“My team and I have worked behind the scenes along side of Brittany owner of Urban Organics and her team for several years.Their food is always beautifully presented, delicious, current and seasonal. What really impresses me is the owner Brittany herself. She is helpful, approachable, personable and communicates effectively and respectfully. She is the same way with her colleagues (like me). I have no doubt that she is that way with her clients. This is the type of person that you would want to do business with. Brittany will do everything in her power to ensure that you get the highest quality food and service that you deserve.A a matter of fact, I have Urban Organics listed on my website as my favorite woman owned local caterer.I would highly recommend Urban Organics for your next event!“

“My boyfriend and I always come here when we’re craving for something delicious and healthy. I order the same thing every time because it’s so good. 😅 The Salmon with Quinoa is my favorite! I should try something else next time because my bf have tried a few different ones and he always end up liking it. I also love the chocolate chip cookie! Wish they sell a pack of 12 😂“

“Stopped by here before work to get some donuts. I got the Ube and red velvet peppermint pretzel donuts. They both were amazing. The peppermint donut has actual peppermint candy pieces crumbled on top which made them sticky. The peppermint was very subtle not overpowering.“

“Ended up here because our first choice was booked. Glad we did. The manager was gracious and steered us away from ordering too much food. We started with Brussels and Mussels. Both were excellent and cravable. They brought extra grilled toast to soak up the broth from the mussels. That’s service. Nice selection of some reasonably priced glasses of wine that are food friendly. Meatballs are fine comfort food and recommend for the main. Do not sleep on this place.“

“What a great deli and store. I stopped in here randomly on a rainy day with a coworker. We each had a delicious bowl of soup and a piroshki and that was more than enough food for lunch. The borscht was very good. The people working at the store were very friendly and attentive. There are two small tables to sit and eat at. We didn't browse the market very much but I saw lots of interesting cookies, honey, meats, and other unique items. I'd highly recommend this place for lunch or some to go treats.“

“It was our first time here, and we loved everything we tried. We were seated right away later on a Friday night (8pm) and ordered roti and chicken satay for apps, and Tom Yum noodle soup, Beef noodle soup, yellow curry and a pad thai...and they were all good! I asked for medium spicey for the tom yum noodle soup and regretted it a bit so probably will order mild next time. The beef noodle soup had very tender beef, and the pad thai had great flavor.
Also ordered the mango sticky rice for dessert, and we all enjoyed it.
Parking is metered in the lot but readily available.“

“Always wanted to go to Lever. I work right near here, and I came here on New Year’s Eve.
It is a very cute coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating. Parking can be difficult as it is small and tight, but there is parking in the back.
The coffee was great here. Their lavender ice latte was amazing. I believe they are known for their syrups, and I also got to try their orange rosemary syrup. It was unique, but I think the safe bet is to go with the lavender syrup.
It can get very packed here, and they seem to have a smaller staff. Things could move slow, but be patient as it is worth the wait.
Parking: Limited space so look for parking outside the lot or in the back“

“I just discovered this GEM 💎✨
I was looking for a salad around Fruitvale and Ben’s Fast Food popped up in my search, it almost seemed to good to be true: healthy, balanced, fresh food and affordable??!!
Between the chicken mixed bowl and a cup of the dark chocolate cashew pudding I paid $14.22 with taxes. A few minutes after putting my order I got the notification that my food was ready for pick up. Parking was easy and my order was perfect: fresh, pickled, and steamed veggies, grains, tender and flavorful chicken and a creamy lemon thyme dressing. The pudding is decadent!
I will definitely be coming back!!
To Ben’s Fast Food: I only wish you gave an option to tip, I felt awful not tipping. Unless the employees make over $25 hr, please enable tips at check out 🙏🏾“

“This place serves joy by the cup and happiness by the bite. The coffee? Bold enough to turn any morning around. The tea? A perfect hug in a mug, no matter the weather. And the pastries? Golden, flaky bites of pure magic that might just ruin other desserts for you. The vibe is cozy, the staff is friendly, and my taste buds are still doing a happy dance. 10/10, would abandon my kitchen for this place again.“

