“My first time back since I heard it’s under new ownership/management.
I ended up getting the Special BBQ Combo #1 and Seafood Combo #3. The BBQ plate came with chicken, pork and beef with a side of rice and Mac salad. The seafood combo came w fried fish and shrimp. I also got 3 spam musubis.
I have to say, the food blew me away. The portions are generous. The meats were flavorful and has a char without being burnt. The seafood combo was crispy. The spam musubis were proportional! Most places give too much rice to spam but here it’s perfect enough take away from the saltiness.
IPO has plenty of parking and lots of dining spaces to eat inside. I wanted to phone in my order but saw no phone number. When I asked, they said check IG.
They have drinks that I’ll have to try next time.“

“Man I’ve been coming to this place for years now and even still it never ceases to amaze me.
Let’s just get it out the way, the food is great high quality for such a reasonable price. That’s something you just can’t find these days in San Diego. Sure there’s other BBQ places that some may say have better BBQ, but Phil’s is a staple to San Diego just like Hodads (who also some could argue there are better burgers here, but they will never be Hodads).
Once my daughter Turned one years old, I took her here on a little father and daughter date. She absolutely loves the french fries and most days likes the rib meat from the ribless tickler ( beef rib meat without the bone, easier to feed daughter). With a decent tip we both leave happy and full for around $20 depending on tip and it “da-da” gets a beer or not… which also they have insanely good drink prices ($5 rotating beers monthly, and not bud light but good ass beers).
Today was an especially good when it comes to the service. Our food buzzer was broken or was the wrong one or something like that so we waited a little bit longer for food than normal. Samuel (god I hope I remembered this name right) noticed my daughter and I waiting and figured something was wrong. Totally helped us out. He then, super intuitively asked if I wanted a separate plate for my daughter, and a kids cup full of water. He also brought back plastic utensils for her to play with which she loved.
After all of that, I find out that Samuel is 19 and doesn’t have kids of his own. That dude is on fire and is super intuitive and on his mark. I don’t know when he gets paid, but I can tell you right now if I Own the company I would hire him in a heartbeat and pay him as much as I could physically afford. He is one of those assets to companies that’s so many bosses oversee.
I recently lost my job, And with the new job having hard times to catch up on bills. these are rare times I can take my daughter out now. I would tip this guy $100 bill if I could. And one day when I get back on my feet I will. Keep going strong, sir. You are a beast and you will succeed at everything you do in this life with the attitude and work ethic that you have.“

“My new favorite kbbq spot in San Diego! The meats are all great quality, melt in your mouth. Loved the skirt steak, prime cut, short ribs, and the marinated beef. The ny steak was also good but I preferred the other meats. Over all just really tasty, the charcoal really makes a difference in the flavor and it cooks quickly too“

“This is a hole in the wall. Line up and get your food and take it out to the outdoor public seating. They have an eclectic mix of (I want to say) Filipino barbecued pork, barbecue, chicken adobo, curry chicken, spicy chicken, some kind of sausage, fried rice, plain rice, chow mein. The barbecue pork is so expletive delicious! It has a sweet and charred flavor.“

“How much fun! Great selection of meats and sides, some you wouldn’t expect like tortillas, cheesy corn, cheese fondue and French fries. Try the brisket and spicy chicken, you won’t be disappointed. Pricing is reasonable for all you can eat, so come hungry and get your money’s worth.“

“TOO GOOD ! It's been way too long since we have eaten here...close to 21 months. Even though there are heaps of Asian eateries around Irvine where we moved to in Nov, 2022 no one serves authentic Chinese food like this place. Forget about the cheesy ambience inside an old movie theater that is mostly an Asian supermarket...it's all about the incredible food. WEEKEND GETAWAY ! My wife and I hit the road at 10.30am on Friday to kick off our fun packed weekend down in San Diego. We hit heavy traffic as expected but better earlier than later. FIRST STOP ! We arrived here for lunch around 12.30pm. While my wife parked our car I headed inside to the restaurant....to my surprise Joe the long time manager recognized me straight off and showed me to a vacant table in the corner. TOO EASY ! When Joe popped over to say hi I gave him our lunch order. We knew exactly what we wanted...1 x Kung Pao Shrimp and 1 x Honey Walnut Shrimp. Joe came back with a pot of Jasmine tea and 2 tall iced waters. IT WAS PACKED ! Before too long Joe brought out my wife's huge serve of Honey Walnut Shrimp. Within 2 or 3 minutes my delectable looking Kung Pao Shrimp hit the table. MOUTHSATIONAL ! Trust me no one serves authentic Chinese food as good as here. My Kung Pao Shrimp tasted amazing...no tails on the shrimp and it was kicked up just enough. My wife was in gourmet food heaven enjoying her Honey Walnut Shrimp but I did have to pinch a few of her juicy shrimp with walnuts. THE BEST ANYWHERE !“

