50 Best Japanese Restaurants near Granite Bay

“Another fantastic addition to the Granite Bay dining scene! Tucked away in the former Peet’s Coffee plaza, this contemporary sushi spot is quickly becoming one of my new favorites.

The first thing I noticed was the quality and generosity of the food. Unlike many sushi restaurants, they don’t skimp on the fish or the rolls. Every dish was beautifully presented, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared.

The lobster tempura was perfectly seasoned with a light, crispy batter. The Liz Roll actually delivered on the spice (which is rare these days), and the sashimi was cut thick, buttery, and incredibly fresh. If you’re an oyster lover, don’t skip the fresh oysters—6 for $28 is a great deal. Their Happy Hour menu also offers plenty of delicious options, making it easy to sample a variety of dishes without breaking the bank.

Happy Hour runs Monday through Friday from 5–9 PM, so expect a crowd. During our visit, it seemed they may have been a bit short-staffed, and our food took longer than expected to arrive. Hopefully that’s just part of the growing pains of a popular new restaurant.

The only thing I’d love to see is a patio. With Granite Bay’s beautiful evenings, outdoor seating with a few cooling misters would make this place even more enjoyable while waiting for a table or lingering over sushi and drinks. Thankfully, they do offer a Yelp waitlist, which makes the wait much more manageable.

The staff remained friendly, welcoming, and appreciative despite how busy they were, which says a lot.

Overall, the quality of the food easily outweighed the wait. Fresh fish, generous portions, creative rolls, and a solid Happy Hour make this a place I’ll happily return to again and again. Looking forward to seeing this hidden gem continue to thrive!“

“Wow. Just had the most amazing sushi experience. New place Roku near our house. A curated experience with individual accompaniments with each fish type. This was the Sashimi presentation with more exotic fish. All are aged fish which added to the evening“

“My boyfriend and I went on a Wednesday. The place was super chic and clean. The music was really good too it was covers of some 90s music which was fire.Our server was sweet and made the environment very warm and welcoming. My boyfriend and I got miso soup cucumber salad for an appetizer which was PHENOMENAL. For our sushi rolls we ordered a dragon roll & a salmon roll (fried) both were really good and gone within 2 seconds. For dessert they have mochi ice cream and I ended up deciding on the mango flavor which was so light and fruity, delicious. My boyfriend and I will definitely be back!!!“

“Solid food with a wide variety of menu items, casual vibe, and excellent service. Our waitress was so invested in our comfort the entire time. She was always refilling waters, getting us more napkins or small plates or ginger, and asking if we needed anything. “Overall amazing experience. Tonkatsu miso ramen was amazing. Boyfriends tantan spicy ramen was also delicious and not too spicy. Also got the chicken karaage which was cooked to perfection. Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Definitely will come back to try other things. 🤩“

“Delicious food! We shared the Chicken teriyaki bento plate and it was so much delicious fresh food. The terriyaki sauce was my favorite I’ve ever had. The chicken has a great char and the mushrooms in the teriyaki were a welcome surprise. The tempura was airy and light and had some fun additions like oyster mushrooms and kabocha squash. We also ordered two rolls, the Lion King and the So Fine. The fish was fresh and the sauces on top were amazing. We’re looking forward to coming back again soon.“

“Nara Sushi is a spacious Japanese restaurant in Folsom offering sushi, bento boxes, and other traditional dishes. During our visit for a late lunch, we were seated immediately and found the restaurant comfortable and easygoing. The dining room includes tables, booths, counter seating, and tablets at each table for electronic ordering.

We started with hot sake and gyoza before moving on to our main dishes. Our group ordered a nigiri and tempura bento box, a salmon teriyaki bento box, and a Spicy Yellowtail Roll. Everything was well prepared, portions were good, and everyone enjoyed their meal.

The service was friendly, and the overall experience was relaxed and enjoyable. It's a solid choice if you're looking for sushi or Japanese food in the Folsom area.“

“We were such a big group that we took over 2 cooking table stove tops. When the cooks performed their cooking show, it was great! Big flames and throwing bits of food in the air and us trying to catch it with our open mouths was incredibly fun. We had a few kids under 10 and they REALLY loved it. “I rarely feel compelled to write a review, but this place is a hidden gem. Roseville has plenty of excellent sushi, but sometimes a tucked away hole in the wall, with consistently great food, reasonable prices, and servers who treat you like family, is exactly what hits the spot.

It is easy to drive past without ever knowing it is there, but well worth finding. The rolls are excellent, the udon should not be missed, and there is a little treasure on the small plates menu called dragon balls. Highly recommended.“

“I recently dined at this restaurant and came away with a generally positive impression, though there is definitely room for improvement regarding their sushi portions. Right from the start, the overall atmosphere was great; the entire dining area was spotlessly clean, and the service was consistently good and welcoming.

For my meal, I decided to sample a couple of their signature sushi options. We ordered the Caterpillar roll and the Kamikaze roll. In terms of construction, both rolls suffered from a bit of an imbalance in their ingredients. The Caterpillar roll was filled mostly with cucumber, leaving only very small, sparse bits of eel inside. Similarly, the Kamikaze roll was packed with too much crunchy cucumber, which slightly overwhelmed the spicy tuna mix.

However, despite the rolls being skimped on fish and overloaded with vegetable filler, the quality of the food was still quite high. Every bite was remarkably fresh, clean, and tasty. The flavors are definitely there, and the kitchen clearly uses good components. If the chefs can balance out the ratios to include a bit more seafood and less cucumber, this place would easily earn a top rating from me.“

“this is the best sushi place in the world. the lady up front is super nice. the spider roll ran shivers across my body like the first time i was touched intimately by my first love. the food is incredible and really cheap. its like 9 bucks for the best roll of your life.

“Excellent food with a diverse menu for those who wish to order something other than sushi. You can easily make a meal with the appetizers alone, which I have done on more than one occasion. Mikuni is our go to for special occasions and when we have guests visiting.“

I think booths along the walls and some partitions and maybe some tropical plants would go a long way to making a more enjoyable dinning experience. But again, the food was good as was the service. “I come here more than I should probably admit. The sushi is always fresh, and the service is just as good. These days I usually grab takeout since I work on the road, but every time I pass by, my car somehow pulls into their lot on its own (very bizarre).

Everything I have tried has been great. One tip, if you like a little kick, ask for jalapenos on your roll. You will not be disappointed.“

“I've been visiting Mikuni locations since 1998 - I'm old enough to remember when there was a salad bar with orange jello at the Hazel Ave. location.
This new one is probably the best I've been to. The service was very professional, the food was just that little bit better that I'm used to, with some welcome touches - a tiny little swirl of Mayonnaise on my Bento box was a delight. Also the Karaage chicken was floured, rather than battered which was a novelty. Just the fact that they set out a decent amount of Sushi ginger meant that I didnt have to ask for it.
I still would have liked the complementary miso bowl but you can't have everything.
My spouse liked her Teriyaki Salmon too.
The EDH location is lovely - next time I think we'll eat outside.
