“I rarely go out to restaurants anymore, partly because of my gluten and dairy intolerance, and partly because I am tired of so many artificial ingredients or too much sugar in food. Tonight was my first visit and I was really blown away. I ordered a Bronzino dish on the specials menu and it was served on some kind of crispy rice. It was so delicious and clean and fresh. The skin was perfectly cooked so I ate it as well. The rice and the special sauce that was dabbled on the side was not too sweet. The Genmaicha (sp?) tea was perfect. And I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the price given restaurant prices these days for food of this quality. The atmosphere was lovely and the utensils were particularly impressive. Son loved the lobster mac & cheese, as well as the Matcha tea and white chocolate mousse. We’ll definitely be coming back!“

“Great little sushi spot with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The Red Devil and Volcano rolls were fantastic, full of flavor and beautifully made. Service was attentive, though the restaurant is quite small, so it can feel a bit crowded during peak hours. Still, a solid choice for quality Japanese food in the area!“

“Love this place immensely. Service was top notch and food is SO GOOD. I got the spicy salmon roll and the Ninja Turtle specialty roll and neither disappointed. Probably the best spicy salmon roll i’ve had, ever. Period hands down, no competition. Ambiance is great-standard sushi bar spot.
Will 1000% be back! I’m currently typing this as I finish my food. It’s that good—I couldn’t wait!“

“Booked here because of the Michelin star rating but will go back for the service. After a bit of bumpy start, the Manager was quite accommodating and what an excellence recovery. Enjoyed the premium omakase, sake and whiskey. Never felt rushed even though the restaurant filled quickly. We were visiting from Texas but will make this a regular stop next time in town.“

“Perfect Spot for Friends & Family!
Absolutely loved this place! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm, inviting, and super fun — perfect for both family gatherings and catching up with friends. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, walking us through the menu and making sure we had everything we needed.
The shabu shabu was top-notch — fresh ingredients, high-quality meats, and rich, flavorful broths. They had a great selection of veggies, sauces, and dipping options that let everyone at the table customize their meal just the way they liked it. We especially loved the wagyu and the spicy miso broth — so good!
The restaurant was clean, well-lit, and had a great energy without being too loud. Plenty of space for groups, and the table setup made it really easy to enjoy the cooking experience together.
We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a cozy, interactive dining experience that brings people together!“

“We went for the summer restaurant week. You get a cold and a hot appetizer, assortment of sushi and a dessert. We opted for the soft shell crab and shabu shabu ramen, both were delicious and served hot out of the kitchen. Sushi is top quality and decadent of course. Hojicha pudding is uniquely toasty and silky.
Not all RW deals are worth going, but I’d recommend the selection at sushi taro for the quality and the value of the food.“

“As always, fantastic sushi and other options. Very pricey for your typical sushi place but that's because this place is definitely not typical. Top notch options. The Butter Scallop on sushi is just OUTSTANDING. Staff is also super nice.“

“When I think omakase, I think sushi. Kappo was wagyu omakase, so I didn’t know what to expect exactly. The wagyu was beyond delicious like melt in your mouth delicious. I added the sake pairing and it did not disappoint! The space was intimate with about ten bar seats and three tables of 4. Chef Ogawa was there showing us the cut of wagyu. The course took around 2.5 hours.“

“We were pleased to find this restaurant: It is a bit out of our way, and due to road construction, we had to do some doubling back. I recall that the sashimi was fresh and the portions generous, but I was a bit disappointed in the flavor, perhaps because it was not served with a side of rice. I would return and try it again. Pictured are the sushi chefs, a wall inside, a sushi clock, and the outside of the restaurant.
Parking: There were several parking places in front and we had no trouble finding a spot.“

“Went for dinner at opening time and there was no wait and restaurant was basically empty which I like. Immediately greeted and sat and provided menus. The service was outstanding, maybe due to how busy the establishment was at the time, but nonetheless outstanding!! Our waitress was very kind, attentive, and pleasant. The food was all soooooo good. Started with the soft shell crab which when delivered to the table had a small flame in the middle;great presentation!!! The fish was very fresh , and you could see the chefs making all the sushi to order which is great. Toll sizes were normal size about 8 pieces and all were delivered at once which I like. The restaurant is a little smaller with about 15 ish tables so I'm sure it can fill up quickly when busy. Desert was also great ❤️. Loved the presentation again as the flatware was very cute as you can see in the photos. Best sushi I have had in Virginia so far ❤️❤️❤️. Prices were reasonable for the amount of shushi and sake that we ordered and would def go back. Must try
Parking: Underground parking garage that is used for the Harris teeter as well. Lots of parking which is great“

“Born and raised in Japan, I am pretty judgmental when it comes to any establishments claiming to be “Japanese.”
I had miso soup ($4), Toro Bowl ($28) and hot tea ($3).
Toro Bowl: I was not impressed, but definitely this dish was not disgusting like some other fake Japanese restaurants serve. Ikura wasn’t the freshest, and the three sheets of nori (sea weeds) were stale (thus making it chewy rather than crispy) and tasted very cheep. Overall it was “Okay”
Miso soup: I was pleasantly surprised with how they have used decent amount of dashi in their soup (like how they do it in Japan), giving it an authentic twist. The soup was flavorful and I enjoyed it.
Tea: this was another pleasant surprise to receive what it mocked as Genmai-cha (tea with roasted rice bits in it). Well done.
From what you get in DMV area, I’d give a 4 stars or even 4.5 stars. As an overall “Japanese” izakaya, I’d put this in 3 stars range.“

