“This is the newer location of Yin Ji Chang Fen. Chang fen or cheong fun is a steamed flat rice noodle which can have different kinds of filling. It’s simple and homey kind of food that’s often sold by street vendors all over Asia. The store also carries a small selection of dim-sum dishes.“

“This family-run restaurant more than live up to the 5-star reviews and our daughter’s recommendation. What a nice experience: from making the reservation to friendly greeting on arrival, through delicious dessert. Authentic HK cuisine draws SF locals and visitors from all over Asia. Server helped us pick a variety of dim sum and other dishes for our party of 6. Beyond the terrific dumplings, our favorites were Drunken Chicken, Steamed Chilean Seabass, Seafood Ma Po Tofu, Ribeye with Mushroom, and Gai Choy. For dessert we split Egg Yolk Cake, Fried Sesame Ball, and Mango Pudding. We’ll be back, and I highly recommend the restaurant.“

“Great food and service. We had a full Peking duck, the duck and cabbage soup, spicy wontons, soup dumplings, and eggplant. Everything tasted amazing. My favorite was the rich broth of the duck soup followed by the duck itself. We would come back.“

“Came here two days in a row for a few items to have as breakfast, great pricing and the lady was very helpful. There is a bit of waiting in the morning on certain items but I believe it was worth waiting. Also there’s one medium size table to be able to dine in but other than that it’s mostly take out.“

“We had a great experience here! It was our first time having dim sum. We were visiting from out of town and enjoyed this restaurant because we could make a reservation for six before coming to town. It was hard to find a place to enjoy doing some and be able to make a reservation also. I did have to call to make the reservation but it was easy to do. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have egg tarts in the evening because that was something I really wanted to try. But everything else on the menu that we tried was very good. The service was great!“
“As someone who just moved to the neighborhood and is currently 9 months pregnant, I was craving some good Dim Sum. Decided to take a chance on Uber/Postmates delivery. I was blown away and pleasantly surprised. Food can warm and toasty and the food is AMAZING! Will definitely come back in person to try more options. This is the best Dim Sum thus far and will be my newest pregnancy craving moving forward. The dumplings are SO GOOD! Presentation, Quality, flavor etc. with soy sauce and chili oil - Chefs kiss 💋 I would have provided a picture for my review but I inhaled it before I could start this review 😅“

“I personally don’t think the barbecued pork bun is particularly delicious, but overall it’s okay. I don’t know why there are so many people queuing up 😂 Maybe it’s because the price is very cheap. A barbecued pork bun only costs two yuan.“

“Cheap, big portions, good flavors. Recommend the spare ribs over rice, shrimp dumplings, and fried shrimp ball. A “cafeteria” style restaurant, that was very full when we went. May have to wait for tea and table cleaning, but food came out really fast.“

“No wait to sit down which is uncommon for dim sum in the area. Friendly and quick service despite being understaffed. They were out of quite a few items on the menu. The scallion oil noodles just tasted like soy sauce, I don't recommend those. I do recommend the bbq pork buns, string beans, and pork sheng jian bao. The last two are a must order!“

“Every time I stop by this place,I pick up 1 or 2 of their baked char siu bao. I usually finish them before I can walk 2 or 3 blocks away but hey they're meant to be enjoyed. It's not a typical char siu bao because this one has a sweet soft white crust on top that's almost reminiscent of a pineapple buns top. It costs $2 each and it's worth a try if you want to experience a variant on the char siu bao.
The ladies working there are friendly and efficient. It's a small shop so it's best as a grab and go place.“

“We came here to try the bbq fried rice. They are called a dim sum cafe but people who were eating here seemed to be ordering more a la carte/entree type dishes.
It looked like your typical restaurant in the area. Nothing fancy but pretty busy. Our bbq fried rice was fresh and tasty. Simple but satisfying and reasonably priced.“

“A very locals option for carry out dimsum — a selection not as extensive as other Cantonese bakeries on San Bruno Avenue, but good quality. Charsiu bao (BBQ pork buns) are meaty (not fatty), getting the more-savory-to-sweet proportions just right.“

