Superior bar stools. Table seating up front. A rear patio. No Apple Pay.The bar has neighboring businesses which serve food. One can find Vietnamese, Thai, and Mexican fare within a block. The bodega sits across from BART, on the same side of Diamond St. A pizza place is in proximity. This area has a low-key dominance about it. A great spot for socializing, a walkable pocket of the city wherein small businesses sling good eats, and you have the option to get hammered.

Parking is available in the public library lot after 6, 7, 8PM during the week. Street parking on the northbound lane of Bosworth between Arlington & Diamond is free in the evenings. I am not sure when the meters stop accepting payment-I pulled up at 7:30PM on a Monday.

To those behind the wheel—be advised—residential streets intersect as sharp turns become sudden hills. At all hours there are pedestrians, cyclists, and coyotes. SFPD often posts a patrol vehicle on Bosworth (south of the Arlington intersection) to eyeball the I-280 south on-ramp.“

“On weekends they serve food and offer regular pool leagues for all levels. The regulars are friendly and open to talking to newcomers. If you’re from the area you need to go! They embrace locals and make you feel like you’ve always been there. Their shirts are great too and the smoking patio is a huge plus since it’s right out the backdoor. It’s a real SF institution with a ton of history and an even better staff of bartenders. Definitely one of my favorite spots to hang out in the city!“

It occasionally has that "you're not a regular" off-putting feeling and single use bathrooms, but that's to be expected and doesn't take away from it. They also have some seats outside for when the weather's nicer. I usually stop in at the end of the night, but went recently earlier in the afternoon and they had a real sweet bartender who could make a great old fashion, and it was cool to see what it looks like inside with some sunlight, even though it means missing out on the spinning color lights they usually have running.“

“El Rio is such a classic SF spot. The backyard patio is honestly the best part — super spacious and perfect for dancing or just hanging with friends. “The Korner Store is a private event space now. I sent an inquiry in for a Saturday night booking, and received prompt response with a quote and some options. There's a minimum food and drink amount. I coordinated a walk through of the space and made a deposit!

The hosts and owners (Ina and Nick) are incredibly helpful throughout the booking and night of the event. My ~40 guests enjoyed the Korean food and full bar. We had a fantastic time in the private space. The venue has tv screens, music inputs, DJ and dance area, karaoke, and an optional photobooth. I highly recommend considering The Korner Store for your next event.“

“After swim lessons and with monster appetites, we were looking for a quick neighborhood spot to have dinner with the 8 year old. Out the Road was a perfect pick. I ordered pepperoni pizza, margherita pizza, fried chicken bites, pol sambol chicken bites, which were smackin’, lettuce-wrapped black and blue burger which was a special, and an arugula salad. The kid loved the pizza. I thought it was ok. My favorites were the arugula salad with the perfect amount of a tangy sweet citrus dressing, the chicken bites were tender and juicy, and the burger was soooo good. It was a special so they may not have it regularly, but it was a good sized patty cooked just right. I switched my order to that, and I’m so glad I did. We had a bunch to take home for later. Service was great. The space is clean and cozy. We’ll be back for sure.“

I also appreciated the sense of belonging that the venue fosters because you can tell that it is a cherished gathering place for local residents who have been supporting live jazz for many years. Even though it is located outside the main tourist areas the positive energy and the incredible talent on display make the journey to the Bayview district completely worthwhile for an evening of great sounds. I will definitely be returning here soon to support the local artists and enjoy the legendary hospitality because the combination of the historic charm and the vibrant music is truly a highlight of the city.“
