“Rose has been my go-to donut/ coffee/ breakfast spot for over a year now. The Vietnamese iced coffee is AMAZING. And the staff are so sweet and friendly, it’s definitely a neighborhood gem. Only downside is you need to get there early in the morning before the line starts!“

The old fashioned donuts are perfect, they use REAL custard in their Boston cremes (none of that Bavarian cream cop out stuff), and the classic donuts are airy and delightful, without tasting of oil (which is a mistake many donut shops make). Donut Star has succeeded in making the optimal donut in all its forms. It’s delightful, impressive, and sure to bring me back!!“

“Wow! What a light eclair and not overly sweet…simply delicious. And this is at 5pm, craving a donut on the way home from work. Can you imagine the taste within an hour of opening in the morning? No wonder nearly every rack was empty at 5pm. The apple fritters and double chocolate were just as delicious and perfect for coffee in the morning. I’m not a routine donut guy, but I just found my “go to”donut shop when I have that craving or guests in town. Family-owned and operated and their pride delivered in award-winning donuts!“

The bummer:
Unpredictability with opening/closing. Showed up today at 9:10 am, lights off, no donuts in the display. On their Google page, and their window, says they should be open. This has occurred at least 3 other times. Perhaps need to call before making the drive to come here.“

“Apparently this doughnut shop has been around for a long time. I driven by here hundreds of time and didn't even know it was there. I stopped in for a maple old fashion and a cup of coffee.

The maple old fashion was very good. It had those good crisp edges and soft middle. The maple flavor was very good. The lady Chen, dropped a couple of glazed doughnut holes in my bag and they were good. The coffee was very good. It was of the drip variety and it was smooth with good flavor.

The owner Chen was very nice. She was a one woman crew when I came in, and with several customers, the handled it well with a smile on her face. The doughnut shop offers a variety of doughnuts, breakfast sandwiches, frozen yogurt, and ice cream.“

“Got this via door dash bc of a craving on a Saturday. Did not expect them to be the freshest donuts I’ve ever purchased. Maybe I got lucky, but the oil used was new, did not taste the oil. The box didn’t even get oil stains. Bread had a nice saltiness and flavor. Very glad I tried them out and I will definitely be back.“

“Got a half dozen for $6.99 using the Too Good To Go app - on Christmas Day, the employee I spoke to was a little distant but still kind. The donuts were good quality (especially considering TGTG is designed to sell foods that would otherwise be tossed out) and not too sweet or dry. I might not attend as a regular but I would definitely consider ordering from TGTG again!“

These are fresh, delicious, not too sweet and the perfect size for preschoolers (or adults who want "just a bite"). “I decided to give this place a try through Too Good To Go, and wow—I was impressed! I got two drinks, one Peach Mango and one Brown Sugar, and both were phenomenal. The boba was cooked perfectly—not too hard, not too soft. I think I’ve officially found my new favorite drink spot!

The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because the customer service could have been a little friendlier. It wasn’t bad, just not very welcoming. Still, the drinks were so good that I’ll definitely be back!“

A classic neighborhood donut shop that is superior among the novelty places because they consistently prove that less is more & donuts don’t need to come in crazy flavors or with excessive toppings. The original donuts are fluffy with a slight crisp on the outside and melt in your mouth. Our favorites are the APPLE FRITTER - crispy crunchy chewy goodness, and of course, the buttermilk and old fashioned ones- always crispy and freshly fried to perfection.“

“I was really dragging this morning. I didn't even want to get out of bed, I had work today. I went into yum yum to get some coffee. I didn't want Starbucks coffee that coffee is disgusting. I wanted to really strong coffee like Vietnamese or something. I went in there sluggish and down. Moses was there full of energy, gave me a really warm greeting. I told him what what I wanted and he's like what else unfortunately we don't have that but he was so eager to help me and give me whatever I needed. I just got a regular coffee he made sure if I wanted room. I did actually want room for my cream. It seems ridiculous but his body language and his vibe was everything I needed this morning to get my day started. I left there in a great mood from that small interaction and I felt compelled to write him a review. I don't get that from places often, especially nowadays. And I think this man deserves credit for going above and beyond. Just making people days better with warm attentive energy.

I asked for his name before I left and I wanted to write him something. Please do something special for him. I hope management sees this. He's a special guy at least buy him lunch sometime or something really“

“Just a short walk from where we stay on San Ysidro Blvd. whenever I'm in San Diego. Love this little bakery/coffee shop. We don't have a Yum Yum on the East Coast! This must be a West Coast place so it's a little treat when I come to this side of the country! The staff are super kind and friendly too. “This review is specially for their amazing apple fritters! So much can go wrong while making these but Yum Yum nails them every time.

These fritters are absolutely ripped with chunks of apple contrasted by the crispy edges from a perfect deep fry. Plus they're so big you might have a hard time eating a whole one. Though I managed to persevere in the face of near defeat and won.

A must if you're into hefty amounts of fried apples in dough!“

“There were two extremely patient and kind girls working the counter today and they made this place worth talking about. We are from Orlando, FL and we have been itching to find a good Boba spot for the last 4 days. As soon as I walked in, I felt like I already won the lottery. Their churro donut is phenomenal and light, but what really impressed me was when we went off menu and I asked for a taro coconut item. One of the girls said that she likes those two best when they are mixed together in a smoothie and...she did not disappoint. The taro coconut smoothie is better than anything I have tried in Orlando. In addition, I decided to try something new and asked for the pink coconut milk tea (essentially it was strawberry and coconut). Once again, I LOVED the drink. I hope I do come back to San Diego soon and bring family along with me because I loved the atmosphere, employees/customer service, and menu items.

I have a dairy allergy so these two drinks made me feel like there is no other place I would rather be.“

“You go for the donuts and nothing else :) . They are amazing. I read many reviews on the terrible customer service. My unbiased opinion is the owner is friendly enough, but won't win any awards for outstanding customer services. Get there early otherwise, you'll miss out.

Parking: Easy to park.“

The man at the counter was patiently waiting for us to decide since we were so undecided of what we wanted to try. He even suggested some doughnuts for us. The donuts themselves were delicious and soft. Overall, great experience.“
