“Captain Chuck-A-Muck’s was absolutely worth the drive! The waterfront atmosphere was relaxing, and the seafood was fresh and flavorful. We ordered the crab dip, steamed mussels, cream of crab soup, crab cake, sweet potato fries, hush puppies, and shrimp everything was delicious.

The crab cake was packed with crab meat and had great flavor, the cream of crab soup was rich and creamy, and the mussels were cooked perfectly in a buttery garlic broth. The sweet potato fries were seasoned just right, and the succotash paired well with the seafood.

The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Between the great food, excellent service, and beautiful waterfront setting, it’s easy to see why this place is so popular.

We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re craving fresh seafood! Highly recommend.“

“Spectacular in every way. Chad, Kip, and their entire staff go out of their way to ensure you have the best experience. I met them for the first time catering a wedding (I am also a vendor). Their catered food was out of this world. So good that I had to make the drive to Newport News to eat in the restaurant. To say they delivered would be an understatement. James at the bar makes the most delicious, creative, elaborate cocktails. The Blood Oath was my favorite! Their fried oysters were our favorite dish— crispy and a little spicy! The duck was so unique, sweet and savory, and cooked excellently. My husband is now obsessed with their banana foster cheesecake. Everything we had was truly perfect and we are so impressed. We will be loyal fans of Circa 1918 for life!“

Even if I don't call ahead of time the food is made quickly and tastes fine. $10 for a bacon cheeseburger with a decent amount of fries and a canned drink is honestly the best deal you'll get around here as a shipyard worker, at least in my opinion. They aren't rude, as some other reviews have said, they're just blunt. And I respect that. All in all 4/5 stars and I'll continue to eat here.“

“I’m from up north and had only been to a Waffle House while driving down to FL (typical NJ family tradition lol). Now that I live so close to one, I love being able to truly enjoy the atmosphere. The waitresses are always a delight and will keep you smiling. I stop by every so often during walks with my son. He has slept in here and also been in the restaurant smiling the whole time too. I love it.
Recently I got a burger with waffles on the side and when I came home, I used the waffles as a bun for the burger and omg… totally worth it. I’ll have to get a picture next time!“

“If you have not been to the Smithfield Inn in the past 6 months, I highly recommend going. Chef Gary highlights local favorites and pays attention to details with the entire meal. “We made plans for our anniversary to stay at the Smithfield Inn and Restaurant. The new owner was very friendly and could not do enough to made our anniversary a happy occasion. The meal was excellent and our room was very cozy with fireplace and seating area separate from the bedroom. It was very clean and quiet. Then to top it off we were given breakfast coupons for the near by Gourmet Bakery. The bakery was also excellent. We would stay there again and longer to enjoy the cute small downtown shops.
