“The food is good but it's just not put together like the yosushi's in benicia.I only order the lion King. In benicia it's put together with two rolls and in Martinez is only one. The atmosphere is okay it's kind of small not meant to dine in as much because it's pretty small but overall it was a good place I ended up eating in the car.“
“Great lunch spot. The special is 2 rolls and they are huge and delicious. Service was friendly and fast. When it came time to split the check, she figured out how to charge according to what we each ordered and didn't even have to ask.“
“Instant favorite! Outstanding hole-in-the-wall establishment. Got 3 Uni as part of the generous sashimi lunch special. Fantastic fish protein quality, strongly competitive prices, lovely family-owned environment. Will go here again as soon as I'm nearby.“
“Great spot! They don't have the variety a fancy place might, but they put out good food and are always very friendly.Shima Aji is my absolute favorite and I almost never see it anywhere, but it was on their special board recently! Ordered 3, no regrets =P“
“AMAZING vegetarian & vegan restaurant!!(⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)❤️?I’ve been wanting to visit this place since my second year in Berkeley, and I’m glad I finally did!You can tell they made their food with great care and the ingredients are yummy and fresh! The staff are very nice; the vibe inside is clean and chill. This is a great place for you to hang out with a small group of friends or come alone to recharge your mental health (I mean seriously, their food is tasty, healthy, and pretty!)I’d definitely come back very often to try out all other creative cuisines! “
“This is the finest sushi restaurant I have ever been to. Their food is fresh and delicious. I’ve been coming here since 2008 and since my 1st visit have never been anywhere else. They are friendly and make you feel like family. I live in Vallejo CA and still travel to Pleasant Hill, CA for their food. Each time I have dined there I come out totally satisfied.“
“YOU HAVE TO COME VISIT IF YOU ARE A PICKY SUSHI EATER. It's a simple spot that looks like it's family owned, very unassuming but has the best sushi I had in the Bay Area for a while. Very fresh fish, reasonably priced, service is excellent. It's simply outstanding, please give them a try and you won't be disappointed! The sushi literally melts in your month IM NOT LYING TO YOU go“
“It’s a contemporary Japanese restaurant with an extensive menu. Decor is bright and cheery. Bonus points for big screens showing a winning Warriors game on the night we dined there! ? Personally I had the cheesy katsu on a sizzling hot plate which was quite a sight and tastes pretty good. My party had sushi and ramen which are ok but the broth is not complex flavor-wise. The draft beer in frosted mugs is refreshing and goes very well with the katsu. Service is friendly and lots of drink options from sake to soju to ramunes. Definitely something for everyone.Vegetarian options: There are options even for plant-based diets.Parking: Saw a couple of pay-per-use EV charging spots in the parking lot too. Probably J1772s.Kid-friendliness: Good menu options for kids and they provide little chopstick training widgets for a fun experience“
“I can't believe this place is in Orinda. It is an experience for sure, and be prepared to spend money if you go. Wonderful small sushi place owned by a husband and wife. It's traditional style and no chopsticks or rolls. The wife explains the sushi to you and it was so interesting. As others have said, you must make reservations as they only seat a couple of tables a night. We had the sake sampler and I highly recommend, especially if you're not familiar with sakes. The menu is fixed, no choosing and they bring you what's on their menu for the night. It started with the 18 piece and then you have the option to continue, we each had the 26 piece. The sauces, etc were all homemade and they tell you which ones you can use soy sauce with or not. Everything was delicious. It's definitely a hidden gem for special occasions.“
“This is the best spot for teriyaki! It is a small restaurant owned by a very sweet couple, so coming in here feels nice and cozy. I am not typical a fan of California rolls but the ones they provide with your meal are just wonderful. And I love that the teriyaki sauce is added after they have grilled your chicken, it gives it a very good taste. And the portions are very generous. Definitely a must try!“
“Very friendly service, good food, reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere. They do both Thai and Japanese menus including sushi and sashimi. Excellent value lunch deals during the week. I particularly like the yellow curry and orange peel chicken. My kids love the poke bowl.Vegetarian options: Most dishes are available with tofu in place of meat protein.“
“I ordered the Mushroom roll and as well as the vegetable gyozas and they were both amazing. It paired nicely with the green tea ? which was topped off periodically. I will definitely be coming back.Vegetarian options: Vegan sushi available“
“Actually delicious. We’ve had a lot of sushi in the east bay and this was easily the best takeout - fish was fresh, cuts were generous, and seasoning was interesting and delicious. A little expensive for normal sushi takeout in my opinion but a nice monthly treat! We’ll be back to dine in!Dietary restrictions: Gluten, dairy, egg free“
