Restaurantji's National City Mexican restaurant picks are here.
“This was my first time at this restaurant. I was with a friend so it was a party of two. It is a small restaurant. Clean and airy. It has outside seating as well as inside. Staff were very cheery and greeted us when we walked in. If eating there, sit down at an open table, and they will come and take your order. For take out order at the counter. We actually went for the Chili Reyano as a friend told us it was very good. We were just a little late as someone had gotten there earlier and bought them out for the day. We will be going back again to get it.I had 5 rolled tacos with shredded pork. They were very good and fresh. (I had to order guacamole separate.) My friend had a carnitos barrito and really liked it. Neither items came with any sides (beans and rice), but the servings were so big they were not needed. Both of us ended up taking part of it home.I really enjoyed my visit and recommend it. I will be going back.“
“The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable but the food was not as I expected, especially the burritos. Did not expect a borderline burrito at SD price, wild. But that was my bad I should have checked. Plus no place to study, cool spot to talk to and drink coffee tho.“
“Well rated Mexican & Guatemalan eatery in a National City strop mall. You could almost miss this place because it looks like a small takeout w a funny name, but it is worth the stop. We had a very healthy Veggie omelet w house potatoes & (buttery) pancake side along w a bowl of Oatmeal & a skillet breakfast. Everything was tasty & delicious. Great salsas too, red & green. Lots of new stuff on the menu that I want to try when I go back!“
“Oh my goodness... It is not fair that I didn't have money to buy more. This was legitimately the best taco I've ever had. I want another one! Or three! Or maybe five! I definitely want more. I gotta make sure to hold on to $21 for their combo next week.“
“Went to the Market on 8th for a late lunch, The place was not busy, but I had to park a block away, parking is better at night.I had the brisket plate from Butcher Shop, very good, tender and the potatoes were very good. My wife had the Chicken Karage Rice Bowl, very good flavors.“
“Their seafood is so good, I always come or order from DoorDash if you love seafood I recommend this place, try their aguachile is so good, it’s has so much flavor.Parking: Parking is not hard to find there’s plenty of spaces to park wether it be in the street or in the parking lot they have.“
“The food is delicious, good service, local. I usually get the pupusa revuelta and the spinach with cheese. The curtido is pickled cabbage mixture that adds flavor to the pupusa if you'd like. I enjoy it on top mine. They set up a food truck at the National City Swapmeet as well on weekends if you want a bite to eat while digging for treasures. ?“
“We rented their venue space located adjacent to the main serving area and had them cater the reception to our wedding. Less than 20 people. The quality of food and service were unbeatable. Gabriella went above and beyond to ensure that we had a wonderful time. Would highly recommend for either catering or for renting the space. We rented the venue space located next to the main service area and asked them to cater our wedding reception. Less than 20 people. The quality of the food and service were unbeatable. Gabriella went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. I would highly recommend whether for catering or renting the space.Kid-friendliness: Catered to numerous children and young adults“
“This place was so good! It's not very big The food was very fresh and the portions were bigger than I expected :) We got the special tostada and aguachile. The restaurant didn't look very big but it had a constant flow of people. I saw a lot of people come get takeout so that would be a convenient option. They had these aguas de fruta and it was frozen and blended. It was so yummy!“
“Definition of hole in the wall but that's part of its charm. One word - barbacoa. It's FANTASTIC. Perfectly spiced, juicy. One of the best tacos I'd had in a while. Carnitas were pretty good too. Fish weren't great, I wouldn't get again. But I will def be back for that barbacoa. A heads up, salsas at the bar are good but all quite spicy. Carrots there are delicious!“
“Pozole was great! Very tasty. My husband liked his Menudo but has had better. We waited about 20 minutes to be called to a table. The place was very busy. The location is on the small side, but I think it's part of the charm. Very family friendly. Staff was welcoming and helpful. They have a serve yourself area with condiments, salsas, and limes for your food. Would definitely go back if I'm in the area.Parking: Street parking in the front was a bit difficult. You have to find a spot as soon as someone pulls out.“
“Raspados Are really good. The vanilla one is amazing. what I really do appreciate is the fact that they fill it up halfway and they put lechera in the middle, and then they add the lechera on top as well. It's the Lil things. Will be coming back :)“
“I give this place 4 stars ONLY cuz I've yet to try much of its menu. Otherwise it'd be a 5. However, what keeps bringing me back here is their Chicken Chipotle Nachos. O' mah goodness, they're so freakin' good, for reals! Chips topped with nacho cheese, Chipotle chicken, Chipotle sauce and jalapeños, bro... delicia! Add a li'l of that red salsa they give you and *chef's kiss* Lol! I would've taken a picture but I attacked them nachos like an inmate in the yard. Lol! Tortas I've tried, too, were real good. Ham, de Lomo and asada. Very inexpensive too, might I add! I highly recommend Tortas Oasis.“
