I had called prior to arriving asking for availability of high chairs for my 2 toddlers and Fernandez has prepared a booth prior to our arrival. The rest of the staff as well. Incredibly welcoming and kind. The food was also delicious. My son loved their Dahi ke Kebab more than the tenders and fries loll. The Sona Zafrani Kebab were also delicious. My and my husband’s personal favorite was the Chicken Karahi. Especially if you prefer a lighter spice level without compromising on any flavor and thats a huge compliment coming from me since i live for spicy food. All in all a wonderful experience. “My family and I have been going to Uncle Don’s Kitchen for the past 4 years. One and only best Jamaica restaurant located in Hicksville. The staff is friendly and personal with every customer. They make you feel welcomed and appreciates customers. The food is perfectly portioned and tastes flavorful and fresh. They do make a very unique chicken with Mac and Cheese that I ask for all the time since my kids love them. The stew chicken, jerk chicken and fried chicken with rice and peas are on point. “I saw a lot of hype about this place on social media and me and the guys happened to be in the area so we thought that we'd give it a try, because who doesn't love Afghani food?

We had the onion rings and chicken shawarma loaded fries as an appetizer and that was really good. Juicy chicken and really good sauces drenched over the fries that somehow managed to stay crispy.

We had the fried fish platter with rice, the grilled lamb and grilled chicken chunks with rice, and the chicken kebab and beef kebab with rice. The kebabs were good and flavorful. The fried fish was crispy and delicious. The rice was excellent. Salads were fresh. The grilled lamb pieces were ok. The grilled chicken chunks looked well seasoned but definitely we're dry and unflavorful. Highly not recommended. I am not a picky eater but this chicken was not good. It left a lot more to be desired from the presentation.

Unfortunately that was my order and i shared with the guys and they also agreed with me. Thankfully they shared back their plates which helped make up for my not so great meats.“

“After spending all morning playing games at the next door Round1, this restaurant was a good spot to get a relatively inexpensive and filling meal. Luckily when we visited, they had a promotion for buy one get one 50% off for adult entrees. I also had some reward points saved up which I redeemed for $5 off and a froyo cone. Lunchtime was quite busy but the line moves relatively quickly. They have cute little carts for food trays so there's no awkward game of balance as you try to spot a free table. You can grab your own metal utensils (forks, knives, spoons) and peruse the cold offerings like dessert, sandwiches and salads before getting to the hot food area.

We got an order of classic Swedish meatballs and feeling adventurous also added on an order of their plant-based meatballs (which did not hold a candle against the classic Swedish meatball). IKEA members get a free hot coffee or drink so be sure to grab a white cup for this. Teabags were by the register and hot water was by the hot coffee dispensers. Glass cups are for the soft drinks.

8 meatballs is a good portion for one person (since the dish comes with mashed potatoes, gravy, lingonberry jam and peas). We shared 12 Swedish and 8 plant balls and left absolutely stuffed after clearing both plates. Also sampled a bit of all the soft drinks they had available and I liked sparkling pear and sparkling lemon (reminds me of Sprite...but healthy?) the best. Made myself a milk tea by adding a bit of half-and-half and a packet of sugar to my hot tea.“

“Bakhtar Afghani Restaurant – A Hidden Gem of Authentic Afghan Cuisine Halal restaurant

I had the pleasure of dining at Bakhtar Afghani Restaurant recently, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and the inviting aroma of grilled meats and spices made it clear we were in for something special.

The hospitality was top-notch. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles, and our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to recommend popular dishes. We felt truly welcomed, as if we were guests in someone’s home.

We started with the Bolani, a traditional Afghan stuffed flatbread, which was perfectly crispy and flavorful. Then came the mantu – Afghan dumplings filled with seasoned ground beef and topped with yogurt and split peas – absolutely delicious and delicate in flavor.

The highlight, however, was the mixed grill platter. Each skewer was grilled to perfection – the chicken kebabs were juicy and well-marinated, the lamb chops were tender and bursting with flavor, and the kofta kebabs had just the right blend of spices. Every bite showcased the richness of Afghan culinary tradition.

The rice dishes deserve their own praise – the kabuli pulao in particular was phenomenal. Fluffy basmati rice layered with sweet carrots and raisins, paired with tender chunks of lamb – a true comfort dish that felt like it was made with love.

For dessert, we had the firni, a creamy Afghan rice pudding, subtly flavored with cardamom and garnished with pistachios. It was the perfect way to end our meal.

The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the quality of the food was outstanding. Whether you’re familiar with Afghan cuisine or trying it for the first time, Bakhtar is a must-visit. It’s a place that combines authenticity, flavor, and heartfelt service in a way that’s hard to find.
