“Amazing mixed paella (ordered ahead). As good or better as what I've had in Spain with fresh mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari, (proper) Spanish chorizo and chicken. very authentic (my 6 year old loved it also). They also recommended a nice dry white wine to go with it. Picked up some imported chorizo and manchego for later 🤤.“

“A cool little bar serving interesting small plates. Basically a tapas bar but they don't exactly market themselves that way.

The small plates were all very reasonably priced and it was fun going with friends and sharing a bunch of interesting bites of food.

The service was 10/10. Very attentive, very friendly, very funny.

This spot feels so easy to drop by just for a quick drink and a bite but also as a spot to stay for a while and get drinks while slowly ordering snacks. I will definitely come back soon.“

“Happy hour menus have been making a comeback with the weakening economy. Planta’s menu is one of the most extensive and offers great value to boot. While beer and wine ring in at $6 and $9, respectively, it’s the $10 cocktails that wet my whistle. You can’t go wrong with the lych please, a gin cocktail lightly sweetened with lychee, lemon, and pineapple with a hibiscus sugar rim that delights.

Planta also provides a huge food offering that doesn’t skimp on portions. With the lettuce wraps ($12) being half off their regular menu price ($23), I expected a shrunken helping the equivalent to two or three wraps. So, when the full plate arrived with enough of the gochujang covered crispy fried tofu and roasted Brussels sprouts to make seven wraps we were flabbergasted. Oh no, we ordered way too much food!

The menu offers no description with the chick’n fried mushrooms ($7) but they turn out to be lightly battered oyster mushrooms that’s dusted with salt and pepper served with a thinned sweet chili sauce. They’re dangerously addictive and so tasty that I could swap these for a chicken nugget any day.

In a similar vein, the crust of the cauliflower wings ($8) was so crispy despite not being overly battered. Drizzles of unagi sauce and sweet chili mayo covered the vegetables giving each bite a burst of flavour.

For a lighter nibble, the summer rolls ($6) are an option. It’s just filled with a lot of carrot and rice noodles and needed more of the other ingredients (papaya, tofu, and herbs) to stand out.

The crispy rice ($9) would work better left intact, so the starch doesn’t become cold and dry. At least they put plenty of the spicy ahi watermelon and guacamole on top to balance out the tasteless rice ball.

I preferred the spicy crab hand roll ($5 each), which was stuffed to the gills with shredded hearts of palm tossed with ponzu and spicy mayo. It’s more of a taco than handroll so it isn’t the easiest to eat but does mean there’s little rice and tons of filling.

The sole dish that threw us both off was the spinach and artichoke dip ($11). How can you mess up a creamy dip? By adding so much coconut oil into the recipe that coconut was all we could taste. It felt like I was eating a savoury coconut cream pie with chunks of vegetables. Its only saving grace was they don’t skimp on the tortilla chips… too bad we didn’t need more than a few each.“

“Went on a Friday night without a reservation. Put my name on a list and got a table for two after about 45 minutes (consistent with what the host said).

Service was great. Didn’t catch the name of our server but he was helpful during ordering, friendly, and the right level of attentive.

We got 4 dishes, and overall the food was excellent and very reasonably priced given the portion sizes.

Giant meatball (5/5) - amazing, sauce was spot on, very generous portion
Pearled couscous (3.5/5) - a bit underdone and one of the mussels tasted off, otherwise flavor was great
Ossobuco: (4.5/5) - creamy and decadent, would order again
Beet salad (4/5): Not a big beet fan but this was still good, would have liked a bit more goat cheese

Atmosphere was nice and lively. Music and general volume was a touch loud, but not impossible to hold a conversation. This would be a fun place to share a meal with a group of 4-6.“

“Over the years I have been to some pretty shady places that had questionable customer service..: but that was kind of to be expected considering the typical clientele at said spots. I arrived here at 5:50pm.., a single person looking to experience a new to me restaurant. Introducing the pickle barrel.. price point was crazy good. Reservations easy to make. One person for 5:45 pm. Took a minute to find the space, once in waitress was attentive, I ordered an appy and a half priced bottle of wine. Keep in mind it was just me and when I arrived there was no one here in a HUGE space. I also ordered the holiday 3 course dinner... an appy of butternut squash soup, a main of apple chicken and for desert apple blossom. Again, it's just ME!!! They bring out the calamari AND the soup...no big deal. Calamari sucked ballz, timid temp and rubbery as hell..:whatever, calamari is an art that not everyone can master. They also brought the soup at the same time. No big deal, it's just me, no one else here so I have time right?! 🤷🏽‍♀️ Nope, half way through the Calamari they bring my Main... ask them to keep it under the lamp, no problem... 5 minutes later the main arrives... still not done the calamari.... Or the soup Finish the appies and ask them for a container so I can re heat my food when I get home since it's cold/ Great, no prob Keep in mind I got here at 5:50pm it is now 7:51 No desert and no waitress to even ask for it During this terrible dinner service a table of 6 arrived and a table of 3. I know full well a table of 6 scores more dollars than a table for 1 but now I will never come back... so was it worth it? Not for me 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ A complete waste of time! Note: I ended up having to go speak to the hostess to let her know my concerns, get my desert and my bill. It was at this point that the original waitress asked me if I needed anything... I told her someone else was getting my bill. *hostess offered a discount ,wasn't necessary but appreciated.“

Baked Eggplant with Yuzu Miso Glaze

“Excellent dinner. If oyster hand rolls were the only food on earth I’d be totally fine with it. Delicious.“

“Not a bad note at any time. Monica is a very good server who is knowledgeable, engaging but not smothering. There when needed. The food is inventive and so tasty. Small bites. Two of us ordered five dishes and loved them all. The sommelier, Tessa, makes an amazing Arancello (better than Limoncello)! Her wine list is interesting and extensive, covering most types and regions, but we would have liked more bottles from Ontario, although the ones provided are all really good. We shall be back.“

“We had never been before and chose the restaurant because we were seeing a play at the Canadian Stage on Berkeley street. The food was amazing. We had the Lebanese taco (falafel), Reyna salad, lamb baklava and cauliflower croquet … wow was delicious. Saffron baklava for dessert. Small plates so you can try a few things to share even with two people. A must try, we will be back“

“I recently visited Clockwork for a beautiful tea for a close friend's big birthday celebration. There was a great selection of teas and delicious treats, including gluten-free and nut-free options for those with dietary restrictions. The atmosphere was perfect, and everyone had a wonderful time. Before the tea, I emailed Elise to make sure everything was perfect. She was very lovely and accommodating. The staff members Gemma and Leah were nice but also incredibly attentive, making our celebration even more special. The whole experience was great. I would highly recommend it!“

“Come here pretty often since almost 10 years ago, always a good choice for late night snack n drink.

They offer a huge menu from Japanese ramen, yakitori to western snacks like nachos, fries etc. Also a huge drink menu(mostly Asian liquor)but not an expensive one.

The vibe here is vivid but not too noisy, you don’t need to screaming to talk.

I’ll say it’s the place to enjoy drinking and having fun.“
