“This unassuming, smallish restaurant is a gem. I have eaten there twice, and highly recommend the more unusual dishes - agadashi, yakatori and mango panna cotta dessert. They have a long list of wine, beer and saki. Their sushi is good, but not anything special. Service is attentive; they really take care of you. Recommended for lunch and dinner.“

“Hidden in convoy behind a taco spot, is hidden fish. Upon entry, we were greeted warmly and professionally by the wait staff. Inside is so very clean and sharp. Chef is standing in the prep area prepping the pieces for the night. Chef Peter greets us so kindly while maintaining his focus on the prep. He is such a great host and chef. Entertaining us with questions from where we are from to where we have been, to what we have eaten. His aura radiated on our side of the bar seating. I felt like we were at a different restaurant than the other sections. Chef Peter made us feel safe and comfortable with him as we were about to embark on an 18 piece course of lifeEverything was amazing. Scallop, barracuda, yellow tail, cod, otoro, salmon, local AA uni, and albacore. Every piece of art as tasty as it looked beautiful. Omakase is more than just food. More than leave it up to the chef. It goes beyond a dining experience. It’s a story in time. For those 90 minutes, we were in a time where nothing else mattered but the beauty of what life has to offer. A must experiencePS. I asked chef Peter what the story was behind the name Hidden Fish. He said there is a hidden fish somewhere in the wood of the restaurant. If you find it, you get free omakase dinner“
“Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The inside is quite cozy so would definitely recommend making a reservation. We ordered a good amount of food to share amongst the six of us. Service was prompt and friendly. Would come back here if we were ever craving Yakitori again.“
“Michelin star must try. The evening couldn’t have been better. We drove by and on a whim and stopped by this place not knowing it was a Michelin restaurant. Very intimate venue with 2 tables outside, 3 tables inside, and the sushi bar. We asked if there was availability for 2 and we were advised they were booked for the night. We walked outside to contemplate our next move when to our surprise said they could fit us in within about 30 min. They called me in less than 30 min to tell me the table was ready and seated us. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. After ordering an item we were checked in on and then made recommendations based on our likes. The food was AMAZING! This is a must try and they only open up the books once a month on the first of the month to book a spot for the next month. We got super lucky to get a chance to try out this great spot and will for sure be back.“
“Spectacular experience. The ambiance is intimate, unique, and the food is fantastic. I was so impressed with David who helped us choose some wonderful dishes, including the special of the night. It was clear every single person we encountered was the height of professionalism. Our meal was the highlight of our evening, every last bite delicious.“
“The parking is little tricky and sometimes you need to park on the street. The sushi and presentation is authentic and very very fresh. The two chefs create very friendly environment. We love going there. The price of the food is very reasonable and well worth it.They change the menu every 3 months. We definitely will be back.“
“Just started dealing with gluten free. Wait staff and chef very helpful in showing me gluten free menu options. Suggest a gluten free choice instead of miso. Also gluten free lunch special would be great. Thank you. Love your sushi. Always excellent.“
“I had an incredible dinner experience at Kinme Japanese restaurant! The combination of entertainment and top-notch food quality made it a fantastic evening. Miyazaki A5 beef: you can cut the meat with a fork! So juicy and soft. Worth the money to try the meat. Sashimi and sushi fish were also fantastic. All melted in my mouth. Witnessing the chefs skillfully prepare our dishes right in front of us added an extra layer of amazement to the dining experience. Finishing with matcha tea they traditionally made in front of us was awesome. The service was excellent. Calming relaxed setting with just the right amount of service at the right moment, the whole experience made enjoyable. The attention to detail and the delicious flavors truly set this restaurant apart. I highly recommend Kinme for an unforgettable Japanese culinary journey!"“
