“I have worked around the corner from Bench for years. I only recently got into coffee and so I've tried pretty much ever coffee shop in the near vicinity and this is by far the best latte in the area. Don't forget there is an upstairs seating area with a table and chairs.

The only thing that I would prefer is to have a couple comfortable chairs upstairs. If I could sit in a cushy chair I'd be so happy! But it's comfortable enough to be my go to spot now!“

“#1 Fan ~ The food is amazingly delicious and healthy at moonbowls. I get a bowl at least twice a week, have turned many friends onto moonbowls, and have even had our staff lunch catered by them. I will say the pickup experience is a little weird but I'm slowly getting used to it. Using Doordash makes it super convenient and helpful. Regardless of the latter, the food taste and quality far outweighs the pickup experience so it is what it is.

“I had heard great things about Fava and their ex Chez Panisse chefs. I got to try it for the first time. It was even better than I thought it would be. I got the lamb sandwich (with cabbage, yogurt sauce, and fresh herbs like Persian sabzi, in a lavash like wrap that they make themselves.) I also got some lentil and kale soup with yogurt. So yummy. You can see some of the menu on the window outside as you wait in line (there will almost always be a line), and you can peek in and see the day’s selection of breads and pastries. “The absolute best food by far. Four of us out walking around Shattuck looking for a place to eat on a Saturday when we happened by Cafe Tibet (the jazz band brought us down this street). This is a full vegan restaurant with the absolute best food I have tasted in a long time! Rich and full of flavor and you can be served either family style or order individually, this cafe will do it any way you like. I highly recommend Cafe Tibet to anyone, vegan or not, for food that is delicious and rich in flavors. And definitely try the desserts. So good!“

“If you're a breakfast burrito fan, Southie serves one of the best I've ever had—anywhere. I've eaten great burritos across the Bay and in L.A., and this one easily ranks at the top.

It's perfectly constructed: ripe avocado, fluffy scrambled eggs, cheese, chorizo, and an onion-pasilla pepper relish, all wrapped in a warm, soft tortilla. The flavors are bold and balanced, and it’s finished with a smoky chipotle aioli that adds just the right amount of kick.

One of the things I love most is that it doesn’t include potatoes—just pure flavor, no filler. I keep coming back for this burrito, and it never misses.

“Best espresso of any of the highwire locations I have been too. It is a darker roast than I like, but they have a great recipe so it doesn't get sour or bitter. My only complaint, not enough seats, then again it is in a plant store, not a standalone shop, which leads to some amusing scenarios with entitled people like the scene I saw. So don't wonder far from the stand even if there is a line.

An upper middle class woman took a drink, sipped from it AND THEN ASKED "is this the oat latte for Sarah?" They called out the name of the drink and the person who it was for, CAPPUCCINO FOR JOYCE. Who takes a sip from a drink and then ask if it is yours. They did not apologize, making excuses, and saying oops is not an apology. This after having taken a sip from it. I would have charged her for it if I worked in that stand.

“The very long line of happily waiting customers was the first clue that this place was going to be something special. Then we had the delicious bagel, later we had the yummy vanilla strawberry birthday cake. But the next day we popped the buttermilk biscuits into the oven to warm and WOW... BEST BISCUITS EVER! EVER! “This is a beautiful store outside and inside. After stalking this restaurant on Instagram and after I missed pop-up events for Oktoberfest, I finally bought some pretzels. Yummy! It was well worth the wait. I scored some of the weekly specials, the pesto and mozzarella pretzel. I also bought the jalapeño and cheddar. I will never buy one of those pretzels off the street carts ever again. I used to buy Auntie Annie’s soft pretzels at the mall, but never again. I am officially a pretzel snob now. I am making plans to go back to Squabisch for the pretzel sandwiches. The fresh quality ingredients are evident in every bite.“

“A new contender for the best kalamata olive bread (4/5 Green Stars). It’s Day 3 of Shelterfest, sponsored by Coronavirus, and I was feeling kinda satisfied (i.e., less guilty than yesterday) after making an earnest attempt to work remotely. So I took myself off for an afternoon stroll and, landing in the vicinity of College and Alcatraz Ave, decided to pick up some bread if there was any to be had. La Farine was quiet and there was plenty of bread left, even at 4 pm. (So pop in to support them if you’re in the area!) I usually get their rustic baguette but this time bought a loaf of olive bread. The servers were super friendly and one asked me if I wanted some free pastries. Ya-ha I did! I scuttled home with my bag of goodies and heated up one of the freebies – a chocolate croissant (toaster oven, bake for 3-5 min). The croissant doesn’t look that amazing, I have to admit, but it tasted wonderful. Buttery, flakey pastry and just the right amount of good quality chocolate. Later I had the bread – I’m a big fan of Semifreddi’s Kalamata olive bread so the bar was pretty high. I have to say that it was up there with my favorite bread – it was a little fuller than the Semifreddi’s loaf, but that wasn’t a bad thing as I sometimes feel that I’m eating a lot of air with the latter. In summary, I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed La Farine before because I’ve gone there many a time. I recommend the three things mentioned above and also their Irish soda bread is really good and pretty authentic. I just found out that La Farine started out in this location in 1977 – almost as old as I am, said Bilbo. I'm also giving La Farine 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • It seems that they use conventional white flour and organic whole wheat flour. • Their website is lacking on information on ingredient sourcing (compared to, say Acme). I’d like to know more about their flour, eggs, butter, chocolate, etc. • La Farine donates leftover products to area food banks and senior centers • They also support Bay Area schools and other local causes • Their bags are made from post-consumer recycled paper and printed with water-based inks. • Most of the menu is vegetarian and some of the breads are vegan.
