“Chef Tan Chinese Restaurant is situated at Danor Plaza, near Maple Avenue in Vienna, VA, serving authentic and flavorful Hunan cuisine with well-balanced flavors. Its exterior is modest, but the interior offers a spacious, modern ambiance with friendly service. The restaurant boasts a diverse menu and generous portions. I appreciate discovering a Chinese eatery that serves traditional dishes, avoiding westernized or Americanized variants that tend to be overly sweet.

Some dishes we loved and highly recommend:
1. Steamed pork dumplings, truly homemade with authentic flavor.
2. Pressure-cooked pork belly: tender, juicy, and mildly spicy.
3. Iron plate Mongolian beef: similar to Korean bulgogi but less sweet and saucy—very good!
4. General Tso’s chicken: a classic dish with chicken balls in a subtly sweet and mildly spicy sauce.
5. Pumpkin seafood tofu soup: sizable enough to share, with balanced flavors from pumpkin and seafood that weren’t overpowering
6. Fried rice: among the best in Northern Virginia, with a deep, savory flavor from stir-fried onions.“

“This place is subpar. Food was average, not worth the price. However, I will absolutely be coming back due to the service. Andrew did everything in his power to accommodate my family. I don’t think I’ve seen a server as personable, competent, and willing to fulfill our wants and needs. He seems to go out of his way in order to make us feel welcome, and that no task is too small. He even made our kids happy! Any request they had, he was on top of. Very attentive, respectful, and polite! Maybe this guy should be a manager….? He checked on us more than the actual managers did, even though he was clearly busy; I don’t think I saw a manager my entire time. I would have loved to praise him to a higher up. KEEP THIS GUY! I love the new lamps on the table, it gives a little more light, and makes me feel like I’m not in a dungeon. Host seemed very disinterested in helping, and very monotoned. Not necessarily how I want to feel when I walk in. Didn’t really feel welcome until our server came along.“

“First time trying them, got orange chicken lunch special and a BBQ spareribs appetizer. Oh man, was it fantastic and hit the spot. The spareribs were delicious, the orange chicken was still hot when I got back to my work, everything tasted great, good portions, good price, I will definitely be back for more!!

“I love Yu Noodles. Their noodle bowls are so good — simple, flavorful, and the portions are huge. Last time I got the seafood noodle bowl and it totally hit the spot. Everything tasted fresh and comforting.

It’s a clean, casual place — not fancy or romantic, but definitely the kind of spot you go to when you just want a really good meal without paying too much. The staff are super friendly, and the service is always quick.

The menu can be a little confusing at first, but they have some pictures to help, and honestly, everything I’ve tried has been delicious. It’s just one of those reliable, yummy places you keep coming back to. I usually end up going there when I get a massage at the place next-door (Relax rite), I just make an authentic Chinese evening out of the whole experience.“

“I'm from NYC, grew up on Chinese food, and very critical of restaurants in general. The Asian Cafe Chantilly is an outstandingly excellent restaurant. The quality of the food is uniformly the very best I've had, and the service is highly responsive, flexible, and professional. I very strongly recommend the Asian Cafe Chantilly. It's actually worth a long drive if you live far away, that's how great this place is.“

The outstanding customer service I received at Golden Restaurant truly deserves to be highlighted. On an especially hot day, I walked in and was immediately offered a cold bottled water—completely free of charge. It was such a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the rest of my visit.

When I called ahead to place an order for shrimp fried rice with customization (no msg, light on the soy sauce, very little oil), they listened intently and even repeated my requests so I can verify. Lo and behold, they delivered exactly what I asked for—the dish was cooked perfectly to my liking!

It’s rare these days, especially at a mostly pick-up-style restaurant, to find staff who are not only helpful but genuinely considerate and accommodating. The quality of service here goes far beyond expectations. I’ll definitely be returning—and recommending them to friends and family. Service like this deserves to be recognized!“

“Would love to give 10 stars for service! We ordered for wife who’s pregnant shortly before closing and we were running late to pick it up. One of the staff members stayed 20 minutes past closing to make sure we got our food. “Have to use a GPS to find it. It is carryout only. Wait time was a bit but the food comes out piping hot and fresh. Was so good I didn't wait to get home to eat, but instead sat in the parking lot blowing on it and trying not to burn my tongue. Got general tso chicken, beef lo mein and a small wonton soup for $25. Huge portions. And the meat was huge chunks. Enough food for 4 people. Was disappointed I didn't get an eggroll as I assumed it came with the order. “Top China is not my normal Chinese place - I have been a Sampan faithful since before Top China opened. However Sampan is closed on Mondays (currently) and I was at Pitkins so I stopped in and ordered the General Tso Chicken lunch special takeout (currently $10.75 with tax). “They only do curbside pickup, so no getting out of your vehicle. We got lemongrass chicken skewers, pork lo mein, wonton soup and hot and sour soup. Food was hot, and very flavorful! Lemongrass was so bright, and a welcome upgrade to the standard skewer. The noodle texture was perfect! Hot and sour soup seemed as if it was missing vinegar. It had a tolerable, extra hot kick, and I would have really enjoyed it if it had the sour component. Wonton soup had a deep golden/brownish broth. I didn't have any. I think it exceeded expectation! After reading reviews, and thinking my guys would be very happy, I am thankful it was as delicious as I hoped if not more.“

“I'm not really sure why so many people rated this place a 1. This is one of the best carryout Chinese places I've ever tried and it's now a staple among my friends. From the shrimp toast, to the fried rice and lo mein, to the main courses, everything we've tried has been very good. For a quick carry-out Chinese meal, you can't do much better than this place.“

“This place is incredible. I am not aware of any other luosifen noodle house in the area. If you, like me, are a newcomer to this style of noodle soup, you are going to be extremely impressed. The bone broth is bracing, complex, and flavorful, far richer and deeper than pho or tonkotsu. Recommend getting it spicy: it brings all the flavors together without being overwhelming. Additionally, the Sichuan menu is one of the best in the area, second only to Mama Chang's and Hong Kong Palace. This place is pretty new and trying to get its feet underneath it. “The staff are all very friendly, and it’s clear they try to keep the restaurant as clean as possible. That said, because it’s an older establishment, it can be hard for it to look perfectly spotless no matter how much effort they put in.

If you visit, I highly recommend trying the crispy spicy fish, mung bean noodle salad, ribs, hot and sour soup, and of course, their handmade dumplings. The flavor is truly excellent, and this spot is definitely worth checking out!“

“Our Monday night dinner group has come back here multiple times. The smell is wonderful immediately when you walk in. The host and all staff there are super friendly and always fun to chat with. Our waiter had our whole table laughing every time we engaged with him. Everyone's orders were perfectly cooked, nice sized portions and came out very quickly. I personally love the Malaysian Iced Coffee, Roti Canai and Chicken Satay. Our group had noodle dishes, beef, lamb, seafood....all was wonderful. Hunan Cafe in Burke is my go-to spot! The food is always fresh, portions are generous, and the flavors never disappoint. I’m a spice lover, and they always nail my extra, extra, extra spicy requests.

Service is fast, the staff is friendly, and the restaurant is clean and simple. Prices are super reasonable, and they don’t skimp on the protein.

The only downside? They’re closed on Mondays—but that just makes Tuesday taste even better. 😋“