“Very kind workers. The setting is good. We got the sashimi omakasr. The mackerel is the best I've ever had. And I loved what they did with the fried head and body. But, in terms of the other fish, I wasn't really impressed. There are much better places at this price point.“
“Had an amazing time at Harmony. We sat at the bar and had the omakaze menu. The quality of the fish was incredible and the staff was so friendly and helpful. Chef Mickey does a wonderful job pairing flavors that have you happy to the last bite. Highly recommend; this place is a gem!“
“This is amazing. The sushi is so fresh. Not even a hint of fishiness in any of the sushi. All you taste is the delicious fish. No weird after taste or anything like that. They have amazing specialty rolls. They've got truffles they've got smoker. They will blow your mind. I highly recommend people check this place.“
“This place is beyond amazing! Not only LOCAL and FAMILY owned and operated, they do amazing work for the community. The food is absolutely delicious too! This is a wonderful place to visit by yourself, on a date, with family or friends, or meeting to with colleagues!“
“By far THE BEST meal I've had in San Diego after 2 trips here from Canada in the last 3 months! I've never had hot pot before & Aaron was incredible with his service, recommendations & hospitality!! I see cannot tell you how much we enjoyed this experience & the immensely! I cannot wait till our next trip to SD in a few months & we'll be back to eat here again! ?“
“Good Japanese grocery store! I am so happy that it’s located in this area! I like Mitsuwa in general so it gives me comfort when I see it around! They are some restaurants in the store so you get to have hot japanese foods right there! :)Keep up the good work!Cheers ?“
“I had the most amazing kimchi fried rice here today. The portion was super generous for the price of $12, and their chicken was so flavorful. I was able to have this dish for about two rounds of leftovers too! The staff at the front were quite warm and the food was made in about 10-15 minutes. The vibe inside is really cute, too. They have hanging plants all throughout, and they have lots of sunlight inside. Can't wait to try something else next time.“
“Uncle Tetsu has become a pinnacle in my family home . This is my one true cheesecake love! I was there in the grand opening , and tried it for the first time. Now here I am still going to this day. The quality is never lacking and you can tell that the workers, put so much love and effort in those cheesecakes. I hope they know how appreciative I am of them. Thank you Uncle Tetsu for such delicious food!“
“I've been craving some fish and this had really hit the spot! I had gotten the sashimi bowl and it was really satisfying, the fish was cut into larger strips and it was tender and it didn't have a strong fishy smell to it. The rice underneath was quite good as well it was flavorful without being overly vinegar-y. Also if anyone was wondering what the difference was between the sashimi bowl and the sashimi set with rice (both of which are the same price), it seems like there's more rice in the sashimi bowl and there's some crushed seaweed and sesame seeds on the sashimi bowl between the rice and the fish. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, I don't think I would bring more than 2-4 people with me.“
“Good service and food. The dragon roll, oh man I am not big on salmon, but it was just how I imagine it should be. Mike and Maria are awesome host! They were caring towards my kids and even celebrated my daughter’s birthday with us. Congratulations on there success and resilience during the past few years. I know their hearts are in the right place and that they will continue to strive to be successful in everything they do. Oh and for sure we’ll be back to stuff me fat face!Vegetarian options: I did not checkParking: It’s a strip mall in the busiest part of San Diego. So, yeah.Kid-friendliness: They were awesome with the kids!Wheelchair accessibility: The parking is tight but there was a space in front.“
“I returned to this place after it changed the name and I love the food even moreIt’s good quality and fair pricing is why I come here more oftenThe chefs are great ! The service is ok once given the bill not a thank you or take your time ?Most of all the food is fresh that’s what matters and it was clean“
“Every piece of sushi is excellent. Draft beer is severed through chilled lines. Service is top notch.Parking: Metered street parking. Normally can find a spot within a couple of blocks but there will be exceptions/ busier days.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible“