“This has been my number one place to go to for the most delicious and most freshly cooked, roasted pig, regular, whole-roasted duck, and whole roasted-open duck in the whole San Diego county!! I also like their roasted pig feet and head!!😋 I have been going here for about over two decades. I have not tried their other dishes though. My favorite dish is their whole, open roasted duck!! It's really tasty and has a lot less fat than the regular, roasted one, but it still has the right amount of moisture and flavor in the meat, except the head. The duck head is sometimes dry if it is later in the afternoon. I usually get it during their first batch in the morning when they first open at 9:30am. The Cantonese lady who's also fluent in Vietnamese and English would always ask me if I want my duck to be cut. I like to watch her cutting the whole duck into nice bite sizes and all into a box nicely and neatly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who likes the dishes I mentioned here!“

“Came here for lunch with my mom on a Wednesday. Normally, this place has no parking availability. The place is very small but cozy. But during lunch, there were plenty. Walking in, we were seated right away. You can tell how good a restaurant is when you see most of their customers were Korean. My mom ordered the kimchi jigae. She said the broth was very good but was very disappointed that she only had 1 strip of pork belly in the soup. I ordered the galbitang and it came with 2 large beef ribs with the meat so tender it fell off the bones. The broth was also very good that i finished the broth before the meat and noodles. This is a definite place to go to again and again.“

“I took a day trip to San Diego from LA with my two friends and this was on our itinerary as the main event.
I ordered the Large Combo for 3-4 people with 3 choices of meats. It was $89.99 and it came with a corn cheese, the choice of a kimchi or soybean stew, and a steamed pot egg. We got the pork belly, the pork jowl, and the abomasum (I had no idea what this was, but my sweet server recommended it!)
The abomasum was really chewy and I wish it was cut smaller so the chewy-ness could be cooked down into crispier pieces, but the pork belly and jowl were excellent.
I thought it might not be enough since we were all really hungry and also added a side of the LA Galbi Meal (beef short rib on a hot stone plate and lots of grilled onion) and it also comes with rice, soybean or kimchi soup.
We also got a ton of side dishes aka banchan such as kimchi, pickled daikon, fish cake, fresh chives with spicy sauce, soy pickled onion, and sesame oil bean sprouts.
You can always tell the quality of a place by their side dishes at Korean restaurants and although it's not AYCE, the banchan here makes you forget about that and just enjoy the quality of the ingredients you're getting!
Everything was soooooo good and the portions were great!
We ate all the meats and were too full to finish all the banchan, but we kept telling each other how amazing the experience was as we were eating.
The servers are so amazing and would constantly come and check on our grill and replenish our sides without us asking. I love the hospitality and presentation of this restaurant so much.
The only thing I will say to look out for is that you may have to wait for parking and it depends on the busyness of the plaza (since they seem to have a bunch of great food businesses all in one) and it’s a small parking lot. Other than that, be ready to have such a good time!
If you're a local and haven't had SongHak, you're definitely missing out and need to try it! If you're not a local like me and have to travel 2+ hours for it, then I still say it was super worth it.“

“A very nice Japanese Yakiniku style restaurant (beef, vegetables, chicken or others that you grill on the table).
They have a good selection of different meat and meat quality. All was excellent, and you can really taste the difference between the different quality levels.
The staff were very friendly and professional, and provided excellent service.
I really liked the nice, cozy atmosphere, with individual booths and wood paneling.
Definitely a fun place to come to when you have that craving for tasty yakiniku bbq!“

“Very good price for all you can eat premium waygu meats. Very simple and to the point menu. Only wish their sauces was a little better and they had one extra side like steamed egg or japchae. It's just missing one or 2 things that would make it excellent, but for the lunch price of $35 and dinner for $40 you get your value. The parking isn't too bad either compared to other spots in clairemont.“

