“Sampled Gyoza, chicken katsu curry, and ramen. I loved every bite. The curry is perfectly flavored and the portions are very reasonable.
There are less dining options on this side of the island, Sumo Ramen is a must visit.
The owners are kind and courteous as well.“

“this is a great spot inside the mall, if your companions are not vegan they have other choices bear by. the vegan tan tan ramen was delicious, pleasantly surprised for a ramen spot found inside a mall. this one hits the spot! the peanut butter tare is not spicy at all so if you like spicy ask for additional spice.“

“Found this place last minute when I was around the area. I'm so glad I did! Hole in the wall, local gem, mom and pop shop. The food was so delicious! I got the Wongton min, that one comes with noodles. The wonton soup just comes with wonton only FYI. I also got a bbq beef stick.
The day I went, it was really hot, humid I was craving for something cool but stumbled on this place cuz I was craving noodles. The broth was so good and really just soothed my soul. Everything was amazing and I wish I got the larger bowl.
The follow day I took my friend and she said this was the best wonton soup she had in a very long time (since her mom passed). We both really enjoyed this place and recommend, will be going again next time we visit Oahu!
This place is small and parking is limited but ppl don't stay long. The ppl who work are really nice and this place is always busy so be patient if they don't sit you right away, even if a table is open. They got you, they know what they are going if they have been in business for 79 years! 😬“

“I stumbled on this place by accident (one would have to as it's in the very back of the Market), and I ordered the takoyaki, the karaage, and the Miso ramen. I was a little worried when the karaage first came out because it was very dark and I was worried it was overcooked. It was slightly crispier than I usually prefer, but very good. The takoyaki were also excellent - the subtle extra crisp made for a delightful final product. The Miso ramen, however, was delicious! No notes, except for one to myself - don't leave the ramen until last, as the meat on top did cool down quite a bit before I started on the ramen!
Be prepared to fight for seating, and woe betide anyone that wants to bring a large group here.“

“Rich and umami sesame and miso broth that isn't too salty, perfectly balanced, with springy noodles and fresh greens (just as for no egg and the vegetarian ramen is instantly vegan), the perfect comforting bowl of ramen with the Daikon Salad on the side (just ask for no Bonito Flakes).. I don't know WHAT the previous reviewer was going on about calling the ramen bland, it was great and I'm glad I went (will be back for sure). The Diakon salad is super refreshing, service was phenomenal, don't overlook this hole-in-the-wall! It gets busy because it's so good!“

“Stopped by the other evening to give Tanaka Saimin a try. I called in my order and it was packed up and ready when I arrived. The young lady that assisted me at the counter was super sweet. We got Tuna Cheese Melts with Miso Soup, a cup of Corn Chowder Soup and a scoop of their Macaroni Potato Salad.
We thought the sandwiches were delicious but would've loved a more crisp exterior. It came with a choice of Miso Soup, Fries, Mac Salad or Toss Green Salad. The Miso Soup was full of tofu and had a good flavor. The Corn Chowder was full of Potatoes and Corn and was delicious as well. The Macaroni Potato Salad had a great flavor and paired well with the sandwiches. I'd recommend stopping by if you're in the area. If I get the opportunity to return I plan to try the Won Ton Min... that looks good!“

“One of the best bowls of ramen and most delicious takoyaki I’ve ever had!! I tried the Vegan Tantanmen ramen with added tofu. The broth was so good-rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Great portion as well. The takoyaki was perfectly crispy on the outside, with a soft, smooth inside and balanced umami taste. Can’t wait to go back!“

“Was it only me or did this restaurant close for a while? I was surprised to drive down Smith Street and see that my old favorite was open. I had to check dear old Google to figure out the hours of operations since a lot of places have very specific open/close times and also dinner and lunch service schedules. The place looked exactly the same since the last time I dined here. One of the first things I noticed is they were short-staffed. The single SUPERSTAR server was doing EVERYTHING from taking orders to busing tables to expediting food to cashier and hostess... I was surprised they didn't have her cooking the food too! I was so proud of all the diners for having so much patience and being extremely nice to the waitress. Now, on to the best part of a review, THE FOOD!!! I started with the pork belly bao then on to my favorite BELLY BOWL which is their Ramen with all the vegetable goodies and bacon and sausage! Yes, you heard me, bacon and sausage! I couldn't leave without having my old favorite nonalcoholic beverage, their famous tropical iced tea... Black tea infused with lychee flavoring! So refreshing! The location of this restaurant is in the heart of Chinatown, which will always struggle with Parking. On street metered parking is available but very limited, especially at lunchtime. There are public lots, but make sure you read the signs because it's very specific to what restaurants and businesses they support , and hours of operation for weekday/workday Parking. I would hate for you to get your car towed! The ambience is great and can get loud depending on how busy the place is. Lucky Belly is worth checking out if you're in the area!“