“We became a big fan of Kokoro and the chef. We had Sushi Omakase. My husband and I are from Japan, but this place had the best and most authentic sushi we've found anywhere in Japan or the U.S. I chose it for my husband's birthday, and it was a hit including the atmosphere and portion! We've since recommended it to some friends, and they've all been fans as well. We will definitely be going back soon!“
“The temaki is amazing .., so taste! I had salmon and shimeji with cream cheese. They added a lot of fish on top and inside. Also the deep fried temaki. The combo came with two appetizers and drink as well.5 stars for sure! I will definitely come back. Thank youuuu Andre!“
“My new favorite local sushi spot! Great selection of rolls and great quality for the price! They also have combo options. I've enjoyed everything I've gotten so far. My favorite is the Lemon Cilantro roll. Gotta support my local small businesses!“
“We loved the ambiance was very peaceful and all the decorations from outside painting to real pink flowers on the table and matching pink glasses were just so cute and well designed. Jasmine tea was served in a cute tea pot and they served without the tea leaves which makes the tea not bitter but soft flavor. Portions are big, worth the price. Egg omelette dish was good but had little too much tomato sauce. Our waitress was friendly. We really loved the house chicken broth soup and salad comes with sesame dressing. Overall, would recommend to anyone!“
“Ok I don’t write reviews for local places because I am on the run all the time. HOWEVER, when something blows me away I like to promote them. OMG the gnocchi bread amazingness is unbelievable! I have had gnocchi before even in Italy but severed in a bread bowl OMFG that is amazing. The vibe is trendy low key. I think this is my new favorite restaurant in San Diego! P.S. wife had sushi and said it was delicious (I hate fish so no idea there but she likes it for reasons unknown to me?). Perfect date night or couples who have different palates. Just a great place you should go!“
“Delicious and artful shabu shabu for a great price. I loved the sukiyaki and shoyu broths and the great dipping sauce combinations. Read the instructions on the menu for some help! The egg is pasteurized so you can crack it in the bowl and use it as a dipping sauce for your hot meat bites. The yolk is the best part .The server is very skilled but he serves many people at once so he can be a bit short but he is kind. I left my ring in the bathroom and he saved it for me so I could pick it up the next day ☺️. Don't take it personally. The shabu shabu and experience is well worth it.“
“Delighted to discover this gem in Bay Ho/Bay Park in San Diego. Love the vibe, excellent service, and the food is great! I went with chef's choice, but the small portion, "Jun Kun". It came with edamame and miso soup, followed by 4 pieces of delicious sashimi (halibut, amberjack, salmon, and red snapper). Then came along 3 beautiful pieces of nigiri, salmon belly with ikura on top, yellowtail belly, and chutoro with caviar. Finished it off with a blue crab hand roll. There was craftsmanship and care in the preparation and the fish tasted amazing and so fresh.Excited to come back and try more on the menu!“
“We went to this shopping strip looking for another restaurant but ended up going here. We liked the environment, and the place was pretty busy. The waiter was great and the service overall was very attentive. The sushi variety was good and quality was good, although we are not a big sushi fans. We recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi. They had two options: 1) Order per menu, or 2) buffet for $38.99. We opted for buffet since we do not know much about sushi. This way tried a lot of types of sushi type food and it was good.Parking: Plenty of parking, but the parking lot was pretty full. Plenty of other popular stores and restaurants in this strip.“
“Food is excellent here. It's a feast for your eyes as well as your stomach. The yellowtail Crudo is one of my favorites. Chef Nghi and his staff are top tier. One of the best sushi restaurants in San Diego. You won't be disappointed.“
“This was probably the best ramen I’ve had. 5 stars easily for the food. Atmosphere only gets 4 stars because I feel like there could be more comfortable chairs. Or even cushions on the wood benches. Overall great experience.Vegetarian options: Delicious vegan optionsDietary restrictions: GREAT vegan options“
