50 Best Cocktail Bars near South Richmond Hill

“So I’ve been going to “Sohna Punjab” on Atlantic Ave in South Richmond Hill, for over a year now and after trying everything from dine in, takeout to even delivery, this “hole in the wall” is probably the best Indian restaurant not just in Richmond Hills but in Queens period. Don’t need to go to Manhattan as we’ve the best in Indian food right here in queens. They have an extensive menu and probably the only Indian restaurant that does non-veg as good as vegetarian dishes, and do everything on the menu well. Their portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. I would recommend from the appetizers, tandoori paneer tikka, soya malai chaap (I haven’t had chaap like these outside of India anywhere else ever), chilli paneer Sohna, gobi Manchurian and from non-veg appetizers, chicken malai tikka, chilli chicken Sohna, lamb chops (probably the best lamb chops anywhere in NYC period), and their mix grill platter was delicious and from Sohna Punjab specials, do try Chole bhature, Amritsari kulcha, and their Biryanis were not too shabby either (it’s a North Indian restaurant but they can match any South Indian restaurant in all kinda Biryanis) and from Main course, I’ve tried their dal makhni, palak paneer, baingan bharta, kadai paneer, paneer makhni, navratan korma, and shahi paneer was probably the best I had in New York and from main course, I love their butter chicken, of course, chicken tikka masala (personally my favorite and they would adjust the spice levels according to your taste buds), and their goat dishes are simply outta this world, especially, goat bhuna, goat Rogan josh, goat kadahi and while you’re there, do try their fish entries especially fish tikka masala-salmon and their bread taste so good that I have always ordered extra and everything is good and prepared fresh in the tandoor from chilli garlic naan to garlic naan and lacha parantha and Sohna Punjab is one of the rare restaurants to even make “makki ki roti”. I can assure you one thing though, if you ever tried their food, you’ll definitely go back for the quality, quantity and price and you’ll love to spread the word of mouth as I’m doing here because this “ hidden gem” of the Indian restaurant and owner needs to be shared and talked about more often. I’m kinda surprised that not too many people, Indians and non-Indians, know about Sohna Punjab. I never had a bad time here and always look forward to eating at Sohna Punjab. Thanks and take care“

“Williamsburg was largely unimpressive until I tried this place. I was there for breakfast and their French toast is the best I've ever had so far. Not your typical toast where you pour syrup on top. This bread is perfectly moist and sweet and does not require syrup. There is a creme topping you can pour over that made for the perfect combo. There are so many places that claim best pancakes, best French toast, etc. French toast, here, is a must. Now I want to come back and see about the pancakes. For savory, we got the merguez omlette. I am not a huge sausage (the sausage not pork, might have been beef) fan, but this was really flavorful and I would absolutely order again. I am usually not excited about brunch, but this place does it for me. And, the ambiance is excellent. I love the exposed brick and overall decor. I could not stop commenting on how positive the experience was and how much I want to return. And, I am one of those people where virtually every place is forgettable except the ones that are not. This is my current #1 for breakfast/brunch until further notice. Highly recommend for all occasions (and that you make reservations in advance). Definitely going back soon!“

“Stay Away!!! Just kidding, this spot is popular and rightfully so for all the right reasons. The atmosphere is bot chill and warm for lounge lizards wanting a great watering hole. The drinks are fantastic, The Monk Fashioned being my favorite, reminds me of a magical Sazerac. The food here is delicious too, been a couple times and look forward to returning again soon. Love the Sweet And Salty Grilly with Gruyère, Prosciutto, Fig Spread, Arugula on Sour Dough. “I’d like to start off this review by saying that I am a Latina woman, who has been to Pokito many times and been treated with nothing but kindness and respect - as such, I felt the responsibility to share my personal experience here having read another review below.

This past Friday evening, my sister and I stopped by Pokito for a drink after a concert. We sat up at the bar, and they were quite crowded but to be expected for a Friday night. Unfortunately, there was a super loud group sat at a table behind us that was making it difficult for my sister and I to hear the bartender, or eachother. Having lived in NYC for five plus years now, I’m no stranger to a loud bar - but this was over the top.

At one point, someone screamed so loud that it startled my sister and I, and we turned to look over our shoulders to see what was going on - It had escalated to the point that my sister and I couldn’t have a conversation a few inches from each other because this group was yelling so loudly. At one point we made eye contact with the loudest person at the table - their review says they apologized to other bar patrons for their noisiness, but they certainly didn’t apologize or acknowledge their behavior to us.

So we felt relief when management asked the group to quiet down. We thanked the bartender for helping make the environment more comfortable so we could carry on our conversations together. Turns out, the bartender was Latino (like my sister and I), so we chatted for a bit. The manager was also behind the bar, who also identifies as a person of color, and was nothing but kind and lovely.

