“I visited this store for the first time on March 5. Sam greeted me and immediately built rapport, making me feel so comfortable. I hope his manager realizes what a great employee he is. After I'd ordered my sandwich, he asked if it was my first time there, and he offered me a free pastry of my choice. How exciting! I chose the item that looks like a Napoleon, but the layers are not made of puff pastry (which was disappointing). The cream was delicious, and I enjoyed it immensely. It just wasn't as light an fluffy as I imagined it would be. And attempting to cut into it resulted in a squished dessert.

The vegetarian sandwich was one of those sandwiches that defies the ability to eat it like a regular sandwich. It was a roll so stuffed with veggies and a yummy pistachio sauce (I added fresh mozzarella for protein), I'd have had to unhinge my jaw to take a bite out of it. Since I was eating in public, I chose to be a bit more civilized. ;) I managed.

“Good and convenient place to get Crumbl cookies, if you like them. Closes an hour later than most other ones (at 11p.m.) so if you're craving late night cookies, then this should be your go-to for gourmet style cake like cookies. Otherwise, just go to Mcdonalds, hehe.“

“They were very responsive to emails. I first filled out web inquiry and got a reply on the same day. They were booked for tasting appointment very fast so make sure you contact them early as they only have appointments available during the week Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays between 1pm and 6pm. Saturdays from 9am-4pm. The tasting appointment was an hour long and it's FREE!!! Some other places I looked at will charge you for tasting and even though the tasting charge might be deducted from final order, it made me feel much better when there was no cost to start with as wedding was already expensive. The place was a little bit hard to find since it was office-like looking from outside and I thought it was bakery-like. They have parking lot. My husband and I tried so many different favors of cake and they were so delicious. We had a hard time deciding which ones to get because we had more than three favorite. During the appointment, they also showed you what style of cake they offered and its pricing. We went with the basic so there was no add-on cost, but they can custom-make your order if you show them pictures of what you want with additional cost (and trust me the price is fair). We ended up ordering a 3-tier ice in white buttercream cake with 12" white with mango, 9" almond with cappuccino & chocolate mousse, and 6" mocha chip with rosy mauve ribbon around tiers for 100 guests for my wedding. They emailed us a week before the wedding to confirm there was no changes and the order was correct. The cake was delivered on time and was decorated with fresh flowers my florist provided on site by the delivery staff. (If you have cake topper, you can either drop it off to the shop or have it installed on site by delivery staff. Either way, you need to let them know in advance so they can make sure your cake is structurally stable for the cake topper weight.) My wedding cake looked pretty and it tasted good. I received lots of compliment from the guests. On the side note, they would charge you more if you use American Express credit card. And you only need to pay deposit on the site but they don't have online system for you to pay the remaining online. Since we didn't have cake topper to drop off and did not want to make another trip just to pay the balance, we paid it in full the same day of tasting. This would be two suggestions for improvement, but they still deserve a 5-star for their service, the quality (taste/look), and the friendly price. Ohh and did I mention that you do receive a complimentary one year anniversary cake? That's for sure a big PLUS since my husband and I were too busy to have our own wedding cake at our wedding. We are very looking forward to our one year anniversary! All you need to do is to contact them 3 weeks prior to your one year anniversary to place the order. Give them the date of your wedding and the name the order is under and they will pull up your file and place the order. Yup it's 3 weeks, not 2 weeks. They are definitely getting busier and that's how good they are! If you are still looking for wedding cake or cake for any event, this is where I would recommend.“

Her cheese cakes are out of this world! Especially her Mars cheese cake is absolutely one of a kind. You have to try it to believe how delicious they are. Banana lovers, you must try her chocolate chip banana cake! It’s so yummy 🤤 Also as a person Shadi is as sweet or I should say truthfully sweeter than her Sweets 😉 She is always smiling and so pleasant to work with. “Poul’s Bakery took our breath away , we couldn’t believe the cake we have taken pictures from we have searched the internet images and sent it to her the custom cake we wanted , and not only she made the identical one ,the taste was so delicious actually finished the entire slice, it’s rare for me to eat the whole slice, as many cakes are made with to much sugar , it overwhelms to entire cakes other ingredients, this was so perfectly balanced ,and l asked for second , so did few guests , we as host wished we ordered the bigger size , we don’t like the buttercream topping due to its excessive sugar , we ordered her soexisl topping , while you others ask no buttercream but we want Poul’s Bakery special topping we heard so much about it , sorry l don’t remember what it was called . “Balboa Island Baking Company is the embodiment of what a cute, local, and utterly delicious bakery should be.

Walked in for the first time today, and was immediately greeted with a smile and kind service. After asking for recommendations (and realizing we missed the cinnamon rolls and sticky pecan rolls, sadly), I got the pecan roll pieces bag, a strawberry scone, and a coconut almond scone. It all blew me away.

First of all, the pecan roll pieces. They warm them up for you, and it is gooey, sweet, cinnamon-y heaven in a bag. I could not stop myself from grabbing bite after bite. If you are the kind of person who loves the center of a sweet roll, then this was made for you, my friend. Next is the strawberry scone with its delectable glaze. The scone itself is a perfect texture, and somehow infused with that fresh, strawberry flavor we all know and love. Finally is the coconut almond scone, also a perfect texture. While not as sweet as it's fruity sister, it has great flavor and I love how much coconut is studded throughout.

So, if you want a little sweet treat to start your day with the bonus of supporting a local gem, then be sure to visit asap!“

When we realized this location was closing in 10 minutes, we were hesitant to go in because the young lady was sweeping the floor. I work in a service industry as well so I understand how 'last minute' guests can be 😉. She was quick to make eye contact with us as soon as we walked in. She also stopped cleaning right away to service us with a smile. I called the Laguna Niguel location off of Aliso Creek and La Paz to inquire about whether or not that specific cookie would be on the menu.
The staff member I spoke to (Sam) was very friendly and informed me that they had recently made a “twist” to the classic Chocolate Chunk cookie, combining it with another one of their signature cookies the Semi Sweet Chocolate Chip Cookie. “Was by the beach this day and decided to go into Balboa. There are a few frozen banana places in Balboa but this place caught my eye because they also sold hippo cookies (I bought one is not pictured).

The chocolate bananas are great for a hot day. They have a lot of fun coatings you can do. We did the Oreo and the everything coating. The hippo cookie was also very good. Definitely would come again.“

“While I have yet to try the bagel portion of this place I'll say their smoothies pop like no other. I love a nice strong fruit flavor when I order a smoothie of any kind and wanted to treat myself after a long work week. Ended up going for the solid uber eats deal and got two smoothies for 15 bucks. Overall taste popped, it actually came with a carrier (which is a low bar surprisingly with smoothie places doing online orders nowadays) and solid for the size given. I'd love to go in again someday soon and try the rest of their menu.“