“Exceptional service, polite staff, clean & organized with the best prices around. The Lion king roll was the highlight of my day with the fried bananas for dessert. The spicy seared salmon was gloriously refreshing & the tamago was cut in a heart shape when a chef noticed my husband & I we're sharing every plate New favorite spot & I will be certain to tell everyone I know about this gem of a dining experience.P.S. TIP the staff more than a dollar, they're hard workers & truly deserve it since tips are split between so many efficient individuals.“
“I've been coming here for at least 25 years. The staff knows me and my family. The sushi is always fresh and not too much rice, which fills you up, so you can order more rolls! They have all the standard rolls and will customize them if you don't like certain fish. I like the sashimi combination, rose roll, black and white roll, and rainbow roll. They give you some cucumber and crab salad at the beginning of your meal for free. They have a few flavors of Mochi for dessert. They serve very quickly. It may take an hour or less most times we go.“
“Solid quantity and quality of food for its pretty reasonable price. Ordered a shrimp udon and though the noodles were not true udon, it was a solid quantity of food and came with six shrimp. And a bowl of miso soup. A nice environment too. Tastes pretty good.“
“Lunch at yet another eatery that was a stranger to me, I found this lovely gem occupying the old Taco Bell restaurant in Vallejo. Again, my wife and I entered, and the nostalgia flooded my brain, but was swept away by their menu and the smells of the food. I ordered the Teriyaki chicken plate, and my wife ordered the Teriyaki chicken Katsu plate, then an additional Dragon Roll and a vegetable tempura plate of sweet potato and broccoli. Got home and fell in love with the flavors and portions. Crunchy chicken tempura, flavorful chicken, sweet sauces, and the Dragon roll was to die for. Plenty for the next day, and a fresh take on establishments inside paddy establishments. I will definitely return here for more meals, and continue to post about them.“
“Food: Top notch sushi. If you want the luxury sushi experience, look no further. The chef himself studied and worked in Japan. Super intelligent man with a lot of knowledge about Japanese sushi. I highly recommend getting the fish of the day. It will blow your mind by how the fish melts in your mouth. If not, get any black cod dish. I get it every time I come here.Service: Awesome staff who hustles to please all customers. Cant thank them enough!“
“Never been disappointed with Matsuri’s food. They have great vegetarian options like the veggie udon and avocado roll. As well as their sides, the gyoza and steamed edamame are always cooked to perfection. The prices are great as well! Though I haven’t dined in before, the atmosphere does seem nice whenever I walk in. Highly recommend!“
“Enjoyed appetizer of their Special of the day- crab, jalapeno, cream cheese, fried and with crunch topping. Was good but jalapeño was raw, would have been great if jalapeño was par cooked in this deep dried roll. Raw was clunky.Great vegetarian options that were unique, especially the yummy yummy roll, vegetarian roll, Japanese pickles and side salad.Guest had bento box chicken teriyaki, chicken was dry, not great. California roll standard. The rolls were great but bento was not my cup of tea. You may like it.“
“2 of us dined there Valentine’s Day without reservations. The restaurant had many seats left, but the service was very slow. We waited a long time to order and get our food. It took over an hour to get our food. And the booth benches were very hard after waiting so long. The food was good though.“
“We would often find a reason to stop in Sacramento before we got a local Mikuni! It is hands down the best that you will ever enjoy! The Inredible Roll, the Freaky Edamame, 5 piece seared tuna appetizer and the DMC roll are our favorite go-to selections but honestly I don't think you can go wrong here! :)“
“tasty sushi burrito, interesting concept, no high end ingredients but still pretty good! ran in with my buddy to the commissary kitchen that has a lot of different restaurants as part of the group. Nice guys running the place, fun to talk to, decent semi-healthy lunch to grab and go!“
“Thank you, Tashi and Romeo, for hosting us. Your team did an amazing job. You made me and all my friends feel like family with your warm hospitality. Your accommodation and pleasant demeanor were truly appreciated. I can't wait to book our next big party with you in your beautiful location with great food.“
“New management makes ALL the difference! The hamachi nigiri was so fresh, and I loved my chicken udon soup - especially the broth. My teens loved their teriyaki beef bento box, and unagi Don. The only "miss" was on the easiest thing: the California rolls (which came in the bento box mix) were awful! Like worse than Safeway. How you can mess that up, I don't know. But even so, we'll be back to the new Serika!“
“Recommend the bento boxes with salmon and tempura vegetables, also the Alaska combo platter, and avocado rolls. The quality of the sushi and tempura vegetables were fresh. The place was very busy when we arrived. Thus I recommend arriving early or later or doing take out. Parking was very easy to find. Regarding what I think could have been taken to the next level: It cost roughly $72 to feed a family of two adults and two kids which is a high-end price for top quality especially without drinks. Locating this place for first time visitors can be challenging on the GPS due to its location within a strip mall and lack of signage near the street. Overall, I would recommend as a special occasion place to bring one's family.“
