“We visited this place when we were in old town Pasadena walking our dog on December 25th and they are open. I admire restaurants giving time to serve hot food when some restaurants choose to close this holiday. We went in together with our dog on a stroller they are open to service animals. Ambience was great not too loud and restaurant layout gives you a chance to go through each table without hitting another chair. I ordered the Japanese Miso, my wife ordered the Lamb Soup and my son ordered the Taiwanese Hot Soup. The food came in with a heating box where in they would light it up and keep the soup piping hot. It’s just like the Shabu-Shabu style on the side I ordered Vermicelli and my wife and son ordered white rice. Food was overflowing from the bowl what a great treat! All three soups we ordered had their own different tastes. This is the one of the Boiling Point restaurants that is fully staffed no need to wait on a server to get your order. Comparing this to the one we last visited this one will give you more food we had to bring home half of it as we were already full and there is still a lot left! We will come back here again for sure“

“Pretty good! The dan dan noodle tasted great. The wonton soup was okay and the beef roll was a little lacking on meat. The Taiwanese sausage seemed a bit small for $7 but was pretty good.
Overall very reasonable prices and the food is pretty decent.“

“Totally worth the 70 minute drive. Delicious food and great Taiwanese hospitality. Friendly, attentive staff and wonderful atmosphere. Minced Pork (Lu-Rou) Rice, fully loaded delicious stewed pork with egg. Meats are juicy and tender, kinda on the sweet side. Clamshell bun (Gua Bao) comes with tender thick cut pork, a bit on the salty side, but very well cooked. Fatty but not greasy. Thousand layer pancake with egg and basil was crispy and flaky. The basil flavor is a wonderful addition. Scallion bread sandwich was what we expected. Same tender thick cut pork, very happy to eat this. Next time I will probably get the beef, too much pork belly today Wonton soup is very classic, if you like shrimp wontons, you have to try this. We ended the meal with Hakka mochi and Oolong tea, the mochi tasted just like the ones in Taiwan. The tea was fragrant and is just the perfect compliment to the mochi. Overall an amazing meal with warm and friendly people, highly recommend!“

“Came here for my Grandma’s 80th birthday. Was recommended this spot for Peking Duck by a friend and it did not disappoint. The duck meat was juicy and duck skin was crispy. The eggplant was flavorful while the soup was pretty refreshing. I thought the grilled eel was ok, not very strong in flavorful in comparison with the rest of the meal.
The staff were very friendly and food came out promptly (not much of a wait). I would come back again for the Peking Duck alone!“

“This is truly a Taiwanese restaurant. I definitely wouldn't have eaten at a Chinese restaurant. I'm so happy to be able to eat Taiwanese food. Being in a foreign country always makes me a little nervous about going home. It was truly a wonderful experience.“

“The food was good, but I wasn’t comfortable with the way the server handled the bowls and plates. I saw hisi hands touch the money, computer surface, and the dirty table. Wearing gloves made me uncomfortable, especially when the server’s fingers touched the inside of the bowl. Other than that, the food was great.“

“I enjoyed this place a lot. It was a little bit hard to find at first, as it is located above the supermarket. The server was very friendly, helping me to find a good vegetarian option. The cold sesame noodles were tasty and refreshing, and the price is not bad ($8.99). The dining area is spacious and comfortable.“

“Xinbale is a fast-food restaurant serving authentic Taiwanese cuisine. It offers a wide variety of snacks; generally speaking, the flavors tend to be on the sweeter side. If you are not fond of sweet tastes, be sure to avoid ordering the Stir-fried Tomatoes with Eggs. Even on weekdays, the restaurant is bustling with diners. They also offer an extensive selection of beverages, and you can enjoy a dessert after your meal.“

