50 Best Japanese Restaurants near River Edge

“I’ve been twice to the restaurant. First time - takeout, second, today, eat there. Food is quite good, generous portions, some unusual touches. Very friendly service. Prices are quite fair. Happy to recommend the restaurant!“

“Is it a crazy idea that this place is best in NJ? No. It’s the best!! Good fresh fish is hard to come by, even places in Ridgewood that are fancier rarely have such good fish. Been coming for 15 years even when I lived far away. It’s fairly priced. That means some will find it more expensive compared to what they experienced elsewhere. It’s well worth it! I see all people here who are regulars. Coming for years. That’s because the quality here never fails!“

“Had an absolutely amazing dining experience. From start to finish, Jojo gave us the best service and attention. The food was not only delicious, but of the highest quality. Ryan was our waitress and she was so sweet and attentive. All of the servers who attended to us were kind and detailed in their explanations of the dishes. It was truly a night to remember and now one of my favorite spots. Highly recommend!!!!“

“A hidden gem on the UWS! The lunch omakase is less than $40, and even the premium omakase is only around $60 including tip. Honestly, that’s cheaper than many regular restaurants in NYC, especially for omakase.

The sushi was great, the staff were super friendly, and the service was excellent. Amazing value for the price. Definitely coming back!“

“Omakase 95 is absolutely incredible! I can’t believe we waited this long to try it.

We both did the 15-course menu, which was 100% the right choice. I’d also highly recommend sitting at the counter. Watching everything being prepared right in front of you is part of the experience and really gives you a bird's eye view of the magic and art that goes into each course.

There wasn’t a weak dish in the entire meal. Tbh, when I saw that the menu started with two appetizer courses, I wondered if they might feel a little like filler before the main events. Not even close. They ended up being some of my favorite dishes of the night.

Everything was exceptionally fresh, beautifully prepared, and perfectly seasoned. We also tried the Nigori sake which we loved. The staff were also warm and friendly.

And the value for the quality of the food and the overall vibe is honestly hard to beat. We left already talking about when we could come back. This is absolutely going into our regular rotation.Don’t sleep on this place!“

“Best sushi / sashimi / poke / boba & everything else on the menu on this side of the Mississippi, actually probably both sides of the Mississippi honestly.
I’ve eaten at many similar style places all over the tri-state area, nothing beats Poke Express

Gina & Tony are the best“

“Great authentic Japanese plus modern inclusions. Options for the whole family“

“Ordered via GrubHub for a late Friday night dinner when the sushi craving hit. I ordered a tuna bowl, and hubby had a salmon bowl. All of the sushi bar bowls come with edamame, miso soup, seaweed salad, kani salad, regular salad (in this case, it was arugula), and avocado. The fish came in huge chunks, lightly marinaded, and tasted fresh. No complaints. I’d order again and try some actual rolls next time. I saw on their menu a pretty good deal for lunch - $12.50 for three regular rolls, so I’ll have to check that out.“

“As a fellow New Yorker who loves Dominican People and Food, this is a MUST-GO!
I got the Chicken Teriyaki Dumplings and Calamari for appetizers “DELICIOUS”
For Main Course I got THE LAMB CHOP w Mashed Potatoes and salad… The Food was excellent and the staff was very attentive and professional… I am definitely going back and they’re open till 2am for Late Night City Dinners you can enjoy… ZORO is a MUST-GO!“

“Well presented Japanese cuisine“

“It was my replacement for Tomoe downtown after it changed to tomo21. the fish became half the size, the price much higher, so I stopped going. Last time, their chirashi fish became a bit thinner. i hope they don't follow suit, and make it thinner and thinner.“

“Love love love this place! The staff is amazing and the food can’t be beat! My absolute favorite place in Ridgewood!“

“Service was wonderful and sushi was excellent!“

“Definitely one of the most overwhelming and beautiful places that I’ve ever been to try sushi in my whole life, there’s no way to describe how good it was.
We wait a little more of what we expected.
But wait was worth it food was fresh, homemade and delicious, attention it’s def a 1000/10 you feel that you’re in your home, my 5yo daughter mentioned that she was being treated like her grandma treat her (so you can have an idea of how good they were) well, not many words to add.

