“Beautiful property. Delicious Cabernet. Herb and Deb Rowland are the keepers of a fascinating trove of Novato history“
“Though this is NOT where they grow the wines, this is HQ for the cellars. I've come to know Terry Leighton after reading a lengthy article about him, and establishing a line of communication by email, and then telephone. A phenomenal intellect with an artist's grasp of what grapes and winemaking are about, it is no surprise he's involved in making the world class wines coming out with the Kailin Cellars Label. To date, I've greatly enjoyed old bottles of Chardonnay, Semillon, and Pinot Noir. Not really predisposed to enjoy Pinot Noir, it has been nice to find that I quite enjoy those of Kailin Cellars. If you're lucky enough to have some of this wine, and have a handle on acquiring some of the limited quantities when they trickle out - you're indeed a fortunate person! HIGHLY recommended!“
“Down to earth setting, casual and relaxing allowing for a great place to sit, enjoy wine and have a conversation. The Merlot is by far my favorite. As it has plenty of character, and an amazing finish.“
“Another winery recommended we visit this winery in Sonoma because of it's story, culture, and quality. Six of us did and it did not dissappoint. Jimmy did a wonderful job of sharing the family history, as well as the history of the winery. He also recommended great wines for us to sample and consider for purchase. I'm glad we availed ourselves to learning about how our Mexican brothers worked the fields, learned the business and became and expert, purchased land, started his on winery, and served two U.S. Presidents (Obama and Bush) and the California Gov (Swarzenegger). Oh, the wine is GREAT!“
“We came here last minute on our anniversary wine tour and they welcomed us with open arms. The wine, atmosphere, pizza and service were excellent. Christian was serving us and did a phenomenal job. The entire experience was outstanding and we highly recommend. The sparkling was a nice surprise as well.“
“What a great experience and place to visit. Invite only or for work, you will be treated very well by all staff and the property is absolutely beautiful. Art Museum had lots of Original artwork and the whole property is full of awesome Movie Paintings. Gift shop is really cool. Again, what a place to get a chance to visit, thanks to all the great staff that made us feel at home!!!“
“My wife and I have been to Schug several times over the past 10-15 years: it's a must-visit winery whenever we're in Sonoma.
If we go with friends we usually get a tasting. The tasting room is small but comfortable. If you do a cave tour you'll enjoy one of several spacious tasting rooms scattered throughout the cave. Whether it's unreasonably cold outside or scorching hot, the cave is always a comfortable temperature.
If it's just the two of us we usually grab a bottle and hang out under the trellis outside one of the cave entrances. It's a gorgeous setting and the trellis provides just enough protection from the sun that you can comfortably enjoy the outdoors and the beautiful scenery.
They are known for their pinots, but we like their chards just as much. It's an absolutely wonderful place to visit with friendly and genuinely good-hearted people working there.
On this visit we brought our adult children for their first Sonoma wine tasting! Theresa gave them an experience they'll never forget. It was like she was a part of the family. The conversation was so enjoyable we had to delay our next winery tour; we just couldn't walk away. Thank you Theresa!“
