Sonoma Portworks Winery • $$
613 2nd St, Petaluma

“The Sonomic Gold and Sonomic Red vinegars are delicious. They are made of 100% grapes, as is uthentic Italian balsamic vinegar made from 100% grape must. Having been to Modena, Italy and tasted the real deal, I can say with some authority that this is the closest any vinegar has come to balsamic. Sonomic is a little sweeter, but almost as thick and delicious. It is good drizzled on foods. I like to make my own salad dressings with EVOO, Sonomic, some Italian herbs and a little water - deliciouso!“

“We stopped in while on vacation to do a tasting. It's a great stop with some delicious wine. I was surprised to really enjoy the Rose and Zin as I'm not usually a fan of those types of wines. But very thrilled.Nice tasting room in town, parking is a bit funky but not terrible. Lovely group of ladies working today, and knowledgeable.“

Petaluma Cheese Shop / Barber Cellars Winery Winery • $$
112 Washington St, Petaluma

“What's better than cheese and wine? Nothing!! The Petaluma Cheese Shop and Barber Cellars has an incredible selection of cheeses from all over, and amazing boutique wines. If your lucky, you get to meet and spend time with the owners, Mike and Lorraine. Aside from making incredible wines, they're cheese nerds. We went from a single visit to making this our regular Thursday afternoon hang.“

Stubbs Vineyard Wineries • $$
1000 Marshall Petaluma Rd, Petaluma

“Stubbs Vineyards is high on a mountain top just over the Marin County line from the town of Petaluma. Winds stream in off the Pacific through this region the way they flow into San Francisco most afternoons, laden with a dominant marine layer and the chill off the Pacific. There are really only two wines that thrive in this climate. In fact, by comparison, the famous Napa/Sonoma Carneros Appellation is a good deal warmer. The soil here is rich and imparts the kinds of qualities you would expect to find in finest areas of Burgundy. We were actually looking for something unique, within an hours drive of downtown Sonoma's Plaza and as I combed through listings of small wineries near Petaluma, California I clicked on the Stubbs Vineyard website, which is ironically not in Sonoma County, OR Petalums.Mary Stubbs and her husband purchased the property in the 1980s without a single structure on it. They set about building their home on the property from scratch. The architectural wonder of the structures they created capture perfectly the feel of the land around it.Stubbs is perched, high atop magnificent hills west and south of Petaluma and the few buildings perched high in the hills match the soul of these vast rolling hills. Yet the wines captured us more.Mary Stubbs is the driving force behind this very small winery. Stubbs Vineyard's biggest year was about 2,700 cases. Yet you will find their magnificent, Burgundian style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the finest restaurants in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. For the many who have fallen away from Chardonnay in favor of Sauvignon Blanc, you are in for a pleasant surprise with the more clean, mineral-centric white burgundy style Mary's winemaker has delivered.Even without the wine, a visit to this bucolic space is breathtaking. But, Oh, the wine. But plan ahead.Mary can only offer limited tasting opportunities because she is also does her own sales and marketing and is often in personal touch with the host of restaurants fortunate enough to be able to offer Stubbs Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Do plan early if you want the opportunity to taste her wines and visit this incomparable boutique winery or check the many great restaurants who offer Stubbs Wines in the Bay Area.Mary's passion is broadcast beautifully by the quality of the product she produces. Her grapes are grown sustainably. Power for the vineyards are generated with wind and solar technology. Her grapes are organic. She only uses grapes from her own small vineyard plots and they are perfectly positioned to produce these two grapes in a way our wonderful Sonoma Carneros Region can't match.“

Azari Vineyards & Winery Winery • $$
1399 Spring Hill Rd, Petaluma

“We had a great time at Azari. We were there later on a Sunday afternoon and it was very quiet, so we got to take our time and wander around the grounds, which are beautiful! The wines themselves were pretty good. Riesling was a bit funky...maybe a little bit not in the way they intended.“

Black Knight Vineyards Tasting Room Wine Bar •
155 Petaluma Blvd N, Petaluma

“Happened upon this tasting room on Father's Day (the dad of honor is a huge sparkling fan). We were looking for a place to continue his sparkling day (having started at Cafe Mimosa) and we found Lexi! I'm so glad we did... On a last minute Sunday afternoon, she was warm and welcoming. She took us through our flights (still and sparkling) as easily as having a conversation with a friend! The wine is good AND the space is beautiful and inviting so when you're in the area, you should stop in...“

Wine Snob* Winery •
969 Carquinez Ave, Glen Ellen

“Don’t miss this excellent stop in cute downtown Glen Ellen. Taste delicious red and white varietals, bubbly, and port. Something for everybody! Such a fun experience—it’s a welcoming, comfortable tasting room with a great vibe, including the background music and displayed local artwork and jewelry. The prices for their wines are incredibly reasonable and with a hard-to-find tasting fee of only $15-$20, you really have to check it out. Husband and wife owners, Ryan and Lindsey, personally welcome and serve and they’re very knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly committed to the quality of their wine.“

Little Vineyards Family Winery Wineries • $$
15188 Sonoma Hwy, Glen Ellen

“Stopped by here last month for a wine tasting with my girlfriend. We did the reserve tasting and it was a great experience. We arrived a little early but we were able to be promptly seated. The winery itself is quite small - which lends itself well to being chill and more intimate. The reserve tasting gave us a chance to try 4 of the award winning wines that have been made here - everything was excellent. This place specializes in red wines and you can really tell they've nailed it down to an art. I was especially a fan of the 2020 Syrah-Zinfandel. Service wise, our host was great. They did a great job answering our questions and checking in with us to see how we were doing. Would definitely recommend stopping by here - my girlfriend and I were only here for a bit , but I'd definitely make my way back out here (and stick around a little longer) the next time I find myself in Sonoma. 5/5“
