One of the desk staff at Franklin Hotel recommended Penrose! The staff, manager and bartender were so friendly. I have to say I was very happy. “This is a cool spot and often has a great crowd. You can catch the football games on the projector. Please be warned, they force a 20% gratuity on your bill even just sitting at the bar. Maybe they do this because people don't enjoy tipping for extremely slow service which you will probably encounter. (The bartender with the glasses is pretty good though) On top of that, they nickel and dime you with a 2.5% credit card surcharge. I have never seen that at a bar before.“

“Great small and quaint bar next to the 7 line this was like my fourth time frequenting this wine bar. The bar itself is very cozy and with unique decor. Besides serving many wines they have cocktails with unique names and beers. We were there for happy hour and had wine with a spread. We also ordered a charcuterie plate. We enjoyed playing a card game and stayed until the jazz performers played their numbers. We really enjoyed our night.“

No issue with availability and service, very attentive.
Chicken dish with sauce ok, but asparagus flimsy and green bean sized while mashed potatoes served ice cream scoop and lacking in flavor.
Long awaited favorite of mine, fish and chips.
Fish better than most in area, still lacking in wow factor while the (chips) were a flimsy mess , no crisp or seasoning.
As to beer, Stella was fine but Blue Moon dark and flat.
Better luck next time.“

My Boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday at Jr & Sons. We sat at the bar and had the most wonderful experience with the bartenders Max and Brenda. The host JJ was also incredibly friendly and checked on us as we were sitting close to her at the end of the bar.
The food was Phenomenal! We went all out with the Big Ice which is a beautiful array of different raw bar items. The broiled octopus was absolute perfection.
We then moved to the burrata ravioli which were like little cheesy pillows with crispy prosciutto on top.
Then the whole Branzino arrived and we truly COULD NOT STOP EATING IT! I knew we had to have dessert and the staff pick seemed to be the chocolate pistachio sundae. It knocked our socks off, I don't know what magical sorcery is in that ice cream but it will keep us coming back. Thank you to the entire staff for a wonderful evening and we will be sure to comeback to our favorite new restaurant in Williamsburg!“

“(Nov 2014) Uber cool high tech mod fitout and no shortage of opinionated beer nerds (complete with obligatory cult brewery t-shirts). Even at 2pm on a Sunday arvo. Doesn’t quite have the warm of a traditional US bar but still pretty friendly. Very international list with a focus on left of centre. Pricing on the high side but reflects the quality of the beers. Served via cabernet glasses - a nice touch. I really grew to like the place and they use a small space well. Can I say it reminds me of Two Row in Melbourne? And....btw....the only other bar I have ever seen where punters are punching out tasting notes!“
