“Totally worth the 70 minute drive. Delicious food and great Taiwanese hospitality. Friendly, attentive staff and wonderful atmosphere. Minced Pork (Lu-Rou) Rice, fully loaded delicious stewed pork with egg. Meats are juicy and tender, kinda on the sweet side. Clamshell bun (Gua Bao) comes with tender thick cut pork, a bit on the salty side, but very well cooked. Fatty but not greasy. Thousand layer pancake with egg and basil was crispy and flaky. The basil flavor is a wonderful addition. Scallion bread sandwich was what we expected. Same tender thick cut pork, very happy to eat this. Next time I will probably get the beef, too much pork belly today Wonton soup is very classic, if you like shrimp wontons, you have to try this. We ended the meal with Hakka mochi and Oolong tea, the mochi tasted just like the ones in Taiwan. The tea was fragrant and is just the perfect compliment to the mochi. Overall an amazing meal with warm and friendly people, highly recommend!“

“Glad to discover another nice Taiwanese restaurant around LA. Very hospital staff. The beef noodle soup is certainly their specialty - unique thick al dente noodles, very tender tendons (chunks of beef not so much), interesting broth with herbal accents. Impressed by their shrimp & pork dumplings - the pork portion was probably fulfilled by the filing of XLB on the menu, which made the dumplings very pleasantly juicy; just wished the wrapper were thinner. In all, don’t expect anything extraordinary, but great value and certainly above peers.“

“Went here for take out lunch boxes, food is good considering the price, and there’s a verity of items to pick from. It’s like a mini version of KangKang XiaoMei that was closed a while back. Only thing is that the server lady is usually at the back preparing/cooking, so you might not be attended to right away, sometimes might need to wait a little.“

“Food is fantastic here, parking is easy, service is good. The only issue is things sell out here, FAST. Past 6pm you better ask if they still have the menu items you want before going in. heck a lot of times they'd be out of rice of all things.“

“Brings me back to Taiwan every time. Great food and exceptionally friendly service, especially from the lady who works the front!
I always order the fantuans (Taiwanese rice breakfast burritos), radish cakes (add the egg!!!), and soy milks for friends and family whenever they visit.“

“An old restaurant opened by Taiwanese more than 20 years ago, with many local snacks. Today, the two of them only had chicken drumstick rice and pork rice. Unfortunately, it is now pork rice and there are no dried bamboo shoots, which is very disappointing... The business used to be very good. I miss the Taiwanese taste. This is the right place to come, the taste hasn’t changed, it’s still delicious!“

“Total hidden gem that I discovered (omg) 20 years ago. I have to say it's the closest you can get to authentic taiwanese food in Los Angeles. You will be sitting among loyal customers that visit at least a few times a week. The lady here is like an old friend and there is just her and the chef. There is usually never a wait and they open late. Check the hours before you go. One of our favorites in LA. Dishes we recommend include Taiwanese fried chicken, stinky tofu, and shrimp fried rice. All the stir fries are good. CASH Only.“

“We ordered Taiwanese fried rice noodles, green onion and sesame flatbread, Hakka stir-fry, Shacha beef water spinach and dried lentils.
Hakka stir-fry, it is really fried with dried squid, which is something very few restaurants do. But why stir-fry satay sauce? At first I thought it was dried shredded pork until I tasted dried squid. The dried tofu is cut so well!
Taiwanese fried rice noodles, fried very well, there is no sauce at the bottom of the plate, amazing! ? The rice noodles are very elastic and delicious!
The dry lentils were just average.
I will eat it next time and will continue to order Taiwanese fried rice noodles, Hakka stir-fried rice noodles and other dishes.“

“I went here with my friend's and the food was amazing, we all decided to chip in and pay together and it turned out we were 10 dollars short, the owner came and said it was okay that we didn’t pay full price and she was really kind and had a positive attitude the whole experience!“

“Firstly, I don't understand this place's bad reviews. I haven't tried a Taiwanese breakfast before, though I used to love their other food since it was served at boba places in the area when I was growing up in SGV.
I came in the other day to try Yi Mei's fried pork chop noodle soup and fan tuan. Personally, I felt the quality of food was very high. Despite it being a late lunch, I was already full after eating half of both, so I just saved the rest of my fan tuan for dinner. I'd definitely recommend getting pickles and eggs with that.
This food is tasty, filling, and comforting. I would come back again!“

