9 Best Wineries in San Luis Obispo

Sextant Wines Wineries • $$
1653 Maxwellton St, San Luis Obispo

“A highlight of our trip to the Central Coast! While it doesn't have a stunning view, it is a pretty, rustic, relaxing and charming place. Excellent wine! Excellent service too - nice people! What we especially like about Sextant is that instead of just serving bread or cheeses, you can actually get a meal here - and the food is very good - highly recommend!“

Wolff Vineyards Wineries • $$
6238 Orcutt Rd, San Luis Obispo

“Have been a member of Wolff for many years and visit whenever I'm in town - the beautiful view and delicious wine are worth the visit (LOVE their Chardonnay!) Was a bit windy so we hung out with Sharyl in the tasting room and had the most enjoyable time. It was such a great tasting experience - delicious wine coupled with her bubbly narratives and extensive wine knowledge. The vineyard is also a great spot to bring a picnic, buy a bottle (or two) and hang out.“

Chamisal Vineyards Winery • $$
7525 Orcutt Rd, San Luis Obispo

“We loved this winery so much we ended up going back a second day to just sit and drink glasses of wine. My husband said it is the best pinot noir he has ever had. I loved the sparkling wine and rose flight. Tim was the best. We really appreciated his kindness and explanations of the wines and winery.“

Filipponi Ranch Winery • $$
1850 Calle Joaquin, San Luis Obispo

“Classic Flight: $20/person for 5 pours (fee waived with every $30 purchase).Rustic, family owned and operated winery, just down the street from our hotel (Hotel Calle Joaquin). Stopped in at the end of the day for a final tasting. We were the only customers there, and the original owner's granddaughter poured for us. She had very interesting stories of the family's history, and we even got to meet her mother & father, the second generation owners of this winery. The wines we tasted ranged from a crisp Chardonnay, a slightly oaked Viognier, to a cool-climate Syrah. The property was originally a cow and dairy farm, and the old barn is still there. The tasting room has some cool "artifacts" like the cattle branding iron, which is also on the labels of the wines. There's a pleasant outdoor patio next to the tasting room, and we were told that they also have an area back in a small canyon where they host weddings and other events.Filipponi Ranch is a nice, little diversion when you're traveling through the area. It's located right off the 101. Definitely worth checking them out.“

Biddle Ranch Vineyard Winery • $$
2050 Biddle Ranch Rd, San Luis Obispo

“We love coming to Biddle Ranch! After coming here with a friend who was a member, we fell in love with the olive trees in the sitting area and the amazing wine. The staff is always very friendly and prompt, even on busy weekends. Biddle Ranch also allows you to rent out the venue after hours and we took advantage of this to have a small get together with come clients while our favorite central coast band played some tunes. All in all, it is our favorite vineyard in SLO Cal and we are proud to bring out of towners in for a tasting.“

Edna Valley Vineyard Wineries • $$
2585 Biddle Ranch Rd, San Luis Obispo

“A highlight of our trip to the Central Coast! The view is simply stunning! We sat outside on a clear but chilly day, warmed by the fire pit. The wines were delicious, and were enjoyed even more fully with bread and Edna Valley house olive oil. We happily brought both wine and olive oil home with us!“

Piedra Creek Winery Winery • $
6425 Mira Cielo, San Luis Obispo

“Love, love, love! Hidden gem for sure! My friends and I were greeted by the family dog and each a glass if wine just after parking. We were given a brief introduction to the estate and history (oldest vineyard in the Edna Valley). With only three tables, it was intimate and absolutely lovely. The matriarch of the family, whose home is located there, came out and chatted with us all for a few minutes. She was very sweet and kind. I appreciated their bottles not being overly expensive. Considering they have only been open to the public for a couple of years, I do hope in the future they install a proper restroom (currently a port-a-potty) and add food items (i.e, cheese, chocolates) to pair with the wine.“

Dunites Wine Company Winery •
1133 Garden St, San Luis Obispo

“Great little tasting spot in the middle of SLO! They have all natural wines, and the manager Steve will talk you through all the options. I had a glass of the brut cider (dry and delightful), and tastes of the Syrah-Grenache (my fav) and Pinot noir (Steve's rec). There are a few tables outside - in front and out back - as well as indoor seating. Some small snacks on the menu, but was also told I could bring my own food in if wanted. Definitely will be back for a glass or more when I come back to town.“
