zin to be shipped home.“

“We were fortunate enough to meet the winemaker on our visit. What a charming person and so down to earth! We found the RFV wines to be exceptional. The winery at the top of Howell Mountain isn't exactly on your way to anywhere but it's a beautiful drive and well worth the trip. My friends made the arrangements but I'm pretty sure you need an appointment to visit. I found the Claret to be a fantastic wine, while others enjoyed Griffin and the Howell Merlot and Cabernet. We were also treated to a taste of their latest port, not yet in a bottle. Absolutely wonderful! This is a top notch winemaker and if you have the opportunity to visit you should definitely do so. Otherwise find their wine and take it home. You will not be disappointed!“

“Great staff and family that produces great velvety wines. The Howell Mountain Appalachian is one of my favorite regions due to its volcanic terroir. Robert Craig wines have elegant profiles and enjoy much of their selection. As a member, it’s a treat to scale up to one of the highest points of Howell Mountain for a tasting while overlooking the valley of Angwin.“

“If I could give Dunn 6 stars I would. The wine is world class and classic in style Cabernet that highlights how good Napa can be when the winemaker lets the site and grapes speak for themselves. We also tried wine from the sister property Retro which was fantastic. Lisa, our host, was tremendous. She showed us great hospitality without being over the top and was incredibly knowledgeable. The site is beautiful and tasting room cozy. This should be a pilgrimage for any Napa fan looking to taste the truly legendary producers.“
