“Food and Service are top notch as you'd expect at a Union League Property. Interior is decorated nicely, and has an open feel. Despite the well hidden acoustic attenuation panels on the ceiling, the dining area is very loud as the noise from the bars spills into that area. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and hustle to serve guests and reset for the next wave of patrons.“

“Nice open space to spend time with family and friends. Casual. Inside and outside seating. Drinks are a little pricey (but it's Avalon) and there is a 2hr parking limit (street meters). We had finger food and drinks and had a great time sitting at the humongous and beautiful bar.“

“Historic establishment with a great bar and friendly locals vibe. Just had drinks with a salad for 2 and the best clam chowder. I especially liked this chowder because the white sauce was very smooth and rich without being starchy. They obviously used cream and not just corn starch as a thickening agent. So not just a bar but some real ‘cheffing’ going on. Good for them.“

“Worst experience of my life! I had my micro wedding here and was charged for things I didn't get. No drinks were verbally offered they just had a separate table with pitchers of water on it. We paid $100 extra to have a table set up with lemonade and or iced tea pre ceremony. I was supposed to be able to set up my wedding favors on this table as well. The seafood dish was supposed to have scallops in it and we noticed they omitted them. In the private beach area where we were supposed to have our ceremony they had an event going on up to 15 minutes before my ceremony. They had picnic tables alongside the ceremony just overlaping and pushed against the fence I had to ask them to move so they would not be in my pictures. I had barely any time to set up decorations. The air-conditioning was broke supposedly in the whole restaurant they could not even provide fans so my guests were very hot and uncomfortable. The upstairs was supposed to be our rain plan but we asked if we could have everything up there and the GM would not allow us to move to the upstairs that was air-conditioned and not being used but I was allowed to change into my dress upstairs. We were told it cost more to have it upstairs. I felt like considering the air conditioner not working they should have moved us. Honestly I could go on and on but I'm too exhausted! I felt like I missed out on a lot of photo opportunities and moments bc of how hot and uncomfortable everyone was!“

“We've ordered 'Build Your Own Pot' twice from Topsail, OC. All fresh seafood...lobster, scallops, shrimp and crab. We highly recommend. It was so easy to steam on the stovetop! We grilled steaks and had a DELICIOUS dinner for eight at our shore house. We will be ordering again for this 4th of July!“

“Custard was pretty good. We wanted to go to a la mode but the line was wrapped around the building at 9:30 so we figured we’d try something new.

We got gelaties and custard.

“every year my extended family and i go ( 20+ people) here during the summer and the service is amazing. the seafood here is amazing along with all their other food. I remember coming here as a kid and having a great time playing in a sandbox they had. I recommend lobster, crab, and chicken parm.“

“I grew up near the Chesapeake Bay and can tell you that Canal Side does crabs right. Their own seasoning blend is very good and they sell bags of it. The local crabs are just a bit smaller on average than Chesapeake crabs but that's ok, their flavor is great! 🦀“

And next stuffed shrimp w/ crab imperial and stuffed mushrooms are great tasting. Also bacon wrapped scallops are a hit, try w/ sweet chili sauce. The lobster roll sandwich is made to perfection. We sat at Katie's table, and she was delightful & efficient. We all enjoyed our food - my husband raved about the Ricotta Pancakes. Our friends had the omelet, and the Breakfast Burger. Raves all around! The pastry basket contained a delicious assortment; Katie generously brought out a second basket. We walked in with a bottle of sparkling Rosé to accompany brunch - an ice bucket magically appeared without us saying a word! The friends we dined with had a family event in the back solarium two months ago, which was wonderful according to their review. Brunch was absolutely lovely, and set the tone for a relaxing Sunday!“

The team provided an outstanding setting, ensuring that our event ran seamlessly with great hospitality and delicious cuisine. It was great to have Mickey and the crew handle all the details of the event so the guests could enjoy themselves and it was exceptionally nice because this was in the offseason. I would absolutely have another event there in the future during the summer or during the fringe seasons based on this experience.“
