“I had two fantastic meals at the 2800 Kitchen & Lounge at the DoubleTree at the Port of Los Angeles. For dinner, the Tostadas were yummy and with corn tortillas crisp enough that I could pick them up to eat. I also ordered Seasonal Vegetables, which were fresh and cooked to perfection. For breakfast, the Avocado Toast with hard boiled egg was also excellent, and came with the perfect complement of fresh fruit. Definitely coming here again.“

The red onion focaccia bread with herb and Parmesan butter, added Burrata - best- seller, a must. The 3 day brined smoked fried chicken-different taste, with soy and Chiles, a must!!!The Peruvian pork belly with sweet potato , Criolla and crispy quinoa , love it! And the Grilled NY steak with green garlic chimichurri, chorizo aioli and pommes pont neuf, thick cut fries…my son prefers over the fried chicken.“

“We heard about your birthday special of Turf and Surf and decided to take advantage of it. Easy to make the reservation online. We got there and were seated quickly. We had the calamari and shrimp appetizer which was great! We shared a bowl of the clam chowder which was the best I had in years! The birthday girl got the Turf and Surf and I had the Shrimp Pasta with vodka sauce. Both were very good! We ended up taking half of it home! Our server, Adam, was very nice and even took pictures of us to mark the occasion. Overall, we had a great experience! We would definitely do it again!“

However, Camille suggested a couple of dishes for us and they did not disappoint and in fact I would’ve licked the plates if it was publicly appropriate. “Everytume we go out around a Holiday, can be precarious. Restaurant only had a couple of parties . One guy at the counter bar. Right where're we requested our seating at reservation. Obviously, no one read the request and didn't care. Got the eye roll gesture body language. Typically, the Restaurant is on top of it. Still the fish tacos are outstanding and chicken nachos Loved the food. We've been patrons since Hudson House open and always will be!!“

However, today we took a chance, parked on the street near the restaurant & ventured inside. -- The decor is not fancy, but the atmosphere is friendly, light & inviting. And, the smells coming from the kitchen, as well as the custom coffee drinks was enticing.
-- Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, explained several dishes, answered questions we had about drinks, menu options, made solid recommendations, and easily took our orders. -- The drinks arrived fairly quickly, followed a few minutes later by our requested orders. Our meals were hot & freshly prepared as ordered (& had not been left sitting under warming lights.) The items we chose were very tasty, the fresh fruit cups were chilled & appeared to be prepped shortly before the meal was served. Very nice. Long before we had finished eating, we'd decided we would be returning to this hidden little gem on PCH to adventure further into the menu & sample some additional treats prepared by the chef & staff. “Surprisingly short wait time for Labor Day (15-20min) it was hot and humid outside would’ve been nice to come into a more cooler environment but restaurant was clean host was welcoming as well as our waiter Meghan she was nice the only thing was after we got our food we still needed couple of side things like drink refills, some ranch for our chicken strips and steak sauce but our waiter never came back by to check on us for a while so we had to flag down a different waiter. The shortrib meat was tender and had flavor and the sauce on top was so good! The corncakes on bottom really made the whole dish my absolute favorite! Next, we tried the Strawberry Sunrise pancakes (buttermilk pancakes topped with whip cream and butter) The chicken strips with fries were cooked perfectly. Juicy on inside crunchy on the outside.we had the Pineapple upside down pancakes! (Buttermilk pancakes stuffed with sweet pineapple) I had the 2 stack and they were delicious and very satisfying I would order that again for sure. We also had the Steak and eggs with home potatoes and it too was very good. Will be coming back regularly There were 4 adults and one teen in our party and our bill came out just a little over $150 with tip around $175“

Food quality has always been great, and I’ve always loved the design of the place. Been a while since I’ve seen Christian, so I’m assuming he’s not around anymore. That really sucks because Christian was the BEST. The service is still nice, but just not what it used to be. Not close to the same energy. None of the employees even look me in the eye for some reason. One time when ordering, it felt like the cashier was talking to someone behind me lol

“I have an unreasonable amount of affection for Nordstrom restaurants. West or east coast, if there’s a Nordstrom restaurant somewhere near me, I’ve probably eaten there. I’ve had a Nordstrom card forever. I’m the audience for this place. So Bazille in Torrance isn’t getting judged against some imaginary standard. I’m judging it against a lot of Nordstrom meals. And the frustrating thing is that the food here is mostly very good.

The chicken tacos are probably the thing I’ve ordered most. Crispy shells, ground chicken, avocado, cheese, greens, that cilantro chipotle situation happening on top. When everything is right, they’re fantastic. The flavor combination just works. They can get a little sloppy, the chicken has occasionally been aggressively salty and they don’t travel particularly well. My most recent delivery arrived with the tacos already getting soggy despite ordering the aioli on the side. Still good. Just nowhere near what they are fresh at the restaurant.

The cilantro lime chicken salad is essentially the same universe dismantled onto a plate and it’s another favorite. The chicken here is surprisingly good across the menu. The chicken katsu is solid, the burger is excellent and the kids’ menu is legitimately useful if you’re eating with young children rather than treating them as an inconvenience somebody accidentally brought into the restaurant.

The tomato basil soup deserves its own mention because that thing survived delivery beautifully. Piping hot when it arrived and tasted exactly as it should. Even the fries are good. Just do yourself a favor and ask for them without the rosemary unless rosemary on french fries happens to be your thing.

Where Bazille loses me is service. It’s wildly inconsistent. I’ve had one server here repeatedly who is fantastic. Warm, attentive, remembers what the table needs, everything you want. Then I’ve had visits where getting basic things feels like filing paperwork with a municipal government.

The host stand might be my least favorite part of the restaurant. The physical setup itself is awkward. There’s this strange barrier/bar arrangement where you’re never entirely sure where you’re supposed to stand or whether anyone has acknowledged you. The welcome can range from genuinely friendly to complete indifference. For a Nordstrom restaurant, where hospitality is supposed to be part of the proposition, that inconsistency is particularly noticeable.

And apparently I’m not imagining the service issue. Other recent reviewers describe staff chatting among themselves, difficulty getting refills and forgotten requests. That’s pretty close to the inconsistency I’ve experienced myself. I can’t speak to some of the more dramatic complaints in the reviews because they didn’t happen to me and I’m only reviewing what I’ve experienced.

The room itself is pleasant, although the architecture is a little peculiar and depending on where you’re sitting, the California sun can absolutely cook you through the windows.

But here’s the simplest test. Will I come back? Absolutely. There are too many things on the menu I genuinely enjoy, the kids can eat here and when you get one of the good servers, Bazille reminds you why Nordstrom restaurants have been such an oddly reliable part of my life for so long.

Fix the front of house consistency, pay a little more attention to execution and this could easily be a five. Until then, it’s a very solid four.“
