28 Best Indian Restaurants near San Mateo

“A handful of dishes are excellent, but I really dislike all (except tikka masala) their chicken curries because they cook it in-bone chicken thighs.. also the rice has too much anise seeds it takes over all flavors.
The prices are fair though and the portions are good, customer service is good as well hence the 4 stars.“

“I had a fantastic dinner at Curry and Kabab in San Mateo tonight! The **Soya Chaap** was incredibly flavorful and well-textured, and the **Aloo Gobi** was cooked to perfection with just the right balance of spices. Pairing them with their fresh, warm **Naan** made for a truly satisfying meal.

If you're looking for authentic flavors and great service in San Mateo, this spot is a must-visit. Five stars all the way!

Really liked their wall paintings though“

“Tabla in Atlanta serves amazing Indian flavor in a chic, modern setting. Don't miss their Handi Gosht and Kurkuri Bhindi perfect for both meat lovers and vegetarians!“

“The portions are generous, and the staff are friendly, helpful, and attentive. However, the cuisine is not really my personal favorite, so the food didn't quite suit my taste.

Overall, it's a decent place if you're looking for generous portions and good service.“

“It looks like a small place from the outside, but the inside is big and the food is delicious. Very strongly suggested.“

“Clay Oven is our go-to Indian restaurant. Food is really delicious! We usually order a couple of Chicken Tikka Masala (mild and med spicy), Rogan Josh, Naan and some rice. I like their mango lassi too. The staff is really friendly and kind to our kids. Highly recommended!“

“Wanted to like this place more. Dosa Box is one of the ghost kitchens in San Mateo Food Mall. Ordered from the website for pick up. You get a text when it's ready, go inside and check in with the worker who is at the desk. They open the locker for you where the food is placed.

Our dosas were completely soggy. Would have been very good if it was still crispy. Although it makes sense that dosa would not be a good take out item. They could've poked holes in the box or put the masala potatoes separate instead of inside the dosa to maintain crispiness.

Also just a note if anyone was wondering, the masala dosa comes with sambar (since the menu is not clear about that).“

“Great bartenders, especially Joseph!“

“They use an AI call taker and there is no one at the store who can take a call. I left my glasses there and I called 5 times , each time I was forwarded to the store and then the call just dropped while I was waiting.

--- updated the score back because somebody replied here --“

“First time at dinner here. We started with rajasthani patta chaat . it was really good. very authentic taste from North India. paani puri was great too.
Dal Makhani deserves special mention. Cooked to perfection but why would they put sugar in it😏 my only reason for a 4. malai kofta and lachha parantha were great. I would recommend this place for a wholesome family meal.
might want to try their brunch menu someday. Heard great reviews about it.“

“We ordered Lamb biryani. It was very good, but the mild option was still pretty spicy. Mango lassie really helped temper the heat. Wait staff was very friendly. We sat at the table on the sidewalk during the street festival and enjoyed the atmosphere.“

“Excellent pizza, will try again. Pizza crust is authentic, masala is fresh.“

“This place serves really good Indian food! Recently, I came to know that they offer two types of thali. One comes with dal makhani, curry, raita, and salad, while the other is their lunch plate, which is available on weekdays during lunch.

The only feedback I have is that they could reduce the quantity of rice a little and include half a roti with the lunch plate and thali. That way, we wouldn’t have to choose between adding rice or naan—we could enjoy both.

Overall, the food is really good, and I would definitely recommend trying it!“

“The food is so good - I love the bowls and Ginger iced coffee! Thank you for the nice service too!“