“May2025 No frills counter style servings which is what you should expect in SFO Chinatown. The food to a certain extent is old style of making traditional Chinese fare. What turns people off is often the prices but this is SFO.
One must manage one's expectations and dine here within the proper context of immigrants catering to tourism.“

“It’s so delicious I came to Sanfan for a conference trip and lived in this community. What I look forward to most every morning is to go to his house for breakfast. It has a more authentic morning tea and has everything. It’s so happy for the treasures from the Midwest.“
“If you like the predecessor of 8th St Cafe, called D&A cafe at the corner of Webster st cross 7th st 20 years ago, you would love this Hay Yue restaurant.I came for dinner today. The dishes are $20-$25 each, not too bad considering minimum wage is $16 an hour. If you want to enter value mode, you can get $39.99 for 3 dishes in smaller portions. The bamboo lamb brisket in clay pot is as delicious as you would expect. The one in my photo is a small portion version. A lot of lamb, very generous.Scrambled egg with prawns is a Hong Kong classic dish and this restaurant cooked it very well. The eggs are creamy as it should be. You can compare it with scrambled egg with bitter melons, which is another style that cooked the eggs a bit more. I like the creamy one more. This restaurant cooked these two dishes in two different styles that they should be, very good job here.If you like spicy food, you can give sichuan stir-fried chicken a try. It is surprisingly spicy enough to taste good. They have some customizations for clay pot rice which are not shown in the menu. For example, we can order a larger size of chicken pot rice with added preserved meat. I am not fond of pot rice in general, but they are very popular in this restaurant. People started ordering them at around 10:30 am!You will not be disappointed with the milk tea with condensed milk as well.Hay Yue restaurant is definitely a strong character in chinatown that you should put it on top of your taste menu, especially now other good ones were folded or gone.“

“Old school dim sum. Good prices. First time here, but have eaten dim sum for a long time. Items ordered: Gai lan, BBQ pork buns baked, pan fried shrimp and chive dumplings, rice roll filled with BBQ pork, Shanghai dumplings. Tasty food. An option we chose was a tea service at the table (<$6), worth it. I saw some remarkable dishes that I will be returning to taste.
It was packed with people and even more in another dining room (mostly Asian people, although there were some Latin, Black and White people as well).
This place is family run and demonstrates that they want to be above your average hole in the wall dim sum house for the inside: fancy curtains, nice chairs, and stage for entertainment, the outside needs some TLC. Good alternative if you don’t want to deal with Chinatown congestion.“

“Those who complain on the thread about spicy food perplex me—why did they go to a Sichuan restaurant? I have a lower craving/tolerance for spice than a typical Chinese person with Sichuan roots—I like the flavor but don't seek the heat necessarily. To me, the food at Z&Y was the appropriate level of spicy and flavorful. Actually, there's a variety of regional specialties, and our party just ordered what we felt like without regard to trying to get a typical Sichuan meal. I had meant to book a table at Z&Y Peking Duck across the street, but I didn't mind the mistake! I don't live in SF, and am willing to shell it out for a Michelin fine dining experience. I found Z&Y was relatively expensive and in slightly more modest proportion to what one might expect for a typical Chinatown restaurant, but worth it due to the extremely high quality and authentic food. Decor and service style are also typical Chinatown vibe. We had to get egg rolls for the youngest adult with us, and they were crisp and tasty. Tan tan noodles had spice and subtle flavor at the same time. We ordered Peking duck and I wondered if we got the tea smoked duck, but we didn't even complain because there was a LOT of duck and the smoky flavor was unique and delicious—and there were enough thin pancakes, sauce, cucumber, and spring onions. Pea shoots and cumin beef were very tasty. We added on Dong Po Ro (Pork Shoulder) as our last dish came to the table because we needed more food. It came to the table quickly and was melt in your mouth tender. Yes, it is very fatty, but that's the point of this cut—if you don't like fat, don't get Dong Po Ro! Lots of happy accidents with this meal, wouldn't change a thing.“

