“Ate lunch today at Barbs BQ. We drove in from Port Neches to enjoy this amazing food. The brisket was melt in your mouth, the pork ribs were some of the best I’ve had, the moist smoked turkey was Devine and the jalapeño cheese fajita sausage was the best I’ve tasted. If you’re within an hour of Lockhart, make the trip. Your tastebuds will thank you!”

“I swung by Terry Black’s this morning to pick up a big order of barbecue to take to friends in California, because they need to know what the very best barbecue in Texas tastes like. ❤️⁣ ⁣ Chad, Sharon, and Kait were so helpful behind the counter, making sure everything was wrapped perfectly for a travel cooler and ready to survive a flight, complete with reheating instructions for when it arrived.⁣ ⁣ What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. They took the time to visit with me, answered all of my questions, and made the whole experience feel personal instead of rushed. We ended up having some great conversations, and they even let us sample a few things before we decided exactly what to order.⁣ ⁣ The food is phenomenal, but the people are what make you want to come back. Texas barbecue is about more than brisket, it’s about generosity and making people feel welcome, and this team absolutely nailed it. Can’t wait to share a little taste of Texas with my California friends.”

“This is a classic old school beer bar. Clean restrooms (yes, that is first), comfortable atmosphere, AMI jukebox, pool tables and you can smoke out of the elements. One of the few bars left like that. Great place! Great location! Great people! BUBBA'S IN LOCKHART is GREAT!”

“What a cool place! Not only is their coffee and pastries delicious, but their prepared items are great too. Their pimento cheese was yummy. The Baristas sure know how to make a great Latte. They also have some neat items for sale. I purchased some coffee mugs I haven’t seen anywhere else and I love them. You can pot plants there too! I highly recommend Thorn & Bred while you’re in Lockhart.”

“Although the food was very good, their customer service was TERRIBLE! The woman behind the meat counter was the rudest person I’ve ever encountered in a food establishment. In Lockhart, Tx , there are at least 10 other bbq restaurants, so, people definitely have choices! We were visiting Lockhart and chose Krews from another recommendation. We ordered approximately $50 in meats and she threw 4 slices of bread up on our meat order. One of the pieces was the “heel”. She knew we wanted to make a couple of sandwiches and when I asked her for another piece of bread, instead of the “heel” , she proceeded to tell me that there was nothing wrong with it. She argued with me about that piece of bread until she finally threw it in the trash and threw several other pieces up on our meats. Based on our experience, we wouldn’t return.”

“These desserts are simply marvelous! I dare say they are even better than full sugar cookies! I've had the chocolate chip cookies and the peanut butter cookies, it's impossible to choose a favorite! “Took my visiting sister and her husband to Smitty’s , the walls are black with smoke, fires were ablaze , air was heavy with the smell of cooking meat and what looked like post oak . We had ribs , sausages and brisket that was cooked to perfection . I couldn’t have made a better impression of true Texas BBQ !”

“This is one of those off the wall places that you have to stumble upon. It’s not in a commercial zoning area and near nothing you might visit regularly. So you will have to seek it out or have someone take you. Really friendly folks, good food and a nice outdoor atmosphere. Your food is cooked over a wood fire & prepared while you wait. It’s served hot & ready. I’m looking forward to my next visit.”

“AMAZING! We’ve been driving past this spot on 183 for weeks now commuting to and from Austin to Victoria and today we decided we just HAD to try it — what a great idea. We picked up a dozen hot spicy pork tamales and a dozen frozen pork tamales, can’t wait to devour them all. Will be returning, no doubt, with a cooler to stock up and take them home dozens at a time!”

“Been living in Lockhart since 2022 and finally made our way here. Food was tasty and delicious. Smaller sized restaurant that has maybe 15 tables and booths. Cozy feel to it.

I had the fish tacos which were amaIng. Wife wanted crawfish, but she opted for something else as the crawfish was $13.50 per pound. A bit steep for crawfish when other places are in the single digits. Son had the garlic Parmesan bone-in wings which he loved.”

The lunch portions are huge—the enchiladas are easily double the size of most Tex-Mex spots. The charro beans could definitely use a little more seasoning and love, but overall a great stop.”