“One of the best in SD/convoy. Chef John owns both hidden fish omakase and this elevated Japanese izakaya and it hits the spot. You can order a la carte here and also get alcohol. They have everything seafood from scallops to pork belly rice bowl!!! The atmosphere is super calming and professional. The servers were very attentive and seemed like they knew what I needed at all times. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a fancy date night or with friends who want an ELEVATED IZAKAYA experience and for those who have good taste. 10/10 would come back again, & I heard they have a chef's course menu coming up so keep your eyes peeled!“
“A Fantastic restaurant and an instant classic. I will be back here many times. They specialize in Japanese curry and the menu is focused. They have all types of options - vegetable curry, seafood curry, squid curry, chicken or beef katsu curry. Don’t get the spicy teriyaki fried chicken though - it was neither spicy nor teriyaki flavored not crunchy. More of a weird butter flavored red sauce?I had the chicken katsu curry and the chicken katsu udon. Both were very good. You can also choose spice level and add many toppings. I recommend level 4 spicy if you want a mild but light spice, level 10 if you want actually spicy but still enjoyable. Beyond 10 I think it would overwhelm the curry flavor and just be spicy. To finish we had the pudding which was like a flan. Very very good and not too sweet. It was just the right amount of viscosity and chewiness with a light syrup.I highly recommend this place!“
“The Kobe roll is a #1 favorite! This is the first time I've had seared wagyu beef on sushi - and I was pleasantly satisfyingI dined in and had to go. To-go sushi is always a hit or miss, but I'm saying the sushi traveled well; quality did not suffer! When I dined in, we sat outside, I actually prefer the outdoor setting since you're right off a main street in downtown. Although, inside is available! This is a pretty classy sushi restaurant. Be ready to pay $20 for any special roll. But your taste buds will be pleased by the qualityVibe is nice-scale (not up scale) for a dinner date, although this could also be a casual place to go with friends.Parking could become a challenge depending on what time or day you go. I've been lucky to sang a spot a few times“
“We're from out of town, and this is probably some of the best sushi I have ever had. We came back the next day. The atmosphere was pretty chill and has a Pokémon theme. My son and I about craped our pants when we walked into the bathroom, they have fake spiders and bugs coming out of the vent, down the wall. It was funny afterwards lol. The staff is great, friendly and the place it clean.“
“Very nice food, service, and atmosphere. The yellowtail was fantastic, and many of their rolls are unique and interesting. Can highly recommend. One minor complaint: the skin in the salmon skin roll is deep fried instead of grilled or baked, so it loses its qualities of chewiness, and oiliness. It also results in salmon skin that is dried out, and flavorless.Parking: Small parking lot, but public street parking is plentiful.“
“We just moved to Little Italy area and we’re recommended Shino as the best local sushi spot. We went for dinner this past Saturday and I now understand why it was highly recommended! The sushi was incredible, the staff was quick and on point, and it was the best little spot for a great date night! We will be back and highly recommend for anyone looking for the best sushi joint in little Italy!“
“We came on a very empty stomach, excited to try Japanese food in San Diego. Parking was the usual busy in the plaza on a Sunday but since it was only 11 am, we quickly found spots. There wasn't a wait at all and we sat outside. Service was fine and while this spot feels more hole in the wall with its setup and ambiance, the food was yummy! He ordered the beef curry udon and I ordered the mentaiko udon. The mentaiko was so creamy and popping with flavor! Thought unexpected, I liked the mushrooms. Noodles were cooked just right and it was very filling. He enjoyed his dish too so good on all fronts for us! Will definitely come back to try other dishes!“
“Wow! The best sushi in town. It is best to make a reservation as this place isn't the biggest. But it speaks to its business, quality over quantity.Kid-friendliness: The service is top-notch. We were a party of 5, and they were quick to help clear emtpy dishes and fill our waters even before they were halfway. And they do this all with a smile.“
