“Is it a crazy idea that this place is best in NJ? No. It’s the best!! Good fresh fish is hard to come by, even places in Ridgewood that are fancier rarely have such good fish. Been coming for 15 years even when I lived far away. It’s fairly priced. That means some will find it more expensive compared to what they experienced elsewhere. It’s well worth it! I see all people here who are regulars. Coming for years. That’s because the quality here never fails!“

“PHENOMENAL! I was a little leary of omakase in East Harlem and at the price point, but this place hits it out of the park. Very simple ambiance and decor but made up for by very charismatic service staff and professional cooks. Splurge on the premium omakase, it's worth it for the chutoro...nice and fatty. Will definitely give Sugarfish a run for their money and it's nice to see uptown. Meal can get a little rushed at times given the high turnover; however, the pace keeps it moving. Nice to see this quality food and experience uptown, and I will definitely be back.“

“Had a fantastic time for our first experience here. Every piece was fresh, my ginger plate never empty (and I never had to ask), and the price is unmatched for the quality.

My favorite pieces were the botan ebi (shrimp), hotate (scallop), and the chu toro. I’m honestly surprised that shrimp made my list, as it isn’t typically a nigiri I enjoy. But this was so fresh, so delicate, and raw — as it should be! I also ordered the special hotaru ika (firefly squid) and kinmadei (red snapper). The ika was particularly unique, but the snapper was my preference of the two special items I ordered at the end.

Husband loved the chu toro. Shoutout to the toro handroll as well.

The sake we ordered — Kikusui Junmai — was light, crisp, dry, and slightly nutty, just like I like it. It paired excellently with the menu.

A group of girls next to us were celebrating a birthday and the sushi creation they made for the birthday girl was stunning. I saw it had toro and caviar and a few other things I couldn’t tell from my vantage point. They finished it off with a quick spray of gold glitter. A beautiful touch.

We are eager to go back and to bring our friends! What a gem to have in the neighborhood. Go go go!

“Many people seem to enjoy this place, and there is a good variety of food and drinks. The food was generally quite good, except for the jjimdak (steamed chicken). It looked amazing in the menu photos, but it arrived undercooked and had to be cooked longer at our table, which took quite a while. When it was done. it was also a bit spicier than we expected as well
The restaurant was very busy on a Friday night, with people waiting for tables. Because of that, it felt like there was some pressure to finish and leave rather than relax and stay for a long conversation. In that sense, it felt more like a traditional Korean restaurant than a bar where you can sit with friends and talk for hours. Overall, the food and atmosphere were good, but the dining experience felt a bit rushed.“

“I got so lucky when I randomly stumbled upon this place while getting lunch at work. As someone who loves chicken teriyaki trust me when I say you must try theirs. I have been searching for the last few years all around the bergen county area for the best chicken teriyaki and I have found it here. This is my absolute favorite! I have tried probably 50+ restaurants and nothing can beat this. From the way they prepare chicken, to the homemade sauce they use, the perfectly cooked rice and the avocado, egg and dumplings they add on.... it is one of the greatest combinations i've ever tasted. On top of that, their sushi is always delicious and fresh. If thats not enough, they also have fantastic owners and workers there. I always get a warm greeting, and they're thankful for my patronage. Fantastic all around. I will be back soon... My favorite sushi spot!“

I also got the green salad with ginger dressing, which tasted so fresh and flavorful. The shrimp shumai were honestly addictive. “Positive vibes and a great experience. I’ve visited this place several times in person, and I’ve also done takeout a couple of times. The most recent time was takeout. I needed to feed a small group and asked about platter offerings, but was told they don’t have any set menus. They asked what I was looking for and made some recommendations to fit my needs and requested budget.

To say that I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. They delivered and then some. It was a combination of various sushi, regular rolls, and specialty rolls.

They also asked about any potential allergies in the group, along with any specific preferences or dislikes.

The food was fantastic in taste and presentation. It was well packed and came with plenty of ginger, wasabi, and miso soup. They also gave me delicious tea while I waited for them to complete my order.

Club music was too much & a tad loud. Chefs working at the sushi counter were not engaging at all but looked unhappy. They never said a word, not even hello or good bye. Servers were attentitive & somewhat friendly. Later on a gentleman, maybe the owner, had good energy & greetings. Omakase would have been better if the sashimi was not warmer than room temperature. Ramen at the end was strange & unnecessary. No dessert was included and that would have been better to finish the meal with. Prices are fair. BYOB is a major plus. Next time will not do omakase, as neighboring people were enjoying their a la carte dishes.“

“I have to say, I have tried plenty of AYCE sushi spots and “A Sushi” hands down has to be the best. The fish itself is so fresh, the portion of rice to fish is perfect. Some places use a lot of fillers or extra rice to fill you up but not here. Every bite was honestly so tasty. I ordered 6 rolls, shumai, and a few other kitchen appetizers. Our server was very polite, attentive, and smiling which made the atmosphere feel welcoming. “By far one of the best Korean Japanese restaurants. I’ve been ordering from Sea Shai since 2021/22 & the consistency of the food and customer service is always amazing! The flavor of the food is spectacular. I travel to Sea Shai to pick up my order because it is several neighborhoods away, totally worth the drive. The food is priced fairly for the portion and flavors you are receiving. Highly recommend trying this restaurant out. I cannot get enough of the Bulgogi with white rice platter, A M A Z I N G!
