“I swung by Terry Black’s this morning to pick up a big order of barbecue to take to friends in California, because they need to know what the very best barbecue in Texas tastes like. ❤️⁣ ⁣ Chad, Sharon, and Kait were so helpful behind the counter, making sure everything was wrapped perfectly for a travel cooler and ready to survive a flight, complete with reheating instructions for when it arrived.⁣ ⁣ What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. They took the time to visit with me, answered all of my questions, and made the whole experience feel personal instead of rushed. We ended up having some great conversations, and they even let us sample a few things before we decided exactly what to order.⁣ ⁣ The food is phenomenal, but the people are what make you want to come back. Texas barbecue is about more than brisket, it’s about generosity and making people feel welcome, and this team absolutely nailed it. “Great food—especially the tacos and elote, which are my favorites. The only downside was the service. The person at the front seemed annoyed and disengaged, and it showed in the experience. He forgot to include a fork with my order. I left but stopped to check, and I know he watched me. Before I even mentioned anything, I went back and he just handed me a fork without saying a word or acknowledging me. It felt rushed and unwelcoming, like he didn’t want to interact at all. He was annoyed at being there and weirdly passive aggressive about it. I went on Saturday April 11 at 6pm.“

i've been coming to this place for about 20 years back when the whole chicken was $6. Over the years the price started getting higher and I decided to start going to a less expensive place pollo rico. I haven't been to el regio in a couple of years until pollo, rico told me it was gonna be 30 minutes before their chicken was ready. Unwillingly I drove to El regio & boy im glad I did. They must've got a new cook in the kitchen because this meal was the best i've ever had! the rice has a lot of flavor now, the beans are so smoky, that chicken was so moist and not dried out like it used to be.Oh, my god, it is worth the extra cost.I will never go back to pollo rico EVER again!“

“There’s so many pizza options in Austin, and a lot of them are delicious, though some are too pricey to visit regularly. Pinthouse is such a solid option that isn’t unreasonably priced. It’s consistently delicious & they often change up the menu with creative new options, which are always great.“

“This is not necessarily the best Sushi that you can get in Austin. When you're coming here, you're booking for the 45-minute omakase experience. Mind you it is definitely an experience and that does come with a price tag. The place is very cozy and you are sitting at a bar like structure with a sushi chef at the center and a drinks/sake guide.

We immediately went in and started to get our nigiri pieces of fish. Each time the chef put a new nigiri on our plate, he explained every single detail that went into making that particular piece of the nigiri. I would definitely say that the additions to the fish really was thought out on all of the flavors to compliment that particular fish.

This is definitely an experience because instead of just getting a piece of fish you're getting something very creative. In fact, I would say perhaps something you might not be able to get at other sushi places. We started out and the sushi was pretty good, but as we continued through the courses each piece got better and better. The A5 wagyu Sushi piece was mind-blowing and also the uni was so buttery and did not taste bitter which I give all of the compliments to the sushi chef. As the sauce and pairing of what was in the sushi must have really brought out the flavor.

My favorite pieces were the A5 Wagyu, the Ebi, toro, and Uni.

I got the sake flight and it was a very good pairing with all of the different sushi pieces. I do wish that I had maybe three to four more pieces of sushi, but maybe that is just wishful thinking because everything was so good. If you haven't been to Omakase in Austin, I would definitely give this a try.

I did happen to go the place next door that served hand rolls and got a spicy tuna and salmon. I'm definitely going to try to hit this place up for lunch one day and gorge myself in hand rolls. You can definitely tell that the fish was fresh.“