“This is such a little gem. Their birria is authentic and sooo goooood! Their service is always fast and the ladies are so nice. I am always in a hurry and they get my order super fast. Portions are big so I always order the half birria plate with beans. Or two birria tacos and a consomé. Every time I go in, the birria tastes the same, which makes me very happy. This location closes at early, like at 7pm so keep that in mind.“
“Service was good. Food was really good but I had one little problem. The toddler size salsa with the baby spoon.... Like I get it if u don't wanna waist food but if your gonna serve a big bowl of chips you gotta have enough salsa for them I'm just saying, but I appreciate the hospitality great food and clean establishment thank you.“
“Stopped here for lunch atmosphere gray the people were not rude and the food was delicious. I ordered fish soup because I don’t feel good and it made me feel better, so thank you guys anybody looking for a great place to eat real quick this would be it.“
“Holy abodaba! It's delicious and definitely gotta get the spicy salsas to go with the abodaba. Whether you stuff it in a taco or burrito or quesadillas, you need this abodaba in your tummy and you'll come back for more. I'm pretty sure they marinated the abodaba in liquid crack cuz I can't stop eating it.“
“I am an ongoing customer. Been going here for about 2 years now. Love the food but this is the 6th time in a row my order has been ruined and I always ask for the same thing. Please tell them how to cashier properly. If I order 12 rolled tacos special #2 and if I want the cheese and guacamole separate then I better get exactly what I ask for. Not 2 small tacos, not soggy rolled tacos. The thing I absolutely hate the most is ordering something, paying for it just to get home and it's completely wrong or that I won't get refunded for their mess up. For food, that's an expensive mess up.“
“Beautiful environment and active as well so nice to eat and watch everything happen and very delicate as in the owner pays attention to detail and how the food is served. It’s not even an expensive place to eat. The food taste so good. I can’t believe I didn’t come here before.Kid-friendliness: Made food specifically for 9 month old. Soup de Fideo. One egg. And beans.“
“Take lots of cash because this place is pricy !!And they do CASH ONLY, they also have an ATM machine just in case you don’t have cash on you..place is spacious and they have sitting area outside too. We shared the tostilocos, which was good, a little tooo salty but good. We also tried the chamango which I would recommend. It’s the perfect mixture or sour & sweet. And we tried 3 scoops of ice cream, bubulubu, abuelita & pistachio. All tasted really good. Staff is always friendly and courteous. So the high price is well deserved, they serve you quality items. They have a big menu, so go on an empty stomach!!And even though they’re prices are high, they are worth every penny !“
“Who doesn't love Mexican food? On a cold day it was inviting to enjoy a hot Fish Burrito. It's a large burrito. I ate only half. My first time ordering this dish. The hot sauce was ? great. Got the Habanero and mixed it with the mild. Then later just used the Habanero.I like spicy!!! And it Rocked!!!“
“The service is good, they don't take long to deliver your food even when there are many people, they take little time compared to other placesParking: It is close to the vehicle, it does not take even 15 steps to get from the vehicle to where they serve.“
“Been here twice so far. The first time was just on a whim to find a quick bite to eat but I was astonished at how good it was I hyped it up to my wife to try. To make sure that it wasn't just because I was hungry that day and it was as I remembered I took her here, and I can confirm its honestly one of the best burrito/taco shops around.I can honestly recommend their California burrito to anybody and know that they'll enjoy it - not to mention it's hugeee. It's filled with carne asada, fries, pico and sour cream.Their crispy tacos are amazing and can recommend the shredded beef taco as a great addition to the burrito. The only downside is that their parking lot consists of 3 spots - 6 if you squeeze cars in and can be a bit of a hassle to park but it shouldn't discourage you from trying this place out.“
“This place is so good they give you your moneys worth ! My favorite is tacos de cabeza and carne asada fries ! When I'm telling you I won't buy carne asada fries anywhere else I'm being so serious ! Fries are always crispy and the meat is so flavorful. Everyone is also very nice and and best part is that they have a drive thru if you're in a hurry !“
“As a native San Diegan, this is the hole in the wall place that I have always kept secret. In my personal opinion, this is the best place to get a taco. My usual order is the carnitas plate. The staff is super friendly and you won't find a better place that serves fresh beans and rice with your main entrée.“
“Al Pastor Town truely lives up to their name as they offer 5 unique types of Al pastor meats and more. I was there when they opened at noon and got the Al Pastor Roio Burrito.Service was pretty slow but the staff were great. Eventually, I got the burrito and took the most blissful first bite. The burrito was packed with meat where every bite caused juices to come gushing out and cover every taste bud. Just when I thought it couldn't get better, I tried using their 2 sauces: salsa verde (not very spicy) and what I think is mango habanero (spicier). The owner really played matchmaker because the burrito and the sauces was a complete match. 5/5 I'll need to come back and try the rest of the flavors.Atmosphere was great imo but is not for everybody. The place is inside a mart and is not really a place to sit down and dine.“