“Impeccable service coupled with amazing food. I come from Irvine so we got good ramen but damn not like this. The atmosphere was cozy and homie. No obligation to dress up all fancy. Just a good focus on service and food. Employees are really cool, nice and helpful. We even watched the Max Holloway BMF fight on our phones. Def check this place out whether it’s for good vibes or great food.“

“Gyoza, pronounced like "dumpling", is actually "pot sticker". The fillings are cabbage, leeks and minced pork. It's crispy, not greasy, and has just the right salty taste. It's delicious without adding soy sauce.
Various restaurants are surrounded by a small indoor food court (Lanai), with a spacious space and a leisurely atmosphere.“

“Nice little ramen restaurant next to Don Quitos. I ordered the tsukemen and it was good. The broth was flavorful with a slight spicy kick, fatty and aromatic with woodland mushrooms and an ajitama egg. It was well-seasoned but served lukewarm, and I would have preferred it hotter. The noodles had a pleasant chew, though a slightly thicker cut would have made it even better.“

“**edit 10/20** been here 2 more times now, its my go to lunch place when im in the area for authentic Japanese food? Tried their Tonkotsu ramen with side rice and gyoza, and also the Daily Special which was the Aimori bento (chicken karaage and ginger pork). Friendly service and food that is made to order??**
Legit little authentic Japanese diner/take out place that I stumbled upon looking for another restaurant in Honolulu. Located in the building with restaurants on King Street and Keeaumoku, where Sushi Sasabune is located. This place is at the end to the left.
There was a late lunch crowd when i walked in so took a little while to be seated. Note that this place is run by two people so if youre in a rush, this isnt the place for you as the food is prepared on order so it takes some time.
They were running a promotion the day i went, which was Niku no hi, or Meat Day where if you ordered a specific meal, you would get 150% more. Since it was my first time here, the waitress suggested the popular Karaage Fried Chicken Plate, which I gladly ordered.
Took a while for the meal to arrive since there were two parties seated in front of me, and their meals looked great too... Especially the ramen. When my meal arrived it was piping hot, the way I like it. Squeeze the lemon on and it came with a shoyu dipping sauce that I felt didnt need. The chicken was crisp, not oily and already marinated before fried just like you would eat in Japan.
There was more chicken than I could eat in one sitting so I took half of it home. Would recommend if in the area, Im sure their other dishes are excellent too?5 stars.
Parking: Free parking lot in the back of restaurant and street metered parking in front (free if on Sundays)“

“I'm a regular customer here and come often because the food is amazing and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. I went there tonight and there was group of rude people saying they re going to leave a bad review and ruin the restaurant reputation @Yang Xu, but if you're going to leave a review at least be honest about what happened. The person writing that review skipped everyone in the line waiting outside then sat themselves down at a table I'm guessing was reserved because they got asked to wait outside like everyone else. I got sat right before them and when they sat down the older man in the group threw a menu across the restaurant (in his review he said they gently moved it to another table, LIES), and demanded priority over everyone else who was also waiting patiently. The staff asked them to be mindful of the other guests and they started being disrespectful and giving attitude to the waitress who then refused service to them. That's when they left saying they're going to leave a bad review. The staff deserve credit, not unfair criticism !
You guys handled that situation amazingly!!!“

“Located at the end of the stix Asian market, this restaurant offers Taiwanese style beef noodle soups. I tried the combo noodles of beef, tendon, and tripe. The broth was beefy and not too fatty, although it came with some orange lard product on the side that dissolved into little oil droplets on the surface when added. The beef was not chewy, but not super tender either. It had a good flavor. The tendon and tripe both had good texture, a bit chewy in a satisfying way and with unique flavor. I was glad I got to try them. There are 3-5 pieces of each type of meat and I wish there was a little bit more since the flavors and textures were great in the soup. The noodles were also a perfect hand-cut texture and right between bouncy and soft.“

“Good if you want ramen and something quick. I came here on my break and ordered a sukiyaki ramen with a side order of kakiage tempura. Food came out in about 3-4 min. Ramen is standard, nothing too special about it. I was disappointed in the kakiage tempura because it was soggy right after I received it.“