“What a cool spot! I’ve never seen anything like it on where I’m from on the east coast. The shop felt like a pizza or burger joint, it didn’t have the usual Asian restaurant feel that most sushi places have. Katy, the bartender was so friendly! There were 10 beers on top and the happy hour deal put the price of a beer to $4.50! What!?I ordered a rainbow roll and a hot hot roll. Everything was super fresh. The rainbow roll was delicious and beautifully presented. The outside of the roll alternated pieces of salmon, tuna, and avo sashimi style to create an alternating color “rainbow” pattern. It was a neat detail to an already great bite. The hot hot was fairly mild and tasty, would definitely order again.“
“My wife and I were in town for a conference, it was a little further from our hotel, but it got decent reviews so we thought we would try it. Man did it not disappoint! Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had, and the service was amazing! The food was much more affordable than it has right to be. I will be going back the next time I’m in town!“
“Ikuri sushi is deserving of each of these five star reviews. Incredible sushi made with obvious fresh ingredients, technique and care. The service is quick and the atmosphere is perfect for an intimate conversation or a nice solo date.I will recommend this place to anyone!“
“I have been here several times. The food and service are great!! Lots of different kind of fish flow in fresh from Japan. Always new selections! TJ and Masami are very nice and friendly people. I have been to all of the omakase restaurants in San Diego county and this place is way better then all of the others including the 1 star michelin restaurants!!Parking: Huge parking lot on convoy street. Very convenient!!“
“It's a very unassuming place. The ambiance in this bistro is suitable for a nice lunch or dinner date--no loud music. The staff and their service are very superb. I've been looking everywhere for a good mentaiko pasta similar to what I had in Japan - and I found the place! They're very affordable as well. I highly recommend it.“
“This place is one of my favorites in the list of hotpots. I have never tried their bbq because I have a favorite place for that but the hotpot is great and the options are as well. Totally recommended. It is a ayce. What else can you ask for?! You won't regret this place, and you'll totally come back.“
“Just a perfect find on our trip and stay in the gaslight district for business. Food was fresh and expertly prepared. The price was very fair in general, but especially considering the location. We tried other places before we ended up here, and then we just kept coming back. I think that says everything.Thank for the wonderful food and recommendations.“
“This place is nice! We went for dinner. The atmosphere was lively on a weekday, so I imagine it could get way busier on the weekend. I can understand why the pricing is a little on the higher side. The portions are decently sized and good quality. We did not order any nigiri or sashimi in exception to the Yellowtail Serrano. From the many things we tried, I would recommend the Akira Back Pizza and Rock Shrimp Tempura - not to say that the other items we ordered weren't delicious... it's just these 2 items are special enough to come back for.“
“We came here for sushi shortly after it opened in 2023. the interior decor is reminiscent of sushi houses in japan. for starters, we had shishito peppers (4/5), sea salt edamame (5/5), and garlic edamame (3/5). we followed these with a hatsukoi roll (5/5), gluten free chicken salad (3/5), spicy seafood udon (3/5), and tobkotsu ramen (4/5). oh, we also had spicy scallop handrolls (5/5). hot sake (5/5) was excellent. Service was good.“
“Not vegetarian and quite enjoyed it. Will go again.Vegetarian options: Decent selection. "Meat" choices are def veggie but not bad considering I'm carnivorous.Parking: Parking lot out front.lookslarge enough to accommodate lots of parking. Other business share. May get full night's and weekends.Kid-friendliness: Saw a couple families with younger kids who were happy as could be. A rush was on and the staff were pleasant and even joking with the kids.“
“Great owner, great food quality & tastes, but fix-its include: 1) sushi nigiri rice did not stick together so almost all our pieces made sadly fall apart with chopsticks or even gentle finger grip, 2) out of yummy lobster soup by 8:30pm, 3) sunomono needs simple rice wine vinegar sauce not overly hot & distracting spicy sauce, 4) needs to have simple Plum Wine by the glass or bottle (even cheap Takara from Berkeley good), 5) despite OT resy last resy times @ 8:45pm, the lady servers all HOUND you upon seating that now “last call for food as the kitchen soon closes”...how horrible, RUDE & UNGRACIOUS. The lovely & present owner Mitsu, a proud descendant of famed Mr. Ota) hopefully wants to make $$$ & welcome & keep his customers ? Special place, nonetheless.“
