16 Best Wineries in San Luis Obispo

Wolff Vineyards Wineries • $$
6238 Orcutt Rd, San Luis Obispo

“Just visited Wolff Vineyards yesterday, and I’m still on cloud nine! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was absolutely enchanting, with stunning views of the rolling vineyards. The staff welcomed us with warm smiles and made us feel like we were part of the family. We even took some vineyard tours with Third Wheel Tours. We got to get up close and personal with the scenery, which was the most fun!

But let me tell you about the star of the show—the Petite Sirah! ? It was hands down the best I’ve ever had. I couldn't get enough! The tasting experience was perfect, with just the right balance of knowledge and fun.

If you’re in the San Luis Obispo area, Wolff Vineyards is a must-visit! I’m already planning my next trip back. Cheers to incredible wine and unforgettable memories! ?✨“

“I recently had the pleasure of visiting Chamisal Winery, and simply put, it was an unforgettable experience.

The wines at Chamisal are undoubtedly some of the best on the Central Coast. Each sip was a testament to the quality and care that goes into every bottle.

A special mention to Jacob, the wine manager, whose hospitality was nothing short of amazing. He made our visit truly special with his extensive knowledge and warm, welcoming demeanor. Jacob went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic time, making us feel like VIP guests.

Sextant Wines Wineries • $$
1653 Maxwellton St, San Luis Obispo

“We have been members for well over a decade and have always loved the great varietals Craig and Team come forth. Everything from elegant to bold and my wife and I have several favorites. We were just coming back from the Dog Surfing Championships in Pacifica and figured we had to stop at the tasting room in Paso. We have known Rick in Edna for years and many of the other tasting professionals, however on this trip we were blessed to have Christina. Her knowledge, tasting notes, and service was fantastic. Definitely made us feel like part of the family. The Meat and Cheese Board was one of the best we have had, which we paired with some great wines! What an amazing treat on a long haul home!“

El Lugar Wines Winery •
3197 Duncan Rd Unit C, San Luis Obispo

“I asked a very prominent Edna Valley grape farmer who the next up-and-coming wine maker in Edna Valley was, and he pointed me to El Lugar and their wine maker Coby Parker-Garcia. I dropped by their tasting room next to Ancient Owl and was absolutely blown away by the quality of their wines - the best tasting I’ve done on the Central Coast perhaps ever. They are very Pinot Noir heavy, which isn’t even one of my favorite varietals, but the artful skill of the winemaker shines through. I didn’t have a single wine I disliked, but their Pinot from Bien Naciedo stood out as an utterly flawless wine. How it doesn’t earn a 98–100 point score from wine critics is beyond me. That said, my personal favorite was their Pinot from Bassi Vineyard near Avila Beach. There was a very interesting cayenne note in there that made the wine really exciting and, lucky for me and my pocketbook, was one of the cheaper wines they sell. I don’t think you can go wrong here. The only error you can make is not coming paying this hidden gem a visit. I see a bright future for Coby and El Lugar.“

Autry Cellars Winery • $$
5450 Edna Rd, San Luis Obispo

“I have to admit that I actually didn't try the wines, as I'm not much of a "day drinker", even if it is just a sampling. However, I'm giving a five-star review entirely based on our experience with Mr. Autry.Although we told him from the outset that we just stopped by on a whim as we were in the area and weren't going to do a tasting he was still incredibly welcoming, entertaining and generally great company. His knowledge and experience far exceeds the boundaries of wine making.Although a small winery and very slightly off the beaten path I highly recommend that you stop by for a visit. It will be worth your time.“

“Mike (the winemaker) and his family hosted use for an adventure down the Riesling path and showed us how different it could be from vineyard to vineyard. From slightly sweet, to minerally, to dry. All excellent wines. He through in a German Gruner Veltliner which was excellent. It was paired with some charcuterie and great conversation. If you like the personal experience, this is it.“