“I was trying to take the godfather to the Vietnam kitchen down the street but they were closing up at 8:00 (!) and they told us that we could only get to go. Well. We wanted to talk and eat at a table. So we had both noticed this place on the way to VK . A very low-key restaurant with some high-grade beef noodle soup. Very tasty and there's a whole homemade feeling about the place which is very charming to me. A solid cucumber appetizer, the Szechuan vegetables were weirdly a little bland, or at least not as spicy or a sour as I was expecting. However, the Price is Right, the service is outstanding with it being what feels like a true mom-and-pop joint ( Bobby is the chef, and I suspect he's the pop, and looks much younger than his age), and I really like the fact that the menu was very simple. Even so I was tempted by other things on the menu, including the chicken curry, but they were out of chicken so I'll have to come back for that. Still I went with a specialty and I've been going to a lot of beef noodle soup places so I feel pretty strongly to judge that the broth was excellent. The vegetables were fresh and the meat was very good, if not as much as I wanted there to be. Overall the experience was outstanding and they were extremely hospitable, especially when we paid at 845 and I asked if they closed at 9:00 and they told us. They had closed 45 minutes earlier yet had hung around and gave no indication that we were to do anything, but enjoy our food. Very genteel and civilized. Thank you!“

“Recommend by foodie to try out their infamous Scallion Sesames Pancake. It’s definitely a winner! Crispy crust w/fluffy soft fillings w/generous amount of diced green onion in 8-slice🥰
I also ordered Veggie version tofu soup. I’m impressed the chef took this in a higher skill shredded tofu other than just chop-chop in dice. Soup is silky n tasty.
The other dish added on my order is watercress stir fried beef in satay sauce, a typical Taiwanese dish. It’s just average.“

“I recently stopped by Good Shine Kitchen Chinese Food to pick up some dumplings and wontons, and I was honestly really impressed with the quality and flavor. You can tell right away that this place focuses on comfort food done the right way, without trying to overcomplicate things.
The dumplings were the highlight for me. The wrappers were thin but sturdy, not overly thick or doughy, and they held together perfectly after cooking. The filling tasted fresh and well-seasoned, with a good balance of meat and texture. They reminded me a lot of homemade dumplings you’d eat with family, especially the kind you freeze and cook whenever you’re craving something warm and satisfying.
The wontons were just as good. The filling was smooth and flavorful, and they cooked evenly without falling apart. Whether you enjoy them in soup or on their own, they’re comforting and simple in the best way. This is the kind of food that feels familiar if you grew up eating Chinese or Taiwanese-style home cooking.
The restaurant itself feels low-key and local, but the food quality is solid and consistent. Portions are generous for the price, and it’s a great spot if you’re looking for authentic-tasting dumplings and wontons without needing a fancy setup.
I’ll definitely be coming back to restock my freezer and try more items from their menu. Highly recommended if you’re in the Monterey Park area and craving real comfort Chinese food.“

“Honest review:
My wife and i came at 9:30 for a later dinner. We got the braised pork and the beef bowl with the pepper sauce. We both thought that the flavor and portion were great. The pork was so tender and had just the right amount of fat the meat ratio. The beef bowl with pepper sauce was good i did ask for chili oil yo add some spice. The owner did tell me if you ask for spice ahead of time he can do mild medium and high depending on your tolerance.
Service was quick and very nice. As soon as we sat down they brought us an extra menu and two glasses of cold water. Then they brought us some free watermelon before i food came out. Food did not take long which was a plus but of course it was late so this service will depend on the time of day so I may come for lunch to provide a comparable experience.
Atmosphere was good and spacious. I will say the ac was not working but they were kind enough to place the fan to us.
I would recommend this place for a good quick and simple meal i will be back to try more from the menu and see if there is any other dishes to try.“

“I the got #4 minced meat dry noodle dish. Hubby got the #5 beef noodle soup (not pictured). Both were delicious but #4 was significantly smaller than #5.
This is the best beef noodle dish we've ever had and we've tried a lot in SGV.
Price wise I agree with others that it's more expensive than average but you can really taste the quality on the food. They only accept cash or Zelle so be aware of that before going!“

