“Probably the best “upscale” restaurant in and around Woodstock. Great atmosphere, very Manhattan like, and you will also have to pay city prices. However, the food is totally worth it from the quality you get, preparation, presentation, and of course taste. The only thing that wasn’t my cup of tea was the rose water infused dessert. I’m not a big fan of “infused desserts” in general and also this one couldn’t convince me otherwise. Will definitely come back when in Woodstock! Also: make reservations. The place fills up even on a regular weekday.”
“We're hanging out at the dive bar down the road and the bartender there recommended we come here for some good drinks. And my oh my were they good. I never believed in the science of mixology or that a mixologist was a skilled tradesmen. But the old man who made our drinks must have been the Gordon Ramsey of Bartending. Your average bartender is a frycook by comparison. I had a few of their signature cocktails as well as a Manhatten and an old fashioned; my go-to drink so I've had a lot of them from a lot of different places, and never in my decades of life have I tasted such a perfectly mixed old fashioned. It was sublime and I doubt I'll taste its equal again in this lifetime unless I find myself in Kingston again and this man happens to be behind the bar once more. He also whipped up some scratch-made eggnog with alcohol and it was exquisite.”
“Want a great wine list (without an hour-long wait for a seat)? Come here. Want a yummy little snack with your wine? Even better! I wouldn't call Sonder a hidden gem, but perhaps an undersung highlight of Kingston in general and midtown in particular.”
“This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff is also really friendly. They know what they're doing and what they're talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is pretty good, some Japanese & sushi classics and some twists, and for their prices it's 100% worth it.”
“Great place for vegan/vegetarian food. Super delicious with a great take on traditional “meat” dishes. Even those who are not vegan or vegetarian (like my partner) will love it!”
“Got a couple of egg and cheese sandwiches on our way out of town. They took a few minutes because they really are made to order, but service was excellent. The sandwiches were fresh and delicious, and we picked up a loaf of the chocolate babka to take home. Also grabbed some frozen pierogi, which meant we didn't have to wait for the shop around the corner to open.”
“This is the best meatball sandwich I’ve ever had! The combination of amazing meatballs and the most delicious marinara sauce. Really great service too- patient and efficient.”
“This is a definitely state-of-the-art restaurant. Everything we had was top-notch. The wine was perfect. The service was perfect. The atmosphere was perfect. The oysters were absolutely perfect. The lamb was perfect. And the facility was perfect.”
“This place has a classic American tavern feel. There is bar seating and table seating. There are a couple of sections (a big back section which is where our group of 11 was seated). Food was delicious and they had a couple of options - bar snacks, appetizers, salads/soup, mains. The price of main entrees run from $20-$30. Service was also great.”
“Excellent service, best Caribbean in the area. Taking away one star, because there have been a Couple of times where the Oxtail has been really fatty pieces. Maybe some like it that way, but not ideal for me.”
“Easy, comfy, good food. Plenty of locals there so you know it's good. Good prices. Not fancy, but a great place for pleasant, relaxed dinner.Kid-friendliness: Absolutely”
“Good music, great people, awesome service, delicious food. From the garlic fries, to the homemade hot sauce on the buffalo wings, to the fantastic service from Angelica. Wonderful visit to the colony”
“I chose to get dinner from El Rey super last minute and I was blown away by the enchiladas rojas with carnitas. Some of my favorite Mexican food I’ve ever had! The churros were also pretty good. Definitely will be going back.”
“This is not your average old school Hudson valley ice cream shop. They take care of you like they are, but they have a modern looking building and menu and great customer service. I’m on a keto diet so I got a burger and hot dog without buns. They might not look enticing from the pictures but they were great and fit right into my diet.Dietary restrictions: They accommodated my keto requests no problem. They even wrapped my burger in lettuce for me.”
“Best bookstore in Kingston! I'm not a coffee drinker but I do love their hot chocolate. I order the same thing every time I stop by ( Small hot chocolate and a cookie) .This place is super cozy with an awesome selection of books. If you can find a seat on a less busy day your in luck! It's a chill place to meet up with friends or get some work done. Staff is always friendly and helpful. If your new to Kingston definitely check it out it's one of a kind.”
“Love my experience every single time I come to we got the juice. Atmosphere is always top notch! Sandwiches are delicious and juices are the best! Please stop in and get yourself a juice or sandwich for lunch you won't be disappointed!”
