“Sub Rosa is THE bakery in Richmond! I live about 2 hours away and always make sure I stop by when I’m passing by. It’s about half a mile off the highway, so it’s easy. There’s no parking lot, so finding parking can be an issue, but don’t let that discourage you!

The bread and baked goods are as close to being in Europe as I’ve found (I lived abroad for 8 years). Crusts are light, flaky and leave a little butter on your lips. Everything is fresh and full of flavor. Staff is always friendly and welcoming.

They serve and sell both Recluse and Afterglow coffee - both are excellent local beans.

“This place has a great atmosphere and the staff is wonderful. We were just driving through Richmond and decided to stop here for a bite. My husband had the brisket sandwich which he said was fantastic. I had the trainwrek that was so large and outstanding I couldn’t finish it and have leftovers. The food is fresh and has exquisite flavor! If I’m ever in Richmond again I will be returning.“

“Run, don't walk to Con Salsa! Seriously great food. Each order made fresh. The bowls are phenomenal and the arepas and empanadas are the best we've ever had. And the sauces...OMG the sauces. The garlic and the red sauce are honestly some of the best condiments I've tasted. Thankfully, they sell the sauces too! I do wish there was indoor seating as it is getting colder, but they were doing a brisk takeout business when we were there. Do yourself a favor and try Con Salsa. Everything we have tried is amazing.“

Lamb ragu, mussels, all were great. But the stand out was the duck. I’m not a fan of duck, but theirs is divine. I would go back there only for the duck even. Great meal.“

“My husband and I were looking for a new place for breakfast last weekend and stumbled upon The Grill. We went on a Sunday after church and they were busy but our wait was short and staff was friendly. I ordered one of the breakfast specials, the Cinnamon sugar French toast, and it was honestly the best French toast I have ever had. I can’t even find words to describe how amazing this French toast tasted.. the cinnamon sugar made the crust a little crisp and it was truly to die for.. so good I’m still thinking about it over a week later 😂 Also the potatoes were crisp on the outside and so fluffy and delicious on the inside. This was the first time in years neither of us needed a to-go box because the food was so good we couldn’t stop eating it!! I don’t leave reviews as often as I should but our experience here was so good and we enjoyed the atmosphere so much we can’t wait to come back in with the whole family! It’s a smaller café, so when it’s cold there can be a short wait and limited indoor seating (no reservations), but it totally makes sense for the size. When the weather’s warm, they have a large patio. They’re open 9–2, and the staff was so warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The décor is super unique with a total RVA vibe. The food was unreal. I had the Glitter on a Mattress (Texas toast with bacon & sausage gravy, a side of bacon, and edible glitter ✨) and it was SO good — and huge. We also tried the French toast with flavored fruit cream and a breakfast sandwich, and everything was amazing. Parking is limited in the front, but there’s plenty around the back and an easy walk-up through a covered patio area. Great food, great service, fun atmosphere. “This place is one you have to order out, but when I tell you the pizza is delicious, I mean it. To me, it is honestly one of the best (if not THE best) pizzeria in Richmond. The ingredients are fresh and the red sauce is perfection.

My only critique would be for a crispier crust, but that's just me. I have ordered their Greek pizza and have had both my aunt and grandmother try it and both agreed it was one of the best slices they've had since moving down here from NY (hence why I like a crispier crust, lol).