“Pastry was dry, but the curry filling was yummy with a touch of spicy. Fan Tuan (purple rice) was amazing, total hit with the husband and kiddos. My husband doesn't care for pickled veggies, but he stated it actually works really well in the roll with all the other ingredients. My kids call it Chinese kimbap and it was an amazing, easy, quick and clean lunch for the kiddos at the airport. Definitely coming back to try other items on their menu. Front lady was nice and made funny jokes and smart remarks. Lol“

“This spot is a must try! Really enjoyed their purple rice roll. Its all the hype and rightfully so. Get the fried donut extra crispy, add green onion pancake and brown sugar with their sasuage. That made it so so good. I also really enjoyed their beef roll with green onion pancake as it was packed full of flavor!“

“My visit to the his place was few months ago. While I was working nearby I decided to look for a place to grab a bite for lunch. The nearest one was this amazing little spot located along the main street, b careful, don't speed or you will miss it. Since I wanted something quick I got the curry to go with a couple of milk teas. They were both absolutely delicious, for the amount of food the price is super reasonable. “The human touch of a bowl of noodles⋯When I used to work at a newspaper in Mengcheng City, I would go to this Shanghai aunt’s noodle shop with other reporters to dine ?She remembered our preferences and faces after several visits. We didn’t meet for a while after leaving the job. One day we met by chance on the road, and my aunt still remembered me!After chatting for a while and saying goodbye, she said that she wanted to treat her to a meal next time she went to a restaurant. I didn't take it to heart. Until a few days ago, I drove by and wanted to eat their bowl of noodles. When I walked in, she was talking on the phone to take orders. When she saw my eyes widened, she asked me to sit down. Not long after, my dry noodles were served. Plus a red oil snack as a treat. This bowl of noodles is quite special. It is neither fried noodles nor sesame noodles, but fried sesame noodles mixed with two sauces. The menu is called "Strange Flavor Noodles". The taste is quite rich. When eating, you should mix it with raw cucumber. The noodles, sauce and refreshing cucumber naturally form a delicious balance that makes you want to take another bite.Maybe it's so strange. After eating it for the first time, I ordered this bowl of noodles from the store every time I came back. Several times when I walked into the store, my aunt yelled at the kitchen, knowing that this was what I ordered. While eating noodles, we talked about many things, including the decline of the newspaper office, and many people left! There are all new faces now, and the lively scenes before are no longer there. I smiled and said, many old employees should come back to see you, right? She laughed and said that it was true. Every once in a while, old faces come to reminisce, including me who showed up today. When she was leaving after the meal, she waved her hand and said don't give me any money. I said give me a tip! I just left the money on the table and emphasized that I would still come back. Not only was this bowl of noodles the most important thing, the human touch was priceless.“
“I haven’t been back to Los Angeles for eight years. “Rolling Pot” is an element of Los Angeles that remains in my memory. Millet porridge, sweet potato porridge, various side dishes, and biscuits, as well as the World Journal for sale. I’ll check it out next time I go back. Look, I don't know if the two sisters selling rice are still there? I miss the days when I first came to the United States, the days when I struggled for half a day to get three small dishes or five, those who had dinner together, hope everything is ok!“

“Nostalgia, haven't been here for so long! Just as I used to remember it! The staff is super nice, the place is clean, and they have all the food we used to order.
We always get their 3 cup chicken , bamboo and spicy pork! The highlight is eating the porridge with the Yam inside!
Happy to return and will be back soon!“
“My cousin specifically likes their $9.99/lb Hog foot (to go cold/warm up at home), and $13+ Taiwanese Bento boxes to-go or dine there. Small shop, not good foe big parties, no restroom. I was told the to-go drinks could be very sweet, so not for me. Hole in the wall, Taiwanese joint. Hog/Pork Feet cold/to-go is a must here!!! Tks to my cousin on this find.
My cousin's fav bento box is $14 Beef Shank and Chicken, and her SO favorite is $14 Salty Duck. She mentioned that Smoked Duck is heard to be good too. She ordered me 2lbs of the Hog Foot dish and it was delicious! It come with sauce, ginger and cilantro which I didn't need but the SO enjoyed. It's a good snack or side to have around.
They sell other side dishes, and frozen dumplings to goodies. Looking forward to coming back to try their bento box there.“