“Good variety of proteins, lots of amazing sauces, veggies, and overall good vibes. My most favorite part that I love about this place is that you get the opportunity to be creative and become your own chef. Another great thing is you yourself get to serve and pick what you want since it’s buffet. Have fun, enjoy, and have a good time whether it’s for a date night or with a group of family or friends. Definitely a place I will go back.“

“It looks like any Korean BBQ restaurant in CA, but once walking in you're warmly greeted by someone who looks like the owner. She was very friendly. Still, the menu looked like any Korean restaurant with a plethora of options from appetizers to stews, meat to sushi.
Unexpectedly, the standout dish for me was the yukhoe (beef tartare). It’s definitely different from most places in the best way: instead of being overly sweet or heavy on seasoning, Shozen’s version lets the freshness and natural flavor of the beef shine. The texture is tender and clean, the seasoning is balanced with just the right hint of sesame oil, sesame seeds, pine nuts, chives and egg yolk. Surrounding the main attractive were slices of pear and cucumber. The dish felt thoughtfully composed helping the palate go through an unforgettable culinary experience.
The al jjigae (fish egg stew) was excellent as well—deep, rich, and clean with no fishy taste or smell. It’s the kind of stew that’s comforting and layered with so much flavor that you didn't even need rice to complement it.
Lastly, the service was outstanding. The owners were incredibly kind and accommodating—warm, attentive, and always smiling. You can feel their pride in what they serve and how they care for their guests. They would come by and ask if everything tasted alright, and made sure we weren't lacking any side dishes.
I wish we went for the Korean BBQ, but we were stuffed! Maybe next time. It was definitely a restaurant that I would love to come back to when I visit SD again. A++!“

“This place is really good! Loved the fat little spicy sausages, the Lao salad, the crying tiger beef, the Mok fish and the heavenly jerky. So flavorful, warmly spicy but with lots of lemongrass and herbal flavors. Not a fancy place, but you can definitely feel the love.“

“We visited this place last weekend. It was our first time there, and food was great. Luckily I looked at their menu ahead of time. We got there around lunch, server that greeted us upfront asked us what ayce menu we wanted. Sat down already ordered our drinks and was wondering why the lunch special is not available anymore, luckily the table beside us confirmed they do have a lunch special and shared there menu. When I asked the server why we never get offered that, his reason is they are out of the menus. Atmosphere is a 3 cause it was hot. The a/c was down or wasn't working and they only had a small fan and the doors wide open to circulate air in the restaurant. Food made up for it and we'll give them another shot, someday.“

“To go buffet review only: I’ve been here several times and swap between the 99 Ranch buffet. Ultimately, Woo quality, portion size is better than 99 even though it’s $2-3 more. Had the beef with broccoli, chicken with mixed veggies. Both very good and tender meat. Rice was good also. So, today not bad as it’s been less satisfying other visits.“

“Amazing tasting food, great service, and available seating for in door dining.
BBQ chicken is slightly better than the pork.
They dip the bbq sticks in BBQ sauce before they serve you. Please note that the bbq sticks are already pre marinated with that same sauce. Ask them not to dip it if you don't want double dip.
Pork tocino is amazing as well as their sinigang. Good prices as well!“

“Best L&L is all of San Diego. The food is excellent and they have more options than all the other ones. Plenty of seating inside, tables are clean, great value too.
There is plenty of parking, its very family-friendly. Best suits medium parties or smaller. Indoor and outdoor seating. Easy to find parking, but it still gets busy.“

“First of all I must tell you that I typically do not like Korean barbecue. That being said, this place is excellent. The food is really good. The service was also really good. The atmosphere was good it's going to be a loud place because there's a lot of people and that's okay. I took my daughter here for her birthday. We had a great time and I highly recommend that if you want to go to a good barbecue place to go here. The ratings were high so we drove 35 minutes to get there and it was worth it.“

“When we entered there wasn’t anyone, and tbh the restaurant’s design looked a little bare… it almost looked like it wasn’t doing well. When the food came, my entire family (with three kids) loved it. We were here for lunch and ordered noodles, and I could just say it’s comfort in my belly. Tho they took our order wrongly and served us an extra bowl of noodle (and we paid for it), we took it bcos we wanted to try something else from the menu.
A senior lady (I suppose she’s the one who cooked the dishes) came out and asked if everything was alright, and even gave us a free bottle of drink. Oh, there was also a small crowd also flowed in during our meal as well.
Would recommend!“