“Stopped in for a boba after visiting my favorite Indian restaurant next door.
I ordered a chrysanthemum, oolong tea with boba, 50% sweet, lite ice.
The boba is delicious and the tea was so flavorful.
Coincidently, the owner’s wife, Cleo, owns Sharp Tea in Little Tokyo, another tea shop that I go to all the time. Sharp Tea is delicious, too, if you find yourself on the Weller Court.
I will return to Why Thirsty again. Everyone here is super nice and have positive spirits.
Thank you, Why Thirsty and Cleo!!
P.S. The air conditioner works very well!! (:“

“Read about this in such raving reviews inevitably I swung by and see it for myself. We got there at lunch time near 1p but the place closes at 2p. The first impression was that this is an absolute minimalists' dream. No menu, no decor, no utensils, no price on the wall, no sticker, no label on pre packed food. What you see is what you’d get. Plain plain furniture that Ikea should be impressed. The only menu was above the cashier, and they have the item but literally priceless. I scanned the immediate crowd of a few and thought I probably should be able to afford this place if they could… With that little bit of courage, we pointed and ordered from the board above. The house stew noodle. Looking at the display case, we spotted something weird and we ordered it because it's been a while. We got some marinated baby squids in a plastic tub. Again, priceless. Sat at the barron table equipped with disposable chopsticks we ate. The squid was good. No complaints about that but it’s an entirely acquired taste so you should think before getting it. Then the noodles arrived after a long few minutes. It has the expected fragrance of many spices combined. Presentation was good. Then do learn from my mistake, DO NOT SLURP. The spicy oil will intrude into places least suspected and cause embarrassment if not disaster toward whoever is sitting across. The hot spicy soup tasted as if I had sniffed it. It had depth, not just looking dark and floating a few bits of what would say spice. With that said, getting past not slurping took a few tries as typically noodles go down with a big slurp a la japanese ramen. Avoid such practice here. The meat was surprisingly not dry as I would say having prep the soup with depth typically killed the meat. Probably the soup and the meat met after preparation and not from the start. The noodle was with the right amount of dough density and springlyness. I don't think they made it from scratch but they know how long to cook it and keep from soaking it too long in soup or water. Everything was good. The bill showed up and it was cash only. Surprise! I don’t know why this place could have rated $10 up, the noodle was $20. The squid was $10. The tea was free but hope you like styrofoam cup. The tire company paper- Firestone or something, was on the wall. Strictly for the food. Service was ok. We needed minimal attention in such a setting because it was set up to show it won’t be any.“

“Best popcorn chicken ever👍👍👍“
“If you haven’t tried Taiwanese popcorn chicken before, this is the perfect place to start. Their popcorn chicken is authentic, with a crispy, golden exterior and a juicy, flavorful interior that won’t disappoint. There are also some simple tables and chairs set up inside, providing a space to enjoy your meal. The shop is located inside Secoya Market and sells traditional Taiwanese street food. They also offer Japanese sushi but I haven't had the chance to try it.
Parking: There is plenty of parking outside the Secoya Market.“

“Used to be my favorite breakfast place in Arcadia but the quality has gone down lately. Their rice burritos became very stingy on the fillings, mostly rice. Their soy milk is still good, green onion pancakes, and egg crepes are good.
Vegetarian options: Vegetarian rice roll, green onion pancake, egg crepe, vegetarian buns, crispy Chinese donut. Soy milk and peanut milk“

“Kitty's Cafe is a Taiwanese style eatery in the north side of the SGV. We stopped by to grab a quick snack. This used to be Copycat Cafe as a heads-up for those wondering. When you come inside, you'll notice a retro look as there are things that still are in transition from Copycat. But that doesn't mean that the food itself was solid. We ordered a set of popcorn chicken for the road and after about 10 minutes, we got our bag full of popcorn chicken goodies. The chicken was delicious - not too crispy and super flavorful. Had a slightly sweet flavor and was nice and hot. The only thing that would've helped would have been some sweet and sour sauce. At least on the weekend, there's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. The owners are super nice. Know they commented to us that they have been having a tougher time during the pandemic with some lost business around town so they could definitely use the help!“

“I love this restaurant so much! It’s never as full as I think it should be; maybe people are intimidated by the DIY element? (It’s a build-your-own malatang / mala dry pot kind of spot.) The flavors are authentic and spicy (but you can dial down the spice if that’s not your thing.) there’s also a cash discount if you pay with cash.
Parking: There is street parking in the neighborhood as well as a dedicated lot behind the restaurant (free).“

“Been going here since I was a little kid. Always love this place and it gives me a lot of nostalgia. The food is super consistent and the rice here is always cooked exactly the same which is good. Only thing that hasnt changed is service. A long time ago we had a server demand a larger tip and recently we came in with a large party and wanted to add 1 more table. When i told a server she got really frustrated and shocked we needed 1 more. It wasnt busy so its not like they needed it right away. We ended up making do and squeezing in because she didnt want to set up a new table. But foods always good so ill come back lol.“