“Sushi Cho is a fantastic spot for sushi lovers, offering both freshness and creativity. The rolls are beautifully presented with vibrant toppings like tuna, salmon, mango, and even jalapeños, giving each bite a unique twist. The sashimi platter was also generous and incredibly fresh, with melt-in-your-mouth quality.
One thing to note is that the restaurant space is on the smaller side, so it can feel a bit tight when it’s busy. However, the cozy atmosphere adds to the charm, making it a nice spot for casual dining or a quick sushi fix.
Service was attentive and friendly, which made the experience pleasant overall. Despite the limited space, the quality of food and presentation makes Sushi Cho absolutely worth a visit.“

“A small sushi & Reman shop, clean and fresh, only one person cook and serve. I tried the poke with tuna, Not only I tasted the freshness and abundance nutrition to the body but also was touched by the sincerity and dedication to the food from the owner! He must made tremendous efforts to prepare such healthy food with fresh ingredients at very affordable price! In such a profit driven business environment, it is so precious to have such a germ shop to make you feel happy and surprise in life! Thanks for the great food! Appreciated and Strong recommendation!
One thing I’d like to point out is that the ordering machine does not provide picture nor the detail ingredients of the dishes (I understand that it is only one man in charge of everything it would be great to have the ingredients shows in the ordering menu) but you can easily refer to the menu from google map it provides clear information.“

“We got the pork (i think) cheesy katsu. It was absolutely delicious and well worth what we paid. The side bits were also delicious and really complement the katsu itself. Really nice guy (owner?) served us--I'd definitely come back again!
The only slight downside I had was not service or food related, but the lighting in this place was really...depressing?? It was a cold office overhead light feeling, I think they'd benefit from warmer bulbs.“

“New Sushi/Ramen restaurant that my wife and I have been to at least 5 times in the last 2 weeks. The food and service is incredible and the prices are very reasonable. We love the fried tuna, avocado, and cream cheese roll, shoyu ramen, and their bento boxes. Everything we try tastes so fresh and flavorful! Can’t wait to keep sampling more of their menu.“

“Delicious and great vibe. Did the fixed menu, which was the perfect choice. You get a little bit of everything and the flavors are exceptional. If I went again I would probably go a la carte just to try something different. Drinks were also really good! Quiet enough where you can have a great date night. Service was exceptional.“

“We tried a few different types of kamameshi, all of which were flavorful and came with four tasty side dishes that complemented the meal nicely.
The staff was warm and welcoming, adding to the overall experience. The dining area is cute but small, but we had no trouble getting seats around 6:30 on a Saturday. A solid spot for a casual Japanese meal.“

“It took me years to find a good ramen and sushi place, this place is the best! The owner is so sweet and welcoming, can’t find customer service like what she give anymore. “Second time here. First visit was hibachi for my son's birthday a couple of years ago, and this time we ate up front at the tables. Both times we enjoyed our meals, and everything seemed fresh. You can order off the hibachi menu when you sit up front, which was nice. The two sushi rolls we ordered were very good.“

“This was the 2nd time dining in at Ichiban. The food is fantastic and the service is amazing. Gary and Ling are the proud owners and ensure your experience is perfect. Ling makes the ramen broth from hand and Gary came and sat down with us to just chat. You don’t find this type of service and care these days. Ling gave us complimentary mochi and a box of macaroons. My parents had a family business in Nebraska and I know how much heart, work and money goes into making a business successful. I will definitely be back… next week! 😊“

“Temari Cafe has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for unwinding with a comforting meal. The ramen with rich, flavorful broth and tender noodles were amazing!! However, the sashimi was slightly disappointing, as it didn’t seem as fresh. Overall, it’s a great spot for ramen and takoyaki .“

“Hinata Sushi is my family’s go-to Japanese restaurant in Alexandria. The food is consistently really delicious, with good portions and fair prices. The lunch specials are a really great deal— highly recommend.
The menu has a broad range of Japanese appetizers and dinner options, and both the hot food and sushi are excellent. Sometimes at other restaurants, the hot food is better than the sushi or vice versa, and that is not the case at Hinata. The kitchen dishes and sushi are always delicious. I especially love how fresh the sushi dishes are.
The service is also gracious and attentive, and the restaurant environment is not loud and always clean.
Hinata is a neighborhood gem on every level!“

“An excellent sushi place off the Little River Turnpike, straddling the line between casual and elegant. Perhaps more old-school than modern, but that doesn't detract from the food and service.
Absolutely great place to sit down and chill, or to enjoy a great meal. Doesn't have to be sushi, they also have Thai.“

“Reservations only for dinner and walk in only for lunch, atmosphere was ok, since it’s shared space with a few other restaurants, the music and ambiance is hard to control. But the food is soooo good, you’ll forget all about it. Photos don’t do it justice, so I’ll just post 1. The whole omasake is very well crafted in terms of flavor profile and texture.“

“I’ve been ordering from Umi almost every week for the past 2 years, and each order has been consistently delicious. This is my go-to sushi takeout spot in DC given its quality, price, and large variety. Exceptional service when ordering - the staff takes the time to label each item in a group order by name and pairs items ordered by the same person together! I also love how you can make all the rolls with brown rice.“

“Perfect place for a great deal of healthy food with great taste and reasonable price! We had two bento boxes $21.25 and $21.75, respectively, the two most expensive ones on the list. Every table is provided with a small but free salad and an miso soup. Served quickly.“

“Great place for a casual dinner, the all you can eat option is awesome if you are hungry but don’t expect amazing quality from all you can eat. Good alternative option for people who don’t like sushi as well. I would say overall for the price you can get a better meal at a regular Asian cuisine restaurant.“