“Benicia has so many restaurant choices. This one is a must try! A small family owned Japanese restaurant for dine in and take out. You can sit at the small Sushi counter or at a table in the small dining room. The people are nice and friendly and they have a good selection of Sushi Rolls and other dishes. We made a reservation just in case. Free parking is on the street. Casual dining for family, business and date nights.Vegetarian options: vegetarian dishes are available.Kid-friendliness: They have kid friendly mealsWheelchair accessibility: no stairs“
“Update: if you love Udon cooked in its own broth, then you have to try it here! The rich flavor of the broth made this simple dish quite tasty along with it topped with various vegetable tempura. It only took them less than 10 minutes to make and made for a very quick treat for dinner!!!“
“I came here last year November and I loved it since then.I first tried their happy hour and I was not disappointed. The prices was very reasonable and the chefs choice sashimi was so delicious!I got two desserts. The Mochi coffee is fantastic as well.I look forward to come back again ?“
“Staff is friendly and patient - even though we came in about an hour before closing (lunch), our meal was still served with a smile, the food was good, and they didn't rush us out so we could dine at regular pace (we managed to run over only a few minutes)“
“We have been going to this restaurant for the last 12 years, at least 2 or 3 times or month. This place has good people who own it, hard working and noble employees, everyone is kind and their food is really good. I love that their food tastes delicious, fresh, safe and that is is highly comparable and often times better than that of much more expensive places. This is a great place to become a regular at, to go with family or to do take out.Our favorite dishes here:Rolls: tekka Maki, hamachi maki, Fuji mountain, Toyota special.Salad: sunomonoBest miso soup in townDelicious and a great value: white tuna tataki.Try their delicious hot tea... Whoever makes it here has the best ratio of water to tea I have ever seen!“
“Although it stated as Japanese restaurant it's actually is a Thai restaurant serving many different kind of Thai food. One particular entree that I would not order again was a Lamb rack dish cooked with curry. The lamb meats had no taste with little meat. It was disappointing. But my other orders were quite good. I liked their salmon eggroll dipped with Thai sweet sauce.“
“This is such an awesome little gem of a sushi restaurant. They have an amazing 10-piece sashimi deal for $19 And their ginger is quite possibly the best I've ever had. Next on my list to try at their restaurant is their salmon kama and hamachi kama.“
“There are so many good things to say about this place. The owner and staff are like family and always treat us with kindness. Sometimes there is a wait, but that is because everything is made from scratch. It is worth the wait and worth every penny. Fresh, authentic Japanese cuisine. I love this place!“
“I don't eat sushi so I can't comment on that. My bestie does and she loves this place. I love it too for their other items. Favorites are any teriyaki dish and the tempura is the best I've had. We regularly come here for lunch dates and I've never omce been disappointed.“
“We are diehard fans of Okini Sushi, since they were located on Pleasant Hill Rd. We always get a Chicken Katsu or Teriyaki Dinner Bento & a roll, or a bowl is Chicken Udon soup. I don't think there's any 'bad' order here - I also love their hot green tea (flavored with toasted rice).Service is exceptional; this is one of the local places I'd love to see around for decades.“
“Excellent, always the freshest food. Eaten at many others, but never had better. Pricing is fair, service is good & it's always clean. I'm partial to the red dragon rolls & tempura shrimp, but I've never had anything I thought was bad. Highly recommended.“
“I have to be honest with this spot, and to tell you the truth, you could actually this same kind of food anywhere. It didn't actually stand out as unique other than the fact that they have a varied menu. It's definitely serviceable and if you're hungry for a quick bite it's a decent go to. Maybe next time I'll try the ramen.“
“This place is a great place to have Japanese dons (rice bowls) as there's a variety of options. I've had the onyako don (egg and chicken) as well as the katsu don. A few times I've doordashed and other times I've ordered directly and all times service was great with quick service. Ambiance of the restaurant is good as well and it's more of a Togo place but does have dining area.“
“This place is the best. Quick service and deee-licious food. So many sushi rolls, so many good ones. And other stuff. Highly recommend. I've had eat-in, pick up, and delivery. So many hot dishes and soup, though, and fried, even! So eat-in is best. Oooo the bbq eel. Ooo, the sashimi!! Lots of ice cream & Deep Fried sweet treats. Always plenty of staff, and food is fairly quick. But often busy, so be prepared. But you won't even be able to read through all the sushi rolls before you get to front of line, lol. Great food, Good service, very clean, inside tables and lots of windows, & outside shaded eating area. What more could you ask for?“
“The sushi was amazing! Loved the quality of food. Here is my ONLY complaint: they had offered miso soup when I had sat down and I thought it was free. They ended up charging me 3$ for the soup when the bill came. This somewhat bothered me because I wasn't warned or else I wouldn't have gotten it. Otherwise, the food and the service is great. Recommend people to try this place out!“