“I’ve been on a Taiwanese food binge lately and have been searching everywhere for some good, authentic Taiwanese dishes. This little mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall spot really hit the mark. The food tastes just like what I’d expect from back home or from the night markets in Taiwan.
I tried the stinky tofu (a must-have for any true Taiwanese food lover), the pork chop rice, and a few other dishes—and every bite was delicious, flavorful, and comforting. The portions are generous without being overwhelming, and the seasoning is on point.
The owners are super friendly and welcoming, which makes the dining experience feel even more like you’re visiting family. The restaurant shares a plaza with other shops, so there’s plenty of parking available, which is a big plus.
A couple of tips: it’s best to bring cash, as not everything is set up for cards. Also, they do have a restroom on site, which is always nice for a small place like this.
Overall, this is the kind of spot you want to keep coming back to—and the kind of hidden gem you almost don’t want to share so it stays special. Definitely one of my new go-to Taiwanese comfort food spots!“

“I’ve been coming to Au79 since 2006, back when they had their San Gabriel location. Unfortunately, the San Gabriel location closed during COVID, and now the Arcadia location is the only one still open.
I’ve always loved this place, especially for the popcorn chicken and the drinks. Everything just hits, and it’s been one of my go-to boba spots for years. Au79 is truly one of the OG boba shops in the SGV, and you don’t really see many OG boba shops around anymore. A lot of the older boba shops have closed over the years, so it’s nice to see Au79 still going.
It definitely has a lot of memories for me, and I hope they continue to stick around for many more years!“

“Most of so called Taiwanese restaurants are for snack food or street food. It’s so hard to find Taiwanese banquet cuisine, so every time we are in LA, we stop by here. This spot is the closest to the authentic Taiwanese food we can find within in California and Nevada.
Comparing to Cantonese food or Sichuan food, Taiwanese cuisine is on the light and healthy side, not oily or salty.
Below are some must orders:
Kidney and chicken testicle in sesame oil broth. They make the freshest kidney and not overcooked!
Chicken roll. They homemade it on site, super juicy and delicious.
COD with chili paste. Very flavor and really juicy fish.
Eel sticky rice. We added salted duck yolk which enhanced the flavor and presentation.
Intestines. They do not have the authentic vinaigrette flavor but still good.
I have been craving for the slow braised trotter with bamboo (bamboo is actually the highlight of this dish), so I pre-ordered it. It’s a big portion for 10 people.
Taro dessert. Not too sweet and not greasy but just a perfect combo for the dessert.
It’s very spacious inside, nice and clean. Easy and pretty of parking in the lot as well.“

“This place seriously deserves Michelin-star level recognition ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We finally found the most original and authentic taste of 大合卤味— a flavor we’ve missed and thought about consistently for so many years. Every dish was packed with rich, comforting flavors and that authentic traditional homemade feeling that is so hard to find nowadays.
The beef noodle soup was absolutely AMAZING — the broth was deep, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice and aroma. The beef was unbelievably tender, juicy, and practically melted in the mouth. One of the best beef noodle soups I’ve had in a very long time.
The signature dish is an absolute MUST-ORDER for every table! Once you try it, you’ll understand why everyone keeps coming back. The 卤味 dishes were also outstanding — packed with flavor, perfectly marinated, and incredibly addictive. You can truly taste the care and quality in every bite.
What shocked us even more was the price — very affordable, yet the quality and flavors honestly felt Michelin-star level. It’s rare to find a place that delivers this level of authentic Taiwanese comfort food at such a reasonable price.
Honestly, every dish we ordered was so yummy and beautifully prepared. This restaurant feels like a hidden gem with Michelin-level flavors and presentation. Definitely coming back again and highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Taiwanese comfort food! 😍🍜“