“While browsing through Island Grocery Depot's Kahului store, I came across a pack of Sun Noodle's Tonkotsu Ramen. Already loving their Shoyu version, I was hesitant about trying it because I'm not a huge tonkotsu fan, mainly due to it's color and creamy flavor. Luckily, this bet paid off!
TONKOTSU RAMEN:
The 2-serving pack comes with separated fresh noodles and 2 packets of base. When I make ramen using fresh noodles, I always use 2 pots, one to boil the noodles and the other to boil the dashi, then throw the noodles in to have a searing hot bowl of ramen, the only way to eat it. The directions state to dilute the base in 10-12 ounces of water, 12 was perfect. The flavor was really good - creamy, porky, and is a little thicker than traditional broth. I wish I could've decorated it with toppings but this was just a quick lunch in between my day-off list of chores.
OKINAWA SOBA:
These fully-cooked, thick, white noodles also comes in a 2-pack tray. Even though the noodles are pre-cooked, most folks will want to boil them a little longer as they are super al dente. The dashi flavor is a mix of bonito-beef-shoyu. It's a different, unique flavor that I could probably get used to.
YAKISOBA (PLAIN):
The 6 ounce package of full-cooked yellow noodles doesn't come with any dashi, so it's up to you to find your own seasoning. Luckily for me, my mom has tons of dashi packs from the Saimin noodle bags, so that goes perfect with these noodles as a stir fry. Toss in some sliced Spam, bean sprouts, shoyu, and oyster sauce for added flavor. You'll definitely need at least 2 packs to feed one person.
YAKISOBA WITH SAUCE:
This 11.5 oz. package is the better of the two, mainly because it comes with powdered seasoning. I pan fried some Spam, fried the noodles for a bit, added 1/4 cup water, then added both packets of seasoning, which wasn't overly salty at all. Delish!
SAIMIN:
They offer 2 styles, one with a thicker noodle in the white bag, the other thinner in the clear & orange bag. Both are 2 servings in 1, and come with dashi packs. I love these both ways, either as traditional saimin or stir fried.
SHOYU RAMEN:
Our local Costco sells these as a 4-pack, so I get 8 servings of piping hot, salty shoyu ramen on demand! They freeze well and I don't even have to thaw the noodles to cook. The packets of shoyu-oil thaw out in no time, and the end result is ramen shop quality & taste. Just add your own toppings.
MISO RAMEN:
Having had horrible-tasting miso ramen in many-a-restaurant, I was hesitant to try this. I'm happy to report that their version rocks! The broth was full of flavor and depth, and when combined with their eggy-flavored noodles, sent this baby into orbit! Highly recommended even for the miso hater!
FACT:
Ramen Lab in NYC was ran by Sun Noodle, and featured guest chefs that cooked in front of you while seated at a traditional ramen bar. Wish I got to try them!
OVERALL:
Another winning product from this now nationwide company that started out in the 808. Can't get good ramen at a restaurant, like on Maui? Head to your grocer's refrigerator and grab a package of this diamond in the rough good stuff and settle that craving!“

“It is hard to get a good meal in the mall's food court, but I must say that the Champon here is very good and a healthier option that fills you up and is tasty as well. I got the Fujiyama Champon which is their largest portioned Champon. It is loaded and you need to be hungry for it. I must admit that I had big eyes when I ordered it and couldn't finish it. What I like most about order Champon is that it is made fresh, packed with lots of veggies, not oily or heavy, and tastes great. Much rather have this then Ramen which is just noodles, an oily and salty broth, and a some meat. Being that this is in the mall food court, it isn't exactly going to be the type of place that has a bend of backwards type of service, but they are friendly for the most part and get your order right.“

“Open air food court. I went early and it was not noisy yet. Ordered the the Special Miso Ramen. Wow. What got me was the amount of Charsiu included. Had 6 good size pieces, soft and tasted great. Was not chewy at but all. Miso broth was a little thin, but when I mixed in the butter wow the broth came alive and thickened up to my liking . Nice picrc of Bamboo Shoots and not the thin slices you get elsewhere. Corn, geen onions and bean sprouts piled in rounded out everything. I enjoyed the bowl of Ramen immensely also because I'm a big fan of Charsiu which made they had more then many other Ramen shops I've been to. I'm going back soon
Parking: I was in the Handicapped space and there was no charge on the ground level“

“Anytime my mom asked, “Do you wanna go get Ayame ramen?” my answer was always, “Yes! YAY, Ayame!” As a kid, this was the first place I ever had ramen that wasn’t from a cup or a packet, and it made a huge impact on my tastebuds and what I’d be open to trying for the rest of my life.
Their curry and ramen are both incredible. I still remember staring at the fish cake, wondering what it was, but loving the flavor and texture, and thinking the bright pink swirl looked so cool. I even started putting chili oil in my ramen at a young age because of this place, I loved the heat and the flavor.
This place left such a lasting impression on me, and I would love to revisit and experience that nostalgia again, especially with my mom. That’s the heart of what makes a great restaurant, when someone loves their food enough to share it, and it becomes part of your memories together.
Wishing your restaurant many blessings and continued good fortune. I hope the families who come in today get to enjoy the ramen as much as I did, because 20 years later, I still remember that first bowl.“