“Most of the food is good , some are misses. To start: take wasabi - yes, yes, yes! Really good and the portions are generous. Fried octopus was fresh and nice. We didn't like hotate scallop , because they just poured mayo all over it.Ugh, who does it to the Hokkaido ones!! But then they fixed it with Hamachi Kama, the cheek was perfectly cooked, fresh and the sauce was amazing. All in all - an amazing neighborhood izakaya. Maybe not worth a drive from SF, but if you're here - it's a good place to visit.“
“Okay I have been thinking to visit this place so I finally did. Restaurant was huge. There was so much empty table when we came in which saddens me. Food was surprisingly delicious. I never finished my bento but I did! Holy moly it was freshly cooked and good pricing! Decent amount! I totally recommend this place! I shall come visit again! Thank you.“
“We both ordered the bento box lunch special. I had 2 orders of vegetable tempura and my wife had the gyoza and sashimi. They charged extra for the sashimi but it was a large serving, thick cut and deep red. I asked for more rice and they charged for it which I thought a bit unusual. Overall very good food at a reasonable price. We would go back.“
“The sushi is by far the best in the East Bay. Most importantly I trust the freshness of all the fish. Over several years we have ordered almost every sushi roll on the menu. I have loved each. One of my favorites is Dragon roll and theirs is the best I have had. I have ordered take out and it is just as good as eating in. All the vegetables used are fresh and the broccoli tempura gives broccoli a good name. All the tempura vegetables are fresh. My husband loves the bento box too. The staff people are kind, efficient and attentive. The bill may be a little high but the end product makes it reasonable. The bottom line is freshness and care. Blue Ginko, Lafayette does the very their very best.“
“Visited November 12, 2023A Japanese ramen restaurant located in downtown Walnut Creek. I live in Walnut Creek, but Vietnamese pho and Japanese ramen restaurants are rare, so I wanted to try warm soup, so I found this Japanese ramen restaurant online. There is a cooking kitchen and a few tables inside the store, but the space is somewhat narrow. There were about 4 to 5 ramen menu items. I wanted to eat spicy tonkotsu ramen, but it was a bit disappointing that the spiciest item on the menu was limited to tantanmen. I soothed my disappointment by adding spicy sauce to the regular tonkotsu ramen at the table. The food is cooked and served immediately after ordering, but there are a lot of pick-up orders during lunch time, so it may take some time. The ramen broth and toppings are a bit oily. The pork loin was quite thick and had a lot of fat, so I personally found it very unpleasant. However, there was Asahi beer as a draft beer, and it was refreshing and delicious. The karaage was warm and delicious. I don’t really recommend ramen.“
“Tried this place for a work lunch, so I had the meal to-go. I got the salmon teriyaki lunch bento box with mixed tempura. The lunch portion is decent. The salmon was maybe a little bigger than fist size, but it was thin and it didn't have enough teriyaki sauce for my liking. I'm still trying to figure out what some of these Japanese restaurants use for their salad dressings because I really like it. I also liked that the meal came with edamame and about 5 pieces of mixed tempura. I love shrimp tempura and I love that theirs had a good ratio of shrimp to breading. The miso soup was good too, not overly salty.“
“Been coming here, and ti the original restaurant all my life. Haven't had a bad day here yet! Love the owner! He always greets everyone and ALWAYS delivers on the sushi. FOOD IS GREAT. I suggest letting him freestyle on a sushi roll for you! Best decision I ever made.“
“I can't believe I have lived in Lafayette for over three years and just discovered this place. In summary one of the very best Japanese restaurants I have eaten in, as good as anything I have had in Japan.Went for lunch. Started the meal with hot saki and toro sushi; outstanding, even the ginger and wasabi served with the sushi was outstanding. My wife had the sushi sampler with salad, I had the grilled miso sea bass with miso soup and rice. Everything was beautifully cooked, presented and tasted fantastic. As an added bonus, the food was served on what looked like a Japanese version of Heath pottery, nice touch. The restaurant decor is bright and tasteful. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Total cost for this amazing lunch was only $70, plus tip. Like Arnold said; "I will be back"!You may have noticed all my reviews to date on Google have been 5 star, this is deliberate. Life is too short to focus on that which does not make us happy. This is why I restrict my reviews to those things/places/services that make me happy and appreciate life. Sure, I have been to some really dreadful shops, hotels and restaurants etc., but, like I said, life is too short to spend time thinking and writing about them.“
“Ordered the katsu & garlic rice. Great customer service on the phone. They were very kind and patient with order taking and giving good directions. Katsu was some of the highest quality I've had in a while. Super thin crispy breading with white meat chicken. Very delicious and the garlic rice paired well. Good flavor and cooked to perfection. Fire“