“Family and I have been coming here for ages. Yeah some things are pricy, but most have decent portions. Food a little bit on the greasy side though. I like their braised tofu most. Their porridge is good with big chunks of yam! Parking can be a bit difficult to find at times.“
“I haven’t been back to Los Angeles for eight years. “Rolling Pot” is an element of Los Angeles that remains in my memory. Millet porridge, sweet potato porridge, various side dishes, and biscuits, as well as the World Journal for sale. I’ll check it out next time I go back. Look, I don't know if the two sisters selling rice are still there? I miss the days when I first came to the United States, the days when I struggled for half a day to get three small dishes or five, those who had dinner together, hope everything is ok!“

“This Taiwanese style restaurant offers delightful vegetarian options alongside its regular fare, earning four stars. Their stinky tofu is a standout, boasting authentic flavors that please even non-vegetarians. The fried rice is equally impressive, with a perfect balance of textures and seasonings. What sets this place apart is the warm and friendly chef, who goes above and beyond to ensure every customer leaves satisfied.“

“God! It's a touching taste
We came to play from AZ and were recommended by relatives and friends to try it out.
Shacha water spinach and mutton is simply the taste that I miss in my memory
The scallion chicken is super tender, the oyster cakes are also delicious, and the kids love the sausages.
But the shredded ginger intestine is not sour enough, and the intestine is a bit too soft after cooking.
What’s even more touching is that if you spend $30 or more, you’ll get a free Taiwanese beer!
It’s just a quick-service restaurant!
Fast food and great service!“

“One of the boba places I tried next to Menya Hanabi. This isn’t a place to really sit down, it is a place to get your drink and go. There are two self serve touch screens where you can place your order, and it is nice that your name will show up on the screen to let you know approximately when your drink is ready. It seems this is a franchise so there are other places that serve the same, but this was my first experience and I think it is worth a try.
I decided to give the waffle a try, my kid enjoyed it. The passion fruit drink I got was decent, but the seeds inside were quite hard.
I like how modern the place is, but it seems to be a lot more pricier than some other places that I have been to in this city. I think my bill for 5-6 drinks and a snack was about $60. I believe I could have gone to another place and max would have been $40.
Worth a try, if especially if you are eating in the plaza. Until next time“

“I keep coming back for the veggies. The green beans and the seaweed with tofu is the best. Their knife-cut noodles with mushrooms have this fantastic smoky flavor—though the portion is a little small. Thankfully, you can swap in brown rice if you prefer.
The Salt & Pepper Tofu is a standout—crispy on the outside without being overly breaded—and the Spicy Pork Dumplings are just the right level of heat.
Pro tip: Parking is easier across the street if you’re cool with a short walk.
Downside: They can be a little understaffed at times“

“Every of the week, they have their own specials! We went in for their lunch. Walk in and they’ll seat you at a table. It wasn’t busy during lunch time. They have lots of to go orders as I see people coming in and out.Taiwanese Sausage /Popcorn chicken - both comes with rice with minced pork + soup + small sides + whatever you picked. The portions are good for its price. The meats weren’t overcooked and the sides were all flavorful!Takoyaki - we got this as a complimentary appetizer. It was good and bigger than some places I’ve been to.Milk tea- not too sweet! It was pretty good. We got samples to taste.Interior - definitely a bit older looking but I’m here for the food. I would recommend them to wipe down their plates, tables more. If was a bit sticky when I gel onto my combo platter.Staffs were all nice and speaks a bit of English. “The food was really good! I ordered several classic dishes and asked them to reduce the spiciness for my friends who are more sensitive to spicy foods, and it was about right. I would recommend you to leave it as is if you enjoy spicy foods, however. Their beef noodle soup was nothing special, but their fish and other dishes were amazing. I'll have to come back to try their dumplings sometime, because I saw many people having it and I came during an off hour time. Parking was easy to find but it was a very small parking lot.“

“The baked spinach and dragon rice was delicious, and the curry beef rice was also good. Because the beef brisket was a bit hard to bite, the boss gave us softer beef to compensate. The waiter was very considerate and pulled down the bamboo curtain to block the sun for us sitting by the window. They enthusiastically introduce the lunch items and the accompanying coffee is delicious! I like the clean environment here!“

“The price of the meal is reasonable, and each noodle dish tastes authentic. The sesame sauce of the miscellaneous sauce noodles is thick. I especially recommend the beef burrito, which has a lot of beef and is fragrant. The fried pork buns are very suitable for takeout.“