“A new contender for the best kalamata olive bread (4/5 Green Stars). It’s Day 3 of Shelterfest, sponsored by Coronavirus, and I was feeling kinda satisfied (i.e., less guilty than yesterday) after making an earnest attempt to work remotely. So I took myself off for an afternoon stroll and, landing in the vicinity of College and Alcatraz Ave, decided to pick up some bread if there was any to be had. La Farine was quiet and there was plenty of bread left, even at 4 pm. (So pop in to support them if you’re in the area!) I usually get their rustic baguette but this time bought a loaf of olive bread. The servers were super friendly and one asked me if I wanted some free pastries. Ya-ha I did! I scuttled home with my bag of goodies and heated up one of the freebies – a chocolate croissant (toaster oven, bake for 3-5 min). The croissant doesn’t look that amazing, I have to admit, but it tasted wonderful. Buttery, flakey pastry and just the right amount of good quality chocolate. Later I had the bread – I’m a big fan of Semifreddi’s Kalamata olive bread so the bar was pretty high. I have to say that it was up there with my favorite bread – it was a little fuller than the Semifreddi’s loaf, but that wasn’t a bad thing as I sometimes feel that I’m eating a lot of air with the latter. In summary, I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed La Farine before because I’ve gone there many a time. I recommend the three things mentioned above and also their Irish soda bread is really good and pretty authentic. I just found out that La Farine started out in this location in 1977 – almost as old as I am, said Bilbo. I'm also giving La Farine 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • It seems that they use conventional white flour and organic whole wheat flour. • Their website is lacking on information on ingredient sourcing (compared to, say Acme). I’d like to know more about their flour, eggs, butter, chocolate, etc. • La Farine donates leftover products to area food banks and senior centers • They also support Bay Area schools and other local causes • Their bags are made from post-consumer recycled paper and printed with water-based inks. • Most of the menu is vegetarian and some of the breads are vegan. “My favorite Easy Bay cafes for working during lockdown - #1, Hudson Bay One of the things I miss the most during lockdown is having a place to get coffee and work for a while – yes, I know I’m not alone there ;) So I’m going to share my very favorite places to work during lockdown – i.e., cafes that have a fair amount of outdoor seating (and preferably decent Wi-Fi coverage too). The Hudson Bay café was a fairly regular haunt for me during normal times, and during lockdown it’s running pretty well with lots of safety precautions: Perspex screens, sanitizer, and a window counter if you don’t want to walk inside. Staff members were super-friendly as usual and there’s always good music playing (it’s faint outside, so I could just barely hear The Smiths and The Weeknd drifting out through the side door). One thing to note is that the prices are very reasonable – my veggie burrito cost an amazing $7 (or maybe $7.50) – and it had guac in there too! And it was big! I also had an oat milk latte and a slice of pound cake and the whole tab was around $14. For comparison, I paid the same amount at another place this week for a coffee, cookie and plain croissant. Lockdown Stats: • Seating: There are about 6 tables outside and chances are reasonable that you’ll get a spot. If you’re stuck without a seat you can hang out on a bench outside the library across the street. • Bathroom: Another good thing about going to Hudson Bay to drink a lot of coffee – the bathroom is open! It’s surprising how many cafés have no bathroom availability after selling you a big old cup of diuretic! • Hours: Note that they close at 5 pm at the moment, not 6, but they’ll let you linger till maybe 5:30. • Weather: Hudson St. faces southwest, so it’s often pretty warm, even around closing time! • Budget: As mentioned above, Hudson Bay is one of the cheapest places around (esp. on College Ave.) to get lunch. I’m also giving the Hudson Bay Café 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on this: • Very longstanding independent café and community gathering spot. • Coffee beans come from McLaughlin roasters in Emeryville - another East Bay staple. • Some of McLaughlin’s coffee varieties are organic and most are bought directly from cooperatives or family farms that support communities. • It kind of goes without saying that plant-based milks are available – and raw turbinado sugar too. • The menu is a bit more traditional but there are a few veggie and vegan options. I think they’ll also make veggie/vegan mods to a menu item, if you ask, since everything is cooked to order. • There’s not a lot of info available about Hudson Bay’s sourcing of ingredients – my feeling is that the owners want to keep things as unpretentious as possible. Since it’s lockdown I’m not going to bust their balls over it :D • Waste is minimized pretty well, even during lockdown when most places are loading on the plastic. “God-tier french butter croissants, quiches, and canneles de Bordeaux
Helpful staff that keep the line moving
Hard to believe the Bay Area's best croissants are not in Berkeley, Albany or San Francisco but are in fact behind the counter of a tiny bakery in Lafayette.
Go figure!“