At one point, as the noisy group were leaving, one of them came up to the bartender and had what looked to be a defensive conversation. My sister and I didn’t engage, but I did check reviews because it seemed like they were heated - so when I found their review below claiming that their treatment felt discriminatory, I felt compelled to share my experience as well.

As a Latina woman, I’m all too aware that we live in a world where discrimination runs rampant, and I will be the first to come to someone’s defense. That said, I can wholeheartedly say that this was NOT the case at Pokito when the loud group was kindly asked to leave. It’s a very dangerous and loaded accusation to suggest that a business owner - let alone another bipoc person - is somehow prejudiced towards their customers. After my discussion with the bartender and management, I see them as very fair and warm people, who seek to create a comfortable and welcoming experience for all of their guests.

So long story short - if you are a person of color considering going to Pokito, I would like to reassure you that you will be treated with nothing but kindness and respect by staff (of whom many are also people of color!). That said, if you are loud / inconsiderate/ drunk / obnoxious and infringe on others’ experiences at Pokito, then management may exercise their right to ask you to be respectful for the sake of other guests :)“

“Super unique and delicious maple praline brown butter pancakes! More cake than pancake. The wait was not long to get a table and the service was prompt, professional, courteous, and didn’t leave us in want of anything. All of our needs were met. Food was prepared much quicker than expected and was all very good! I would definitely recommend this!“

Food and drinks are unique and fantastic. Portions are small, but like, very much by design? Like that’s what they’re going for shareable plates. Especially liked the 30 slices of beef skewer.

Loved every cocktail I got. Milk punch and the caipariniha riff (can’t remember the name). Just lovely, tasty, unique drinks.

Staff was so welcoming and warm. You feel like you’re a guest in the home of the people who work there and they all live together.

Music did seem a little loud when I walked in, but then I didn’t notice it. Didn’t have trouble hearing, and great music.

Apparently there's a 2 hr gap between brunch and dinner. The booking site allowed for a 4pm reservation. When we arrived we were accommodated but looked at funny. We found out that brunch had ended at 3pm. I was really hoping for the full experience I seen here and paid alot and didn't get it.“

My only complaint would be how noisy the dining areas are- it's a popular place so it's always packed, and the subway tile on the walls bounces the voices and noise. Only had the oyster from the happy hour, as they are a good deal for $1 each, but the rest of the menu looked quite varied and interesting. The drink menu was great, in particular if you like Martinis the variation is quite good. Had the Deux Chats as it was the $13 option, it was great gin martini with nice celery hints. The Pomme Fumee is an interesting martini with scotch and a touch of apple. Martini Jardin was a cool tomato and herbal experience, even if you pop the tomato cherry garnish on yourself! Battle of Puebla had the Mezcal and hibiscus salt working well in synergy.

The staff was nice, professional, and efficient. The music selection was on point, with lighting, furniture and decor added to the overall experience. Prices are standard for any upper tier bar, although the happy hour prices are a great value. Give it a look if you are near!“

“We had our wedding at Rialto and couldn’t imagine a perfect ceremony and reception.

Dominic and the Rialto team were incredible. Super attentive and went out of their way to make sure our day was as special as can be.

We have no idea how but they managed to make sure the food was always fresh and hot when served, even the branzino, which is not easy to do all at once for ~75 people. Seriously impressive.

They really outdid themselves and we will definitely come back to Rialto for dinner which now holds a special place in our hearts. ❤“

The owner, Brenton, was so communicate, generously offered us a discount to help with the fundraising, and ensured we had such a great night. The event space upstairs is so beautiful and there’s a sound system for a DJ. We didn’t have any food but the cocktails were unreal! Thank you again Brenton!!!“

“Be sure to check out karaoke on Mondays. The karaoke system they use is Karafun. It has a wide selection of songs. The karaoke mics are a little faulty, meaning they will go in and out during your songs.
All the Bartenders are no-nonsense, so it does feel pretty strict, but I'd rather that bartenders who chat too much with their friends and always take smoke breaks...

“My friends and I had a lovely afternoon at The Rockaway Hotel Pool house. We were greeted by a warm and friendly hostess, Isabella, who made us feel so welcomed. “A friend recommended this place so, today, we decided to give it a try. We arrived there right after they open and the place was empty- as expected. We sat in the patio. The space is clean, small but cozy and well decorated. Nice atmosphere; however, I couldn't help but wonder where was the emergency exit because I felt a bit confined with tables, chairs, restaurant equipment, kitchen and restrooms within inches- not even feet- of each other. But anyway, the servers were friendly and didn't rush us to order. I liked that. We ordered an espresso martini, a passion fruit margarita and a lemonade. We also had the chicken empanadas, the bbq wings and the shrimp taco. Everything was good and presented in good timing. We liked that the background music is diverse and the volume right on point.
I'm giving 4 stars because I found it a little pricey. The Golden Hour prices are just a couple of dollars less than the regular prices and, one more thing, the place is not handicap accessible and older folks may have to be careful with the steps at the entrance and the limited space inside.“
