“I was passing through one snowy night and it was the only place open around. Thankfully they were still open so I was able to eat a good hot meal. The service was fantastic and my food came out really quick.
I ordered the la crema chicken and it was delicious. I usually get ACP but I wanted to switch it up a bit. I wasn’t a big fan of the mixed veggies they lacked seasoning. I also got the tacos with chicken/steak and grilled onions and it was on point.“

“This is one of the best spots in the park for a vegan to come by for food. If you’re doing the meal plan, they have so many options that you’ll need to either drop by twice or choose to omit some stuff. (The meal plan option for vegans is 3 selections plus a bonus frybread)

For my first meal, I grabbed the roasted potatoes, roasted vegetables, mango salad, and the free piece of fried bread.

The bread is quite donutty! Delicious! The potatoes are straightforward.

The roasted veggies were nicely done, pleasant roasted onion flavor on it all.

the mango tomato salad was tasty. Peppery and mildly vinegary. The red onions are raw, as a heads up just in case. The cilantro is easily picked out and I didn’t taste the soap, so the soaking in the vinegar may have mellowed it.

They don’t have a 6th item, and watermelon doesn’t count, so for my 2nd meal to sample the items I didn’t get the first round, I just grabbed another serving of the roasted veggies.

The kale slaw is nice and tangy, not too crispy, but not soggy. The ramen gives it a subtle occasional chewiness.

The Bahamian rice isn’t really anything special, and the ingredients aren’t super healthy anyway. (And you can get rice at other locations in the park, so if you wanted to pare down the menu, this is the top item I would pass on.)

The second item I think I would pass on is the potatoes. Especially with the fried bread on the side. It’s the least interesting item compared to the other options.

So if you’re getting only one meal from here, I’d get the roasted veggies, kale slaw and mango salad with the fried bread. But when I visited last time, not everything was ready at park open. So if you’re maximizing the timing of your meals, I’d pop in real quick to the grains place near the entrance for first meal and then go to outpost for the second meal. By then everything should be ready.

I suspect like other locations within the park, that vegan items may sell out early without the intention to prepare more for the day. So definitely optimize the “once every 90 minutes” thing for your first few meals so you don’t miss out on the only items we can eat. (Also pay attention to the hours of each eatery. I missed out on trying outpost during my first visit because they closed early)

“Excellent I’m a known chef visiting VCU in Richmond, Virginia and saw there were great Chinese places. Since 1981 I’ve loved however not found many legit shredded pork in garlic sauce dishes. They nailed it, this classic Sichuan dish . When she placed on the table I had flash backs to Houston Texas the last time I actually ordered the dish as every place did it no justice. If you’ve never tried its spicy, salty, little acidic. Steamed rice has to be and was perfect. I started with a great hot and sour soup and then the green onion pancake. The pancake golden brown, crispy, cooked perfect. The soup a great blend had me sweating. Only negative is I’m from Georgia.“

“My husband and I frequent this location as we only live about 25 minutes away. While the menu is smaller than the original location in farmville, we have not had anything bad from this location. The service is always fast and we hardly ever have to ask for anything as our servers will check on us frequently. We have gone at all times of the day and all different days and don’t have any complaints! We even take our infant daughter with us, who just sleeps while we eat. If a manger is there while we are, they almost always stop by our table for a chat. We have never had any issues with food not being hot or missing anything or not being cook just right. There are one or two servers that aren’t super friendly and we prefer not to have them but I feel like that’s probably how it is at most restaurants. We enjoy the atmosphere and the food! Would recommend this location to any and everybody looking for a new food spot!“

“My husband and I were stationed in Italy for 4 years. While there we learned that American interpretation of Italian food is way off. After we left Italy in 1995, we only found three places that serve meals that reminded us of the food we had in Italy. One in St. Louis, one in Swaffham, Norfolk in the UK, and one right here in Mechanicsville, VA. , and not a one is Olive Garden (which has nothing remotely similar to true Italian food). Angel is a master chef, he and his wife Carla prepare and serve meals that are made fresh daily and remind us of the meals we had in Italy. We have been going here for eight years and have enjoyed every meal. Yes we tried a couple other places in the Richmond area, however they do not even come close to the quality of fresh, and perfectly flavored meals. We decided no where else is as good. Pasta House is a hidden gem and a well kept secret.“
