“It's a good little bar with darts and a pool table. Only knock is they only take cash. I understand why, keeps you from getting out of line but in today's society cards are replacing cash almost everywhere. FYI, the jukebox has just about every song you ever expect to hear in a bar, ever.“

“157 Tavern has been a staple in the area for 10 years and is an excellent choice for parties or group gatherings. You can simply provide them with your budget, and they will curate the menu for you, which makes the planning process very convenient.

Regarding the food:

Grilled Spanish Octopus: Highly recommended. The potato pave is delicious, and the octopus is tender with a perfect charred exterior.

Short Rib with Bone Marrow: The meat is very tender and falls apart at the touch of a fork, though I wish the portion of bone marrow was a bit larger.

King Salmon: Quite tender.

Burrata Cheese: Standard/average.

Caramel Flan: Delicious and beautifully presented.

Overall, it is a great spot for a nice dinner.“

“I was very impressed, moonlighting in the bartender night life for the last 20 years. I normally don’t go out to bars. My sister and myself were down at Lenox hospital for our Dads surgery. One of the desk staff at Franklin Hotel recommended Penrose! The staff, manager and bartender were so friendly. I have to say I was very happy. Okay, you already know it’s about to be a great night when you have someone like Levi greeting you. Then I am ushered by Tiffany, warmest greeting on the planet, and she explained what the space was about, the concept, even going into deep detail about the cocktail menu, curated by the brilliant minds of Nick and Dan. You can tell this place has heart, everything is done intentionally to the best of its abilities. Beyond the immensely impressive cocktail menu made by the best bartenders I’ve ever laid eyes on, the food is AMAZING. Seriously greatest food I’ve ever had, thank you John. So for my evening, I was delighted when I was ushered to the backyard, amazing ambiance.

Chris was out there working the drinks, man what a guy, he made me something called a Cuba libre and it was so nice, and then he made me one of the signature cocktails on the menu. Okay let’s talk about the music, whosever doing the booking over there and curating the night is doing an incredible job, the dj set by Cosmo was proper - no crumbs left.

Definitely top 5 places to catch a vibe in the entire state of New York.

No issue with availability and service, very attentive.
Chicken dish with sauce ok, but asparagus flimsy and green bean sized while mashed potatoes served ice cream scoop and lacking in flavor.
Long awaited favorite of mine, fish and chips.
Fish better than most in area, still lacking in wow factor while the (chips) were a flimsy mess , no crisp or seasoning.
As to beer, Stella was fine but Blue Moon dark and flat.

“Stopped for a cocktail after a day of museums and dumplings and walking, they were perfect. I loved my mule and the milk punch was great too. We got to try a cucumber cocktail as well, so good. “I stumbled upon this spot after my original dinner plans failed. I hadn’t seen it before and it was a random weeknight but I went in and I was immediately greeted by the warmth of the staff (one who I assume was an owner?). I’ve been back a few times and it’s a solid place.

A great selection of wine & knowledgeable servers who can help you figure out what’s best for your taste. I LOVE the Caesar salad, like genuinely top 3 of my favorite Caesar salads! Pizza is great (I had the heartbreaker and also had a build your own).

My Boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday at Jr & Sons. We sat at the bar and had the most wonderful experience with the bartenders Max and Brenda. The host JJ was also incredibly friendly and checked on us as we were sitting close to her at the end of the bar.
The food was Phenomenal! We went all out with the Big Ice which is a beautiful array of different raw bar items. The broiled octopus was absolute perfection.
We then moved to the burrata ravioli which were like little cheesy pillows with crispy prosciutto on top.
Then the whole Branzino arrived and we truly COULD NOT STOP EATING IT! I knew we had to have dessert and the staff pick seemed to be the chocolate pistachio sundae. It knocked our socks off, I don't know what magical sorcery is in that ice cream but it will keep us coming back. Thank you to the entire staff for a wonderful evening and we will be sure to comeback to our favorite new restaurant in Williamsburg!“