“Laid back atmosphere with good music and a good selection of brews. I went on $5 draft Monday and that is a great value. Got the Kaaterskill IPA and the red IPA (can't remember the name), sampled the Juniper Ridge and ended up leaving with a 4 pack of it. Many restaurants within walking distance as well so you don't have to go far to get a good meal after your visit”
“really good restaurant in an area where these are a few and far between. The chef balances, creativity, seasonality, and good straightforward, cooking to create a range of compelling menu items, so much so that it is hard to pick. There is a large and inviting hearth in the kitchen, so we try to choose dishes that were fire kissed. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and the drinks list has everything you need including a lot of well selected and clean Wines.”
“We were traveling through on New Year’s Day and looking for coffee. Found this great place open. Warm inviting and what we all need in my opinion. It was a welcome treat to find books on the very topics that had been circling my mind for the last few months right there on the shelves. No judgment just information to help you stay on track and want more. Thank you for opening a place like this. And in such a beautiful spot for discovery. Happy 2024 and keep it up!”
“I should not have chosen a pasta dish - it is clearly not there forté.I'll be back to try sonething else.Parking: Prepare to spend some quality time in your car as you search for parking.”
“This place is great and I can't recommend it enough. Not only is the quality of food amazing but the staff and service have always been extremely friendly, welcoming with a non-pretentious attitude. This place is accesible for local Kingston residents, unlike some of the gentrification cafes that have popped up in recent years that cater strictly to tourists or recent, wealthy transplants. The prices here are actually fair- like it doesn't cost $12 for a breakfast sandwich with no meat on it- fair. Very clean and like I said, high quality taste in food. I always get a breakfast sandwich but their lunch options are great too. There is no better place to get a breakfast sandwich in Kingston. I love Fat Cat !”
“We came for a Valentine's evening out on the 15th, much calmer than the 14th! The grilled oyster, scallop, squid, and crispy rice appetizer was tasty. We shared the 5 spice Duck Breast, with cucumber, pear, hoisin sauce and Asian pancake, (the combination of flavors in this dish was outstanding) and Vietnamese grilled Lamb with pickled daikon and carrots. The lamb was cooked perfectly but the pickled veg was jarring against the Thai seasoning of the lamb. Might just get Duck x2 next time :). It was a suddenly snowy evening so we passed on the libations for safety reasons. Overall a wonderful celebration in a beautiful space!Dietary restrictions: The server proactively asked if we had any restrictions or allergies!”
“Being lactose intolerant and gluten sensitive Sweet Marisa’s is a gift from heaven. Marvelous choices warm environment and friendly staff. Put on your “must visit” listen when in Kingston N.Y.”
“This Cafe is a hidden gem! The decor is amazing and inviting, the food is delicious and the staff is so welcoming and attentive. The BEST latte I have had in the area.”
“Fab food and classic elegant designed dining room! LOVE the history of the local brick indistry!! The food is always exceptional and happy hour is best in Ulster County!! Super staff with friendly smiles!”
“Stopped in here on a Wednesday around 12:30PM when I was just passing by the city. There was only one other couple in the restaurant eating when I got inside. It seems like they have a lot of interesting options but I just went for a double scoop protein bowl of tuna. It was kind of expensive for what you got out of it but it tasted fresh and the pineapple miso sauce was really good! The workers were extremely nice and it was overall a good experience!”
“Awesome food - I don’t come here enough and I need to change that. Little oasis outside in the back that is worth sitting outside and watching the coy pond. Food is authentic and made with heart. The inside atmosphere is a little weird but food makes up for ”

“One of my go-to places in Kingston. Taco Tuesday is a favorite - too many good tacos to mention. The rice and beans are the best around. Never had a bad meal - always fantastic!!!”

“Had another great family dinner tonight at the Hurley Mountain Inn! It’s been our family favorite for many years now. Always a good home cooked meal, always great service from folks who make you feel like family. The kids love the games and we joined them for a game of pool. If you are a local to Olive (like us), Hurley, Marbletown, Kingston or the surrounding area and haven’t been (in a bit or ever) or a visitor to the area, take a ride over for a great drink menu and always yummy specials. Thank you Steve and the whole crew for being a place we can count on for a good family night out!”
