“Let me tell you….i am very very picky about my curry chicken roti and Island Spice Flava restaurant has the most delicious flavorful roti. They also don’t skimp and use potatoes as filler….there is literally chicken in every bite! I’ve been here like 5 or 6 times and it has been consistent and delicious. Also the staff is so friendly and love the no nonsense atmosphere. Always a stop for me when I’m visiting Toronto.“

“It's a coffee stand just 20 feet north of Queen Street. I tried the pulled pork empanada with a dark roast coffee.

The pastry was a crispy golden brown with a flavourful pulled pork filling. It was served with a pesto sauce. This Trinidadian empanada was the best I've ever tried! I will be returning to try out some other snacks. What a find!“

“Rhum Corner NEVER misses!!! I came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary, and as always, everything was perfect. We ordered the oxtail with rice and beans and the fried chicken with macaroni. Honestly, I can’t come to Rhum Corner without ordering the oxtail. It’s always so tender and so flavorful. I swear I could eat it every single day and never get tired of it. The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and juicy, and the macaroni is just perfect.

And I have to mention the pikliz, I swear they need to start selling it on its own because I could eat it by the jar by itself. The perfect mix of heat, crunch, and tang I just love it so much lol

I also ordered the Painkiller, which was soo good. Sweet, creamy, and dangerously easy to drink.

The food, the drinks, the atmosphere, the service … everything about this place is just incredible. You can taste the care and love that goes into everything they make. Rhum Corner is one of those restaurants that just gets it right every single time and that’s why I’ll keep coming back 😌“

“Amazing! My first time here. I loved the elevated Jamaican dishes because it still had that home taste but the preparation and presentation was on a next level. I love that there is a high end caribbean Jamaican place for everybody but also a safe place for we to 5 star dine without being treated badly or stared at( which happens in fancy places if you caribbean) i don't usually like fish but tried my friends snapper. The nuff nuff coleslaw was my fave and the likkle patties“

“Nice ambiance, great food (salty for me). Service seems to be improved. The bathroom sink was blocked when I got I the restaurant. We ordered the appetizer, then nothing until everyone else in the restaurant got their food including those who came later than us. Called the waitress, the manager seemed to try to explain, but we all knew what happened. We don't need an explanation, we need an apology.“

The food was delicious and I got a beautiful note with it so whoever who wrote that I really appreciate everything I was so hungry and I devoured that food. “Doubles are amazing. Toronto doesn't know how good it has it. I got two, one plain and to the other I added pumpkin for $2. Massive, amazing value, STUFFED with tender channa, just incredible. All for $10. We have nothing remotely like Ali's in Calgary. This is why I love visiting Toronto.“

Happy I went ,it was my First time here and when I walk in I knew the food would be good from the smell and looks, the place was in a corner of a gas station but don't get scared by this ,it was a great conversation piece (lol).
What was even more pleasing was I felt welcome by Kathy & Cedric such wonderful people had a great conversation with them makes ,feels like family time (lol) .this makes you want to return and keep supporting small businesses for sure. I definitely enjoyed my Veg. Roti and my husband loved his curry goat roti.
Can't wait to come back and try some more amazing food from *KC*.

I enjoyed the steamed vegetables (different from the typical coleslaw), rice and peas and the tasty, lean jerk pork. I washed it down with my favourite @dandgjamaica pineapple soft drink! “Another hole in the wall hidden gem that makes Torontos low key food scene so great. The food is made with love and is actually a unique take on Jamaican food but in a good way. It stands out from other places that can be a little cookie cutter if you know what I mean. The patties are also on another level. Not sure we’re they’re getting them but they are amazing. “I finally was able to attend UMI's Kitchen after so many attempts by UBER and DoorDash as it always says unavailable. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. I thought it was located more east on Dundas but it's actually near Dundas and Sherbourne. Toronto has tried to revive the neighborhood but, it has the same energy. I was lucky as parking is street parking so expect to park and run in to get your order. It looked closed when I got out and the door is not new but, I got in. It isn't a big place but the lady who got my order was pleasant. I ordered a small Oxtail (not cheap no more), side bbq chicken, 1 veggie and 1 beef patty, small chicken soup (good), Pineapple soda. I thought the salad would be handled but no salad like no coleslaw! I was like wow. The food is good. I really enjoyed the veggie patty wish I had gotten three of them. The bbq chicken was nice. Not hot but, it was a great add to my Oxtail meal. I was glad I finally could say I gave this place a try. I am sure others will attend. The area isn't the most desired place to attend but, it's about the food which for this day was my goal.“

The small size was $7, large was $10.
And the big bearded Rasta man was super friendly and would jam in as much meat as he possibly could into the containers. To the point of not even properly closing. Hehehe
This place was INCREDIBLE, and felt welcoming and appreciative of my patronage.

Time and economics has not been kind. The Big Rasta gentleman passed away, and over the years things have changed. The welcoming ambiance slowly shifted to one of feeling like I'm putting upon the staff by being there. I once tried to order delivery during COVID lock down and the portions received barely covered bottom of the container. And just this night, I visited for the first time in months, and prices are officially $10 for small and $20 for large containers filled to the bottom lip and not a single cm over.

I know we're all in a crunch, and this IS a business. But honestly, I don't feel like it's value for my time to drive there and back, or the price asked for the portion provided.
Not even mentioning the annoyed looks from the staff for simply deigning to order food at their restaurant

“Delicious vegan Caribbean food in the heart of Kensington Market. Veggie D'light hits the spot for lunch on a weekend. I had their meal with jerk saitan, veggies and basmati/quinoa. I asked about the soup of the day and was promptly offered a taste by the friendly chef. Had the medium soup as well--a delicious rich soup with yams and coconut milk. Now I have a new favorite lunch spot.“