Definitely coming back even when I have to drive 21 miles to go there“

“We stopped in for lunch for the first time. We enjoyed beef negamaki, shrimp tempura and a salmon roll. The food came out piping hot and fresh. All was delicious and the price was very reasonable.
The atmosphere was quiet and the dinning serene. We will be back again soon.“

“Everything we had was amazing and tasted incredibly fresh! The sushi was delicious, and you could really tell the ingredients were high quality. I also had the yuzu drink, which was so refreshing and perfectly balanced—not too sweet at all. Our server, Sebastian, was very attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. Definitely a place I’d come back to!“

“Excellent food, in a casual setting.“

“I loved the place—it’s very nice, with a clean atmosphere and incredible, delicious food. Just one recommendation: improve the customer service. It’s terrible; the waiters don't pay attention to the tables or what the customer needs.“

“Very friendly staff. Food was delicious. Wish we lived closer.“

“Sushi by Sea omakase experience was impeccable from beginning to end. Every detail was thought filled, from the warm, fun welcome and attentive service to the exceptional fish selection. Chef Chris created a superb, creative menu. Each bite felt intentional, highlighting the freshness of the fish with subtle details of house made sauces and garnishes that were exceptional.
What makes Sushi by Sea so special isn't just the extraordinary food, but Jay and Chef Chris' genuine hospitality and personal connection that make you feel like old friends at a dinner party.
Arrive as strangers, leave as friends~ truly captures the spirit of this incredible hidden gem.
Bravo, Jay and Chef Chris!!“

“So good . When you order takeout fried food, they wait to the last minute of your delivery time to put the food in the fryer. Don't complain if you have to wait a few extra minutes . To get hot crisp food instead of soggy cold stuff that steamed it self cold in the togo containers. LOVE THEM.“

“It's been years coming to parsley, I mean how can you not come here. Let me explain to you that this woman all by herself is managing this place. From Onigiris to Tuna Don, Maze Gohan as well as ramen soups. I mean everything is so perfect. She has a great selection of sake to die for as well as beer. Without mentioning that there is a variety of Wines. Excellent for Dine in and takeout. Overall, a great place for dates, as well as coming alone. You will not be disappointed.

Vegetarian options: Tofu soup, Vegetable Gyozas, vegetables Onigiris.“

“We have been ordering from poke zone for months and it has been our favorite spot in the area but the last few times, we noticed a drop in the freshness of the ingredients and it hit or miss which means they have been storing them for the next day or two instead of using fresh like they used to be. Sad“

“Ordered the Chicken Katsu and Chicken tenders. Both came with sliced cabbage and rice. Both were equally delicious. The breading was perfect and the meat was tender.

They do take reservations and I would recommend making one if you have small children, they have a limited amount of high chairs.“

“We had dinner at Matsu on Friday......its a little gem in Hillsdale. We were pleasantly surprised, by the quality and quantity of the food. The Staff went out of their way to accommodate us. They very friendly and warm. It was a most enjoyable dinner. We have ordered food to takeout but hadn't been inside the restaurant since the pandemic.... We will definitely go again soon. It was a great experience and we both recommend you give it a try!“

“absolutely delicious service was great .🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤“

“Lychee martini and seafood ramen“

“Really nice people and excellent sushi! Cute little place for a date and its byob“

“It is with a full stomach and heart that I am able to publicly share how wonderful Blu Sushi is. Not only is the fish the freshest, but it run by welcoming and friendly staff, chefs and owners. It is not often that you find a restaurant without any criticisms, but then I found Blu. The dining and take-out experiences are how all food establishments should be run. The staff are clearly happy and supported which makes it, without question, a smaller establishment that I am happy to patronize. If you are reading this and considering ordering or not, just do it. You will not be disappointed with the high quality for a great price . Thank you Blu, for the amazing food and homey feel :)“

“very tasty. great price. great staff.“

“Good food!🍱 a little bit dimly lit but it’s probably to make it feel and look cozy.“

“Star Sushi was a really pleasant surprise. From the moment we sat down, the place felt welcoming and comfortable, and the staff had that good mix of being friendly without hovering. The whole experience had a calm, easy pace, which made it enjoyable right from the start.

The sushi itself was excellent. Everything looked fresh and put together with care, and the flavors were well-balanced instead of feeling heavy or overly seasoned. Each bite had that clean, satisfying taste you want from sushi—nothing felt bland, and nothing tasted like it had been sitting around too long. The rolls were solid and filling, with nice textures and a good mix of ingredients.

What also stood out was how smooth the service was. The timing was right, the order came out neatly, and it felt like they actually pay attention to the details. Even though it was busy, it didn’t feel chaotic.

Overall, Star Sushi is a great go-to for anyone craving well-made sushi with a nice atmosphere and genuinely helpful service. It’s the kind of spot you leave thinking, “We should come back here again soon.”“

“I don’t leave reviews often, but I had to because we had the kindest waitress of all time tonight. First off, they opened up the back section of the restaurant just to accommodate our group. The waitress was soooo sweet, especially to my baby niece and nephew. She gave them light up headbands to wear as well as pretty Christmas ornaments to take home. I have never experienced such great service. Also, the food was delicious (as always), and the babies loved the food too!“

“The food is fresh and delicious. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is super-friendly & attentive. Will definitely come back!“
