“Can't rly give atmosphere 5 stars because it's takeout only but the wife and I love this place! Banh mi is excellent, as are the bowls of whatever. I don't think there's anything the owner chef woman can't make well. She used to run 3 restaurants! Also she is an angel. Go there for the owner chef woman if nothing else. Also egg rolls and crab rangoon are yummy.

When I used to work in the area, I'd get their lunch plates they have wrapped up in the open fridge. Viet BBQ Chicken, Fried Egg Roll, and rice noodles are my go-to.

They also serve noodle soup, which a friend of mine way back said tasted like her mom's, very good; Chicken Pho.

“Pho is all about the broth, and this place was amazing. You can tell the broth was cooked with a lot of bones and flavors like star anise because you can see the nice fat in the broth. I consider myself a bit of a pho connoisseur, and this was the best pho around El Cerrito. Portions are generous as well. I recommend the large combination (PHỞ XE LỮA) beef noodle bowl.“

“Can’t decide between egg rolls or spring rolls? Enter the Cha Gio Cuon…egg roll in spring roll. GENIUS! My companions had the chicken soup and fish banh mi, both also excellent. Their broth is super flavorful and the price is right. Owner and crew are very attentive.
The restaurant is beautiful with modern murals of Bay Area life, but eating near sundown was quite unpleasant in almost all tables due to west facing sun. Simple drapes/blinds would help.“

“I love the food here and have eaten here many times. I usually get the pho or banh mi. The smoothies are delicious! But the boba is gross. It always has a bite to it and never tastes sweetened with brown sugar or honey. That's fine though, I just don't order it!

Unfortunately the woman working at the front makes me feel like I'm not welcome or inconveniencing her every time we order. We always say hi, sometimes we have questions, and tell her to have a nice day, but we either never get a response or the response is low energy. There's no eye contact, low volume, and visible eye rolling or scoffing, I know customer service isn't a fun job, but it almost feels personal? I'm really glad they have an online ordering option and a kiosk now because I can avoid her. She triggers my social anxiety because I feel like I'm doing something wrong every time I'm there.“

“Excellent place!! I had the grilled pork banh mi, it was absolutely delicious. The meat was really well marinated with lemongrass and fish sauce, by the taste of it, and it wasn't too fatty. However I did end up waiting about 35-40 mins. Order ahead of time if you're in a rush. I noticed other people were waiting a while for their food as well. There was only one person taking orders and delivering food. They are family owned and ran. I hope they can hire more people to make it run more efficiently.I do like how they have tofu bahn mi as an option! Most bahn mi places don't offer that.The seats seem scattered. However there is various options for seating which is good for large groups. I would come back, but probably order ahead of time!“

“Updates since their closure (I believe new ownership?). This place now rivals places in San Jose imo. I didn't realize they opened :( Yelp has their updated photos 7 months ago and I'm sorry I hadn't discovered it sooner!

I tried their Seafood Beef Noodle Soup w/ egg noodles, so good!! Great sandwiches too! The photo doesn't do it justice. Good portions of fish cake, shrimp, squid and imitation crab plus got a cup of their fried chili oil for the ultimate depth of flavor in their already rich beef broth. Always egg noodles over rice noodles for me.

These remarks are already made with only a couple visits and I can't wait to try everything else on the menu!

“Great pho, would recommend for a quick bite or to satisfy that pho craving. Mind you it’s not the most world breaking pho but it does give a good mom and pop vibe.

The only complaint I had on the pho was the meat balls, they had a weird flavor profile from what I’m used to and it did not pair well with the rest of the soup.

We had the number 8 and the number 14. Great service size and they do not skimp on the noodles. ? for being this close to the university the price is pretty great.

Even with one hour left to close they were alert and quick with the service and the food still was good quality.“

“Very good! Stopped in after a movie. The service was impeccable! It was my first time eating at this location and as soon as we walked in, they made you feel like they have known you forever or that we were regulars. I noticed that some regulars who walked in, they already knew what they were going to order and were greeted exceptionally well. The food of course matched the service. Was very good. “My son and I were visiting Berkeley and stopped in for lunch. We shared spring rolls for an appetizer. He had a ban mi sandwich that he said was excellent and my vermicelli noodles with chicken was also good. We stayed for a long time chatting and the server was nice about refilling our waters and letting us take our time.“

“Got a bánh mì chả lụa (they call it a district 3 ? lol) and it was good! Normal and what you expect from a banh mi shop. What’s interesting about this place is their very lavish colorful names based off of areas of Saigon and other places in Vietnam for what would otherwise be pretty normal banh mis so it was a bit funny as a Vietnamese person but yeah. I also got the coffee which was quite good. Prices though… I mean it is Berkeley what can I say.“

It’s a popular restaurant here so it might be flooded with students around lunch time, and the waiting time might be longer during peak hours.

Only things is that the tips is mandatory as there’s no other option when you order through the pad.
Also, since they’re generous with their sauce, if you don’t like too much sauce, choose “sauce on the side” option and not mix in. ?