“Perfect place to grab satiating lunch and dinner when on-the-go AND on-a-budget. Discovered this place on a trip and have been coming back ever since. Communication can be quite tricky but you can also point out what you want and they’re very generous with their portions. The food is really good from the fried chicken/pork to the rice, noodles, vegetable stir fry, shrimp, etc. The lines can be long during lunch rush but they work to get you in & out as quickly as possible“

“Really great clay pots with plenty of delicious crispy rice. The ox tail was also very tasty. The eel clay pot was a little wormy for some of us but still tasty. Again, the star is the crispy rice.
Has gotten somewhat popular so we had to wait quite a while. Not much room for a stroller.“

“Excellent choice for local, cheap dim sum in the Chinatown area of SF. You will see people ordering in bulk from here as they are also providers for other restaurants in the area.
There is seating outside with the shed they built. Pieces of dimsum or buns are cheap and ten dollars will get you full for a few hours of walking and exploring the city! Enjoy this hidden gem!“

“got a light dinner here before keshi's sf concert! the place was surprisingly empty at 5pm and we were seated right away. we ordered the beijing noodles and pork xiaolongbao to split between four people. the dishes were flavorful and refreshing but the portions were teeny tiny for the price. i wouldn't eat here again out of consideration for my wallet.“
“Delicious Dim Sum, you got something goingYou're a hidden gem in China town that's worth knowingYou're dim sum delight are very tastyAnd your food is all ready and so come here if you're hastyDim Sum here is CHEAP!!! I can get full off of $5 if you choose right. Their Shu mei (pork stemmed thingies), Ha gow (Shrimp dumplings), and their steamed lotus leaf with sticky rice and meat (the one without the cords) is great! Not sure why this place has two dollar signs as it's CHEAP and good. Worth the trek from all the way from SOMA.“

“A bit of a hole in the wall restaurant serving Chinese food with an emphasis on noodles. I had the bbq pork bun and tan tan mien, both of which were really fresh and flavourful. Prices are pretty standard and the portions are pretty big for the price. The place was completely empty when I went there during lunchtime on a weekday so service was quite fast. There was one guy tending to the front of the store and he was polite and attentive. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.“

“Food was good. I had chicken corn soup and potstickers. The soup was enough for two, and it had quite a bit of soft and tender chicken in it. They supplied soy sauce for the potstickers, but it would been better if they included a choice of hot spicy oil. The prices are high. But the place is well kept, not rundown or neglected.“

“This is my new go-to dim sum restaurant in the east bay! The dining room is spacious with tall ceilings, natural light, and simply elegant decor. “Great place for late-night snack! Made fresh!
It was late at night when I was struck with the feeling of hunger... this place was my savior!
I just wanted a snack so I ordered the fried pork puff, $6 for 3 scrumptious puffs! They made them fresh which took about 5 minutes and it was sooo yummy.... perfect amount of crispiness, chewiness, lightly sweet, with a sufficiently salty pork inside...
I am not familiar with chinese food but I can say that this will now be my go-to place for a late night snack!“

“Here I brought the sticky rice buns & bbq beef filled buns they were really nice, the store gets busy and not a lot of room to move around so it’s hard to see what you would really like, service is good but could do with some improvement. But a busy bakery is a good bakery in my opinion. Will definitely visit again & recommend maybe try some more foods“

“This is the best place for steamed bun in Oakland Chinatown! My family and I have been going here for many years and we have always enjoyed their pork buns, "big" buns (contains egg, chicken, seasoned pork, and Chinese sausage), cabbage & pork buns, and custard buns. For us, their steamed bread products are really what shine here, the bread is fluffy & soft without being too sweet or dry and the fillings are well-seasoned, fresh, and plentiful. Yummy Dim Sum was closed for a while for remodeling and our family had to try other places in Chinatown for steamed buns and all the others were not even close to the quality of this place. After remodeling, their prices were raised a bit (around $1 to $1.50 per item), but their prices are still very affordable and honestly, I don't think any small shops in the Bay Area can survive charging any less than they do at the moment. Furthermore, the shopkeepers are very nice and patient when we go there, which is always a nice plus for to-go shops such as this. Given they are one of the last good steamed bun places left in Oakland, my family & I are more than happy to support them when we can and would highly recommend you give them a try as well!“
