“Meril, Meril how I love you This is one of our favorite spots to go for date night or just meeting some friends for dinner and delicious cocktails. Service is always top-notch. We usually have a main waiter and then someone assisting with the table. But don't take that as a stuffy, uppity place to be, it's very casual and nice to have servers taking care of the table all throughout the meals. Apps: we decided to make a meal out of appetizers, and we kind of went overboard. Definitely small plates but big enough to share with leftovers if you do it right. We decided to order appetizers and make that our meal. We chose the Bacon Braised Collard Greens from the daily specials. We also chose Smoked Fish Dip, Crispy Cod Sliders, Deviled Eggs, Korean Fried Chicken Wings and Pad Thai Cauliflower For cocktails we started with English Turn(grapefruit but not sour), Tchoup(cucumber deliciousness) and Albariño(smooth white wine). All so good! It was also our 11 year anniversary and they surprised us with some cotton candy and a sparkler! Perfection!“

“Bob Boudreau and I were in NOLA for 9 nights. Three of the nights we had reservations at other places with family. Our 1st night we looked up and found Jewel of the South. We loved it so much. we asked our nephew, his medical school advisor and his wife to join us. All three lived in NOLA and had never been here. All 5 of us would definitely go back in a heart beat. Great food. Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Great staff. GREAT ALL AROUND! FIVE STARS for Jewel of the South.“

“The next time you’re in NO, make a reservation at August! You’ll thank us, I promise. 🤤 FIVE STAR REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The meal started out with a “gift from the chef.” A savory leek custard, topped with pumpkin mousse and a sprinkle of sweet & salty crunch, presented in a perfectly carved eggshell. We were given spoon bread as well, which was the lightest, airiest and creamiest corn muffin ever to cross my lips. The sommelier told us that the secret ingredient was sour cream. I guess the secret is out now! 😉 Our sommelier suggested Pinot Noir. Monty chose Belle Glos Las Alturas. Let’s just say that we started shopping for it online immediately after the first taste. It has a fuller body than a typical Pinot Noir, so smooth and juicy. Such a perfect pairing. 🤌🏼 Monty had the pecan-smoked venison tartare with celery root and mountain rose apple. The flavors and textures were out of this world! We combined a few bites of the tartare with a bit of spoon bread. Omg, I’ll say it again: Out. Of. This. World. 💥 I ordered the gnocchi "black and blue" with black truffles, jumbo lump crab and parmesan. Tender, yet slightly firm, with a delicate, pillowy texture, but the truffle took it to a whole ‘nuther level! They gnocchi’d it out of the park with this one. For dinner we shared duck three ways with Bayou Cora grits, foie gras, confit, chestnut mushrooms and cherry bounce. Y’all, I’ve had foie gras, but never before like this. An intensely flavorful silky texture that literally bursts on your tongue. It was absolutely divine. Dessert was hummingbird cake with creole cheesecake, bruleed banana and pineapple ice cream. I just don’t know what to say except the pastry chef knows exactly what she is doing!! This was definitely meal to remember with the love of my life, my favorite dining companion, and my partner in culinary escapades. I love our journey of flavorful adventures, seasoned with spice and a love that mirrors the diversity of a well-crafted menu. “We were on vacation for one of our kids wedding The hotel we were staying at is located just in front of the restaurant What an amazing find to have this kind of food and wonderful atmosphere right around the corner of the hotel in walking distance Less than 5 minutes Can’t say enough about the staff from the hostesses to the servers and the wonderful chefs The 1st time we sat at the bar to watch the food being made which helped with selection 2nd time we sat at a table because we knew what we wanted Overall experience with my family coming to the restaurant is you’re missing out on one of the best kept secrets Absolutely delicious and wonderful meal From start to finish My Family & I want to say thank you so much for taking care of us and making us feel at home“

