“I recently visited a bakery and tried their croissants and brownies. Both were incredibly moist and flavorful. The croissants had a perfect flaky texture, and the brownies were rich and decadent. Highly recommend this place“

“Balboa Island Baking Company is the embodiment of what a cute, local, and utterly delicious bakery should be.

Walked in for the first time today, and was immediately greeted with a smile and kind service. After asking for recommendations (and realizing we missed the cinnamon rolls and sticky pecan rolls, sadly), I got the pecan roll pieces bag, a strawberry scone, and a coconut almond scone. It all blew me away.

First of all, the pecan roll pieces. They warm them up for you, and it is gooey, sweet, cinnamon-y heaven in a bag. I could not stop myself from grabbing bite after bite. If you are the kind of person who loves the center of a sweet roll, then this was made for you, my friend. Next is the strawberry scone with its delectable glaze. The scone itself is a perfect texture, and somehow infused with that fresh, strawberry flavor we all know and love. Finally is the coconut almond scone, also a perfect texture. While not as sweet as it's fruity sister, it has great flavor and I love how much coconut is studded throughout.

So, if you want a little sweet treat to start your day with the bonus of supporting a local gem, then be sure to visit asap!“

“Must stop if in the area!! Definitely get the hippo cookies. Best cookies I have ever eaten. The frozen banana was very good as well. Also the Balboa Bar is very good too. Both frozen treats come with lots of options to customize to your preferred taste. It’s more of a grab and go place for snacks, so no seating. Employees were very kind, helpful, and fast. Will definitely come again if we are in the area.“

“Waaaaaay BETTER than Sugar and Spice! Too Sweet / Tutti Fruity uses real chocolate as opposed to Sugar and spices non dairy milk chocolate? We drove 40 minutes and made the mistake of getting our frozen bananas at sugar n spice but were disappointed in their milk chocolate. Super thin and no chocolate taste.

Stopped in at Tutti Fruity / Too Sweet to see what their chocolate covered frozen bananas were and HANDS DOWN! AMAZING! Thicker chocolate and the chocolate actually tastes like delicious chocolate!

“I have been coming here for years. I love their donuts, chocolate croissants and also the #4 for a breakfast bagel (which is an everything bagel with egg, cheese and bacon). They have a wide variety of donuts. They also have a fridge full of drinks as well as freshly brewed coffee. You're guaranteed to find something you like for the whole family. Their customer service is also top notch. They're so kindly and friendly!“

“You know a bakery is good when you haven’t even left yet and you’re already going back inside to buy another pastry. That was us at Chaupain Bakery—and the culprit was a strawberry envelope I’m still thinking about.
From the moment we walked in, Chaupain felt like a place where both the pastries and the people make you want to return. My eyes immediately went to the gorgeous glass case overflowing with pastries, and since it was our first visit, I had the nearly impossible task of deciding what to try. Meanwhile, my husband ordered the Jambon sandwich and their seasonal pumpkin cheesecake.
As I stared at the case trying to narrow down my choices, I told the gentleman helping me, “I want to try the things that will make me come back.” It turned out I was talking to one of the owners, Sami—and he absolutely understood the assignment.
Sami’s hospitality was one of the highlights of our visit. He was warm, welcoming, and genuinely interested in helping us experience the best of Chaupain. He took the time to answer my questions, talk us through the pastries, and offer recommendations without ever making us feel rushed. There’s something special about meeting an owner who is not only proud of what they’ve created, but also clearly cares about the experience people have when they walk through the door. That warmth carried through the entire service—friendly, attentive, and welcoming from beginning to end.
With Sami’s guidance, our pastry lineup included the almond croissant, pistachio croissant, palmier, and strawberry envelope.
The Jambon sandwich was delicious. The saltiness of the ham and cheese marries perfectly with the fresh-baked bread. Simple, classic ingredients done incredibly well.
The seasonal pumpkin cheesecake was smooth and creamy with just the right amount of tang to balance the sweetness. Every bite makes you want just one more.
Ever since returning from Paris, we’ve been searching for croissants that can transport us back to those little Parisian boulangeries. Chaupain came pretty darn close—but surprisingly, it wasn’t a croissant that completely stole my heart.
It was the palmier!
Flaky, buttery, delicate, with that perfect caramelization and crispness around the edges—this palmier had me seriously second-guessing whether the croissant is even my favorite French pastry anymore. It is an absolute MUST TRY.
But then came THE STAR OF THE SHOW—the stop-the-presses pastry: the strawberry envelope. Perfectly flaky and airy pastry, lightly dusted with powdered sugar and filled with a smooth, light custard and fresh sliced strawberries. The buttery pastry, silky custard, and freshness of the strawberries come together in this incredible explosion of flavor and texture without being overly sweet or heavy. It was so good that I finished it…and went right back inside to buy another one.
And really, that sums up our first visit to Chaupain. I walked in and asked Sami to point me toward the pastries that would make us come back. Between his genuine hospitality, the wonderful service, and some seriously memorable pastries, mission accomplished!
We will definitely be back and we will be bringing our family!“

“I just went in to get a cinnamon pretzel. As I walked through the door this young kid with dark hair and glasses came running to greet me. He made my night, he was so cute. He looked very excited to welcome me and he was so over the top nice he made me laugh. It wasn't just to me either, a couple walked in behind me and he was just as thrilled to help them as well. Such a good employee!“

“Hi Pandor. My local Nisa store has started to or maybe for a while,, stocking your loaths. One particular one I've tried so far is what they refer to as the Granny Brown. Has a sort of nutty flavour and is like a full whole meal although rustic style small bloomer. It's my new favourite and a Son of a baker, let me complement you on a nice shop loaf. I wondered however. The paper bag with a transparent window, says it's 100% recyclable. I then to tear the plastic/transparent window out of bakery etcsemi paper bags and seperate transparent to landfil and paper to compost. Although I'd like to know is the peper suitable for compost. I wonder what makes the transparent window recyclable, so I can check with my local council if their recycling systems/contractors have the means to recycle it, before I tear it apart. What is the the transparent window made of if not plastic? Thanks“