“We had 2 dishes; Beef Stroganoff and Grilled Pompano and Dessert was the Ginger Cake Cake. Beef Stroganoff: Imagine tender strips of beef, seared until just browned, then simmered in a velvety sauce made from sautéed onions, earthy mushrooms, rich beef stock, and a generous swirl of sour cream. The sauce is silky, slightly tangy, and deeply savory—each bite feels like a cozy hug. Served over a bed of buttered egg noodles (or sometimes rice or mashed potatoes), the dish becomes the perfect balance of textures: the soft noodles soaking up that luscious sauce and the beef adding hearty, satisfying depth. “I visited the location on Ponchatrain in Nola last night _ I will NEVER dine in late at night - The host was outside playing with the managers dog in the parking lot - She walked in the side door and greeted me picked up the menu and NEVER sanitized or washed her hands. The server complained about it being slow- My food came out cold- The manager on duty last didn't care- They put my side dishes in the microwave They served me the same cold chicken I sent back and just put it on the grill for a few minutes. Horrible customer service experience and the quality of the food was worse.“

“One of the best meals I’ve had in New Orleans was at Toups! We had a charcuterie board with their house made hogs head cheese, chicken liver mousse and foie gras accompanied by house pickles. Simply incredible!! The hogs head cheese was the best I’ve ever had! I especially loved the chunkiness of it with nice pieces of tender pork! The crispy turkey necks! Oh my goodness… AMAZING! The braised lamb neck entree was exquisite with a generous portion and crispy spaetzle! Even leftover, it was great!! I also had their pork chop and applesauce cocktail which was creative and also delicious!! I highly recommend this restaurant! Great work Chef Isaac and team!“

“Had a solo dinner here tonight and received fantastic food and service. The beef fat griddled waygu and potato pave were sensational - pair it with the corn babies for an over the top experience. The bar was equally wonderful; the Autumn Oracle was especially noteworthy. Service was so loving and friendly; I lingered far longer than necessary just to savor and converse. If the persimmon ice cream is available, GET IT. PS — I see racists and homophobes have review-bombed these folks, so bring your queer dollars and support the family as they serve up amazing eats and inclusivity.“

“I was looking for a lowkey place for dinner after working all day and this was the perfect choice! The ambiance was great, food was top tier and the service was exceptional. Mason was my server and he made amazing recommendations. I had the gumbo, brisket, and a desert to go. All were amazing! Even other servers were kind and welcoming (hi Jimmy!). “We paused for a drink after dinner and I am delighted that we chose this establishment. Tristan and Chelsea provided exceptional service. Tristan crafted an outstanding habanero margarita, one of the finest I have ever had. My mother, aunt, and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I will certainly return. I recommend you try for yourself! “Just wanted to say thanks David. We had a blast at your place. We caught the football 4th quarter, and had great cocktails. The staff member Anna was very friendly and did a A+ job shucking 3 dozen oysters that were perfectly done… clean and left the liquor in them. I was so pleased I tipped her $30 separate from the tip on the check / server. I just wished we lived there so we could return frequently. BIG Thank you for your hospitality. It was a highlight of our very awesome trip to NOLA.“

“Had a stellar evening here after coming based on recommendations.
We arrived at happy hour time and chose to sit at the bar despite open tables (a great choice!). We were lucky enough to be sitting across from bartender Liz K, who was world-class.
She was able to make detailed, tailored recommendations based on our cocktail preferences and we were delighted by our drinks (we shared a total of 5). Standouts included the Fun Fact and the Mississippi Cup. She also helped us select some delicious bar bites, including the Chicken Liver Pate which was unbelievably delectable.
If you are a cocktail enthusiast looking for a large, exceptional menu, fresh ingredients, experienced and friendly bar staff, and delicious food in an upscale, intimate atmosphere - this is the spot for you!“

“Sooo good! We went on a Saturday and I had the pot roast with rice, green beans, and Mac and cheese. As a Mac and cheese lover I wouldn’t really recommend it here but the pot roast was so tender and the sauce it was in was delicious! My man had the red beans and rice with the fried chicken and that was also amazing! The fried chicken was actually wings and they were so crispy and delicious!! Overall must try!!!!!“

“This is a serious dive bar but don’t let that deter you. The food is fantastic. We hit the midnight crawfish boil on Saturday and did not regret it. Even with how busy it was, the bartender was upbeat and friendly, and honestly the vibes were good.“
